Resources for beginning hunters
Having recently rolled a hunter, I've been on the lookout for useful sites that will help me get to grips with the class. Here are a couple I found that may help other new hunters:- Petopia has an illustrated guide to all the different pets in WoW, including advice on the best pets for your level, information on skills and training, stable locations and a tamer's guide. Getting a Teldrassil owl is a great achievement for a low-level Horde player; it's on my to-do list.
- Good Intentions Guild has a comprehensive table of pet abilities, providing a "pet shopping list" if you want to learn new tricks for your pet.
- This Hunters FAQ answers the really basic questions, such as "when do I get a pet?" -- simple but useful if you don't have any hunters handy to pester.
- The official site is surprisingly loquacious on the subject, and the class forums are a treasure trove of information if you can separate the signal from the noise.
- The SmartPet (discontinued) and PetDefend addons are quite useful if you prefer the automated way of life.

I've been debating on what class I want to make next. I have a hunter that's level 17, but he's on a server I've abandoned long ago. Actually I have way too many characters... Maybe I'll try a hunter (another one).

This was interesting. Could one on Druids also be put together?

Another addon that I highly recommend hunter players make use of, is Fizzwidget Hunter's Helper (http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=1116). It provides a tool-tip when you mouse over a beast mob that will tell you if they are trainable, and what pet skills they can teach you. Also, if you already know one of the pet skills, it colors the name grey.
It also provides a lookup into its database, through a nice /hh find command, that tells you where you can find beasts that give a particular pet skill.

Yeah, the pet taming/training thing is one of the few areas where the in-game information doesn't make it painfully obvious what to do. Most hunters starting out will read a guide at least once.
I'd also recommend the TrackerAssist UI mod for any hunter.
