How to enjoy WoW the Something Awful way
Those sarcastic Something Awful folks have published a brilliant list of suggested ways to "properly enjoy World of Warcraft". Including such gems as "If they can't type out your name, they can't add you to their ignore list" and "Play as a girl. Do not ever, EVER, even hint that you are male unless you dislike getting free gold from desperate nerds", it's full of useful tips that it seems far too many WoW players abide by.The girl thing's a bit of a misleading point, though -- free gold seems pretty rare (a friend of a friend got some once), although suggestive /tells certainly aren't.

It's rather disturbing sometimes playing a hot redheaded priest, with all the attention she gets. The consequences hadn't occured to me when I made her.

I got 50 silver one time just for complimenting another players rabbit and asking where to get one...but I really am a girl - just wish I looked like my char - pointy ears and all.

My girlfriend, whose character is a female Night Elf, routinely has people going up to her and offering her goods and cash. She got 50 silver once, when she was only a level 4 or 5. Almost makes me want to roll a female alt...

I've never gotten any money or goods, even when people eventually find out I'm really a girl. But it might be because I'm an ugly undead and a squatty gnome instead of a hot human or NE.

Some of my characters are female, but I have yet to recieve free cash from anyone on any of my characters. (levels 15, 24, 26, 45) I've gotten a free item here and there, but always when grouped on quests and its always mana or health related, no different than my male characters.
