Impending congestion at the Gates
It might be good being
first, but the residents of the Medivh realm aren't too happy with their new-found popularity. Topping the war effort
rankings, all their war effort needs is some additional bandages and they're good to go--however, a flood of newbies
eager to witness the event is threatening to topple the server. From n3rfed's commentary:
Recent days have seen a flood of level 1 alts on Medivh as players from other servers make the pilgrimage to Sithilus (sic) in order to watch Ahn'Qiraj finally open. Additionally, the wait queue of this previously modestly-populated server has multiplied to over 500 and new guilds going by such names of "OPEN TEH GATE", "Aq Opens" and "Get In Queue Please" have swelled in their ranks.
Wouldn't it be more sensible for all these alts to concentrate on farming resources for their own servers? Perhaps there is some glory in being there the first time the Gates are opened, even if you didn't contribute at all yourself. There's not much Blizzard can do about it now, but I wonder if they saw it coming.

I was really hoping that the people on Durotan would get their act together and work towards getting the damn gate open. Personally, I'm tired of gathering. It seems like no matter how much I gather, our percentage is just sitting there. It's frustrating. There's a part of me that just wants to go out there and get all the copper and have reputation out the yin yang but I'm not that hardcore.

As a Medivhian we're pretty ticked off about this. While we'd like as many people to show up as possible, Blizzard's infrastructure simply doesn't allow it.
It's taken a great deal of communication and coordination to get everyone on Medivh to go by the same page. We had to get people to avoid Moonglade when we were finishing that event, for example, and the massive effort of getting materials from one faction to the other has been nothing short of impressive. To have a bunch of people who clearly don't care and/or don't listen to the communication, and potentially crash the server repeatedly in the process, well... needless to say we're pissed.
As for it being a "Carebear realm", I imagine it would be even more difficult if we had to constantly kill off level 1 alts. It would actually multiply lag.
The only thing that makes us happy is some rumors that AQ WON'T open when we turn everything in, that another event needs to occur. Here's hoping the level 1 alts in Silithus will rot while they're waiting.

Well, they could block the creation of new characters until they are done, and block all single-digit characters until after the event is triggered.
They blocked character creation on some new servers for the first 48 hours - the servers were only available for character transfers. So there is somewhat of a precedent for such action.

They have blocked new character creation now from what I hear.

people aren't creating chars to help out, but to see what happens and to be annoying. people have announced they are just doing this to try to crash the server once the gates are about to open or have opened.
this already happened during the quest leading up to getting the sceptre, it will be worse once the gates actually open.
it does show blizzard something, once a realm is full they should just not allow new people comming in.

Welcome to my world, kids. Cenarion Circle, Kirin Tor and the other Rp servers have been full for months. Don't even try to log on at night. And they are low down on the war effort tally.
