Breakfast Topic: Flight Paths
Today's topic is flight paths! My group found itself needing to get to Desolace but none of us had the flight path there and so we asked around for a mage to portal us there instead. Is this a common occurance for players coming up through the ranks? One of my coworkers is in a large raiding guild and his alt is now level 40, so I asked if perhaps he could have someone in his guild help us out by giving us a portal to the new flight path.
Do you guys abuse guildmates in this way? Do you consider this cheating? I personally don't because I feel it is relying on the good nature of your guildmates to help yourself go further in the game.
A portal is also a much faster way to get from Theramore to Auberdine, a flight path so long I can watch an episode of Wonder Showzen and still make it back in time to land.

It's not cheating to have someone help you port. It's like asking a friend to drive you to Wendy's so you don't have to walk.

how would a mage be able you portal you to Desolace? Or were you refering to a warlock and a summon to desolace?
In any rate, I as a warlock have done that for my fellow guildies. Back in my high 30s, I rode from Arathi to Kargath with 2 others. Once at Kargath, I would then summon all the low lvl guildies over so that they could claim the flight path.

#2, Mages happen to have a neat little spell that opens a portal to any major city that any player in the group can use.

#3. Mages can only portal people to capital cities (Orgrimmar, UC, TB for Horde or Darn, IF, SW for Alliance). There is no portal to Desolace. However, Warlocks can summon any play to any spot given they have two other people at that location in their party to assist in the summoning. Make sense?

#3, Desolace's two outposts are not considered major cities, and can not be ported to by mages. The only Portals one can open are to SW, IF, and Darnassus (Alliance), or TB, UC, and Orgrimmar (Horde).

#3: You can only open portals to capital cities. Check the wowwiki page for the Portal spell: http://www.wowwiki.com/Portal_%28Spell%29

If you're going between Theramore and Auberdine, it's much faster to take the boats. Sail to Menethil, then switch to the other boat and go to your destination. You'll get there faster - and don't forget that you can craft (potions, tailor, bandages, leatherwork) on a boat, not to mention fish on the dock while waiting.

As a low level warlock I would often get barraged with tells asking me to summon some low level Night Elf from Darnassus and Auberdine to Ironforge and Stormwind.
Since I mostly solo'd through my mid 20's it was annoying since they'd ask repeatedly after I told them I couldn't. Then I discovered Ignore. Wonderful that.
Now that I don't frequent those areas except for the occasional AH run I never get such requests. Guess they don't want to come to Feralas or Tanaris.
Often I'll go to the entrance of some Instance and summon a guildmate there so he can begin. Gets me plenty of instnace farming runs that way.
