Resources for beginning priests
Priests... they're just healers, right?Wrong! Priests can deal a surprising amount of damage, when they have to. Shadow priests are especially good at hurting people. However, priests are most in demand as healers, and as such can be a very social class to play. Here's some useful stuff if you're rolling a priest, or thinking about doing so:
- Whispre's Priest Guide is both popular and helpful, helping with a class overview, a talent build for levelling quickly and even an Excel spreadsheet filled with spell data.
- WoWHealers.com has a variety of information for healing classes, including information on the priest epic quest (not exactly a newbie resource, of course!)
- Stratics has a full walkthrough for newbie Undead priests, if you fancy the darker side of life.
- A full listing of each level of each spell and its effect is useful from day one.
- Gamespot have a bit of information on PvE and PvP techniques for priests.
- Finally, the official forums have both an "official" and an "unofficial" FAQ. The official FAQ starts things off with useful questions like "Should I go for Shadow or Holy" and "Which race is best?" -- essential reading.

Man, I would be at least 35 by now if I actually paid attention to the shadow talent tree :-( Oh well will change that sooner than later :-)

That Whispre guide is awesome. If you follow his talent build you'll be a killing machine. Using bandages and a good wand, you can kill nonstop, even up through the 50s. A lot of people complain about priests being hard to play but once you get used to timing fears (in open areas) using a decent wand and mind blasts, you can take on a lot of mobs at once and sitll come out the victor. Priests kick ass!
Fade is great. Works in instances very well as long as you're good about not drawing aggro. If it's not working, then you're doing something wrong to draw the aggro.

Fade looks useful down the line, but as a newbie priest (level 10), it's not been working very well for me. I'll get better at managing it, though, I'm sure.

#3, Fade only works in groups. :)

I must say I have the most fun with my priest. Shadow makes soloing fun, and I can save people from certain death.
One of my favorite solo techniques is as such: cast regen (or shield if it's levels above me), then charge a Mind Blast. That gets their attention. Then I pop a SW:Pain, and quickly start Mind Flay, which slows their approach. They finally reach me, and then I Fear them. They run off, and I mind flay them again as they run around. Fear wears off and I can Mind Blast again. Then I just cycle Mind Blast and Mind Flay until they die or I run out of mana.

Fade is awesome. I use it all the time in groups, even when I was still in my teen levels. It just doesn't do anything unless there's someone else nearby to draw aggro.
Power Word : Shield is awesome. Whenever I'm playing any of my other characters who heal (druid or paladin) I keep missing that spell!
