Choosing your race...
Do
racial abilities play a part in choosing your race? Does the home city factor
into your choice? Or does it come down to pure aesthetics when you are choosing?I know some races offer preferential abilities for certain classes, for example; gnomes gain a 5% bonus to intellect, which is desirable for mages and warlocks. Orcs on the other hand, gain a passive pet bonus and an active melee talent, more suited to hunters and warriors, in my opinion.
Perhaps the choice of faces or skin color plays a part? Maybe it is the wicked hair choices offered to the undead that draws your eye...
Which race do you prefer? What plays a factor in your choice?

I think you mean "aesthetics" instead of "ascetics"

personally, I chose a human(Alliance) not because of any special attributes(human has shitty racial powers) but rather that I like a more "important" role in the Warcraft Mythology. Yeah, playing a Night Elf Hunter is fun, or a Gnome rogue, but how often did you see those guys in Warcraft 3? Human mages such as myself have quiet an important role. Plus, I played Alliance instead of Horde not because I was some noob, nor do I like "pretty" characters, but rather I disliked the more "tribal" aspects of the Horde when compared to the more Medieval Europe like Alliance.

I originally started as a Tauren warrior because i wanted to be an all out tank, good for solo and group, and i just seem to migrate to whatever the largest character in a given game is (might be because i'm 6'7 in real life)
after making an alt on the same server as an Orc, which are noticably faster, I chose undead to start a character on Akama (for the guild) based slightly on starting position (already been through the barrens to start twice, wanted something different) and a troll warrior just didn't look right. So i guess in the end it comes down to a mix of subconcious and characteristics, with maybe just a little bit of aesthetics

I have started characters on both sides... I have actually started one of every character of every race but only really stuck with the night elf, human, and undead. Humans are great because of the cool starting location, I liked #2's comment about midieval Europe, good call! The night elf was cool but the females were just too tall which bothered me, the human females were way prettier and had better dialogue (I just hate their dancing!). Undead appeal to me because they have a unique backstory and can relate to the human alliance as well as the horde. Ultimately they are all great but I think the scenery for the alliance is better :)

I don't know much about the mythology of WoW. I didn't know too much about the game when someone gave it to me this past Christmas. I did know that I wanted to play Undead, and that was for one reason only: Cannibalize. LOL. The Skill just seemed to be a neat one, and the other races just didn't have any appeal for me.
