Breakfast Topic: Game Over
It might not be something any of us are countenancing, but people do stop playing WoW. There are many reasons
to quit--lack of time, money, enthusiasm. However, as with any MMO, the words "Game Over" never flash on your
screen--how do you know when it's time to stop?We each have different goals when we play WoW. I play because I enjoy the social side of things, and my ultimate goal (if I had all the time in the world) would be to play every class to level 60, visiting every area and dungeon, finishing every quest line. I love the depth of WoW, and I like seeing the tricks that other classes can pull off to surprise me; I want to learn them all. I'm not in this game for epics, but I know many of you are. If I achieve that goal, I may stop playing, or I may have found another along the way.
What's your core goal in the game? Have you left WoW and returned, or has it always had a place in your life?

My time on WoW has dropped dramatically once I hit level 60 with my druid. I don't know if I'm playing the game enough now to make it worth the subscription fee, but I'm holding on until the rest of my guild hits the big six-oh and we can do some end game instances ourselves.
So, I guess my reason for sticking around is almost purely social.

I try not to think about an "ultimate goal" that I am trying to achieve. Right now my goal for my Tauren Warrior is to reach Lvl 23 so I can equip all of my Hulking gear (I tend to like my equipment to match). But as stated, I do have one goal - to get an entire set of epics.

At the moment I tend to play in the evenings to give me something to do while my wife works (she's currently putting in about 16 hours a day!).
I've definitely noticed my time on WoW tail off once I hit lvl 40 a few months back - hit 52 last night (I guess you can tell roughly how much I've been playing, from that) and did wonder what I'd do when I get to 60.
I've played a few PuGs but I'm mainly a solo player, so the social aspect is less of a drawer. The main reasons for this are that
- I am inherantly an antisocial git(!)
- I'm never quite sure how long I am going to play so don't like joining a group to do a big instance where there could be a danger I'd either have to leave them or do without sleep.
Maybe once I hit 60 I'll either try to find a guild (the two I've been in so far have collapsed) to go for some end-game instancing. There's probably just as much chance, though, that I'll start seriously playing through a new character and class instead...
Or, maybe my wife will have less work to do and I'll do something completely different.

I guess my goal is to keep playing until I can't stand it anymore. I also have this dream about collecting as many animals as possible. I want to have them all! I want to open a menagerie outside of Stormwind and charge admission to see all my pets. Other than that....I don't know. I also would like to have tea with all the Horde leaders someday. I guess we'll wait and see.

for WoW i don't have any goals , yes getting everything is end goal for us ( be it gold , epics ..etc ) but i know one day i would log and the game isn't fun anymore , i will stop it
just like Everquest , over 2 years of playing and buying expantion after expantion ( last 3 expantion i didn't get to fully explore ) but i loged one day and the game wasn't fun anymore , logged off , tried again in a week , same feeling , cancel and close the account

I started playing WoW in March 2005. I took my time reaching level 60...around 21 days playtime. In early September 2005 I quit the game, mostly due to boredom. Three weeks ago I re-subscribed and am so far having fun after the break.

I told myself that I was going to take one character through all of the game's content, to the extent that content is available for my character (meaning I miss out on non-faction, non-class quests). I'm level 54 now (gnome warlock), and I have noticed a significant slow down, not because I am less interested, but because the things I want to do take more time and require groups. My guild has fallen apart recently, so I don't have the ability to quickly get a PUG for instances and, of course, two out of three PUGs I do get are useless. So my limit has been time. As much as I want to grind the end-game content for sweet armor sets, I doubt I will have the time, and that will be that.

My general rule is to roll a new character when I hit level 25. That way, my level 25 gets some rest time while I level the new guy, and the new guy gets gear from my level 25. Means it'll take me months to get anyone to sixty, but I enjoy the variety. I find I can't go a day or two on the same class, I get bored easily:- solution, switch to my lower-level and mess around with him/her. Recently started a Warlock for that purpose, and it's a nice change of pace from my main, a Tauren Druid. Can't see me giving up anytime soon; nor can I see me hitting sixty. Ah well.

I've started playing WoW at release and I've quit twice for a period of several months.
The first time I quit was after hitting lvl 60 and watching my small guild fall apart. Plus there were other games I wanted to play and I was burnt out on fantasy RPGs. After a few months of PS2 and PC games I realized I missed WoW. It really is the best game ever made.
The second time I was forced to quit by Hurricane Katrina. High speed internet was hard to find in New Orleans for months after the storm.
I'd have at least 3 lvl 60s by now if not for those two breaks from the game.
