Dwelling on Dwellings
With all the features that WoW offers to
players, one thing still rests on the top of a lot of people's wish-lists: player housing. Blizzard has said from the
beginning that housing is pretty far down on their to-do list, but there is a hardcore faction of players that are
still pushing for some real estate.Personally, I could give or take it; a house would be a neat little addition, but it would create a whole new element in the game that might upset the delicate WoW balance we all love. In other words, I want to be out questing & fighting other players, not shopping for a new end table.
In any case, the debate doesn't look to be dying down anytime soon, as this thread on the official forums shows. What are your thoughts on the subject? Do we need houses, or is the game fine as it is?

Let's correct lag and login issues before addressing anything new please.

housing is simply not needed in wow and will certainly cause people to go to cities less. the only reason to do it would be to show some items off to yourself. blizzard is totally right on this on, very down on the todo list.

Wow, that's a cool idea. But where would they put all the houses? Would it take years trying to get out of your neighborhood? Or would they be a virtual thing where only you see your house, and you're transported to/from there? MMM... this got me thinking...

housing... not a real big priority with me, except as long as it doesn't create lag OR ugly up the prestine landscape I so love in WoW.

Simple: Ever been to the Knight Lounge in Stormwind? The easiest way to accomplish player housing would be to make it an instance entrance in, say, Ironforge at one single house. Everyone would use the same entrance, but everyone's interior would be different. Cool, huh?

If it could be like Dalton Marks says, then I could see that working. If it were something like UO, where every person could have a physical house, or more than one, placed about anywhere, then that'd be the day I quit my beloved WoW.

Really, housing is too much like real life, I was in another MMO with housing and all the talk about whose house was bigger or had a better location and then the paying rent (!) and oh yeah borrowing rent and asking mates to pay for you cause you haven't paid your bill - well anyway I vote that it's all to real.

why would you want a house , what would it do to your enjoyment ?
boneyard Feb 8th 2006 4:35AM
and of course housing has to be instanced, but that will make one of the reasons of housing even less important. as you can't show off your throphies to none other then yourself.

I love the inns, towns and cities. No need for houses. Eventually WoW houses would just be something else to clutter up eBay and I am sure that some of the "we want housing crowd" want exactly that.

Dalton nailed it. Instance the housing from a couple of different spots in Ironforge/Darnassus/wherever (condos - LOL), and allow players to have others who are grouped with them enter their own spaces (perhaps the party leader's place would be the default or whatever). This is a great idea. Lots of people have been asking for trophy cases and whatnot for sometime now. They could be put in the houses/condos/whatever. And the RP'ers and cyberers would LOVE IT. It also adds new content for non-raiders (that has been a big topic lately), as the non-raiding folks can go on a series of soloable quests to get the furnishings they want! :) LOL

So as a Rogue, can I go into stealth mode and sneak into someones house and loot thier belongings? Their trophies would become my trophies.
elle Feb 8th 2006 2:23PM
I'll only root for this if Radiation's proposal is included, because ganking is fun for only so long. I also want to steal their stuff.
Actually, I'd love a BG with housing. You build your house only to see the horde burn it down; the alliance is too busy trying to get a teapot that matches their chest armor to fight back.
