How much time do you spend designing your characters?
A comment (I tend to hit randomize until I see something in the ballpark of what I'm looking for and then tweak the individual features from there until I have something I like. How many of you spend a lot of time customizing the looks of your characters? How many of you just hit randomize and jump on in and start killing things? Let us know.

I've never been a fan of randomly generating my looks. I usually start from the first option and scroll through everything once and then decide.

I pick every attribute. And, being Greek, I use funny Greek names for my characters (except for my paladin, who has a boring name, which is quite fitting, as the class is also boring):
Female Undead Mage: Koukla ("Doll")
Female Tauren Warrior: Brizola ("Steak")

I always go through and select each and every aspect of their visual appearance. For the name, I'll hit randomize till I find something I like, near I like, or try making my own.

I spend ages on it, but I have to say I've been spoilt by the character creator in City of Heroes; WoW seems painfully limited in comparison.

Ditto above comments. I spend a lot of time on character design. I have to look at my character in the middle of my screen for hours at a time. It has to look good and it has to resonate with me. This comes down, in some cases to my choice in weapons and armor, too. Grimloch just isn't a polearms kinda warrior. I thought Grimloch would be a smasher, but it turns out he's quite the ninja-esque bull.
I had a great name in DAoC (Kurgen), but spent no time really honing my character before activating him. As a result, I grew tired of playing the character and eventually dropped DAoC. Lesson Learned.

I spend the time to customize everything to my liking. This sometimes involves multiple times through to try different looks.

Why use randomize on a character you'll have to spend hours upon hours looking at. Better to make something that's visually pleasing to you. Plus, since WoW's character creation tool is somewhat limited it doesn't take long to make a suitable toon.
With my 8 characters I spent time on each part to make them look how I want, and then time picking out a good name that I felt fit the look and class/race of the character.
It's all part of being into the game and not just throwing something together.

Ditto @ Userless.
If you're going to be staring at your toon day in and day out, you should probably ensure you like the look.

I usually spend a while on creating a character. Even in WoW where your choices are fairly limited.
HOWEVER, when my wife (who was NOT a gamer before WoW) decided to activate a trial account and roll a character, I didn't know untill hours after she started playing. In my haste to roll a new night elf as well (and play with her to ensure she got addicted), I chose race, class, and name and created my character without thinking to even try to customize him!
By the time I realized I was sporting an ugly moustache and a beauty queen hairdo, I was to far along to simply re-roll.
That guy is currently my highest-level main, and his creepy mug is sort of growing on me after all these months of adventure.

I spend a lot of time on it. One of my favorite parts of WoW is designing a new character. I especially like creating their names, but I do wish they had more options for character appearance!

There is definitely a lack of options in the character creation screen. This surprises me, because it seems like that is more or less the point: to make a unique character that is all your own that you can hone to your liking and make a name for yourself in Azeroth.
While I admit I've never seen another gnome with ALL my attributes, I have seen some pretty close ones.
