Azeroth the Google Maps way

MapWoW is a nifty site which uses the Google Maps API to let you zoom and pan from Ashenvale to Zul'Gurub. While maps of WoW aren't rare, the depth of this one seems to have taken the Internet by storm, with sites from Slashdot to Fark covering it. I usually find the in-game maps suffice, but when they're not up to scratch, this should do the trick nicely.

Neat, but not entirely a first. Ballistic Mystix, a guild in Saga of Ryzom, did the same thing for that game:

Could have been a cool tool, but it's already slashdotted by a link from Fark. They had to turn off the markers on the site that gave you useful data. Doubt it'll ever become terribly useful since it looks easily overwhelmed unless they find a new host.
Maybe they'll release the source code.

Actually, the map markers were up last night when I checked. Amazing resource....
Except, I found that they're using the OLD (way old) map of the ruins of Andorhal in WPL. Which is funny, considering they have a link to it on the top of their page.

Damn, nevermind....looks like the resource maps are up again.
Just go to the site in a couple days once the traffic is gone.

Something like this with a lot of data points, and sitting on a good server with tons of bandwidth would be great! Emphasis on good server with tons of bandwidth.

This is the one I use:

Loads quickly and shows flight paths.
