Ahn'Qiraj Held Hostage
As you may or may not
realize, getting into Ahn'Qiraj requires not only a massive farming effort, but also a long, tedious quest
chain. The quest starts with a faction grind - requiring the quester to collect 42,000 silithid carapace fragments
to reach neutral with the Brood of
Nozdormu. (Yes, you did read that correctly - 42,000. Each silithid kill will net 1-4 carapace
fragments, so you may use your imagination to guess how long it might take to collect enough.) The quest
continues after this for many, many steps, several of them requiring a raid group to complete. The final reward
for this quest is the Scepter of the Shifting Sands - which must be used to open the gates after the war turn-ins are
completed. However, a guild on Detheroc server that has completed the quest chain has decided to hold the
server's access to Ahn'Qiraj hostage, saying they will only open the gates once they
receive 5,000 gold from the server. While the quest chain is long, difficult, and costly, it's also
very rewarding - granting the quester several very nice epic items along the way. Is a guild completing the
Ahn'Qiraj quest chain justified in making such demands for their hard work?Update: This has been officially declared a joke.

I think it's awesome. Why not? It takes the role-playing aspect of the game a step further and deeper.
Now if only another guild can get up to that point to undercut them.

Gotta love those attention-starved kids.. those who get upset by this ripoff need to understand the gates will open by themselves anyway, guild-gonged or not; they're just doing this for kicks because they're a l33t top guild (or whatever).

Thats doesn't seem very "Role playing" to me, not in the traditional way. Maybe they're role playing as Mafia trying to profit off a supposed threat to the world, but to me, that just sounds more like trying to profit off the game as a business opportunity, instead of actually enjoying the game itself.

kinda shame it was a joke, sure it sounds annoying but has it fun sides also. would have certainly spiced things up on that world :)

Heh... I for one dont think it was a joke. The gate is still not opened. I think they simply noticed this was getting them more heat than they were willing to deal with and they are back peddling now.

If it wasn't a joke and they intended to keep the gold, then why would they have bothered with a log of who sent in money and how much? They would have only been keeping track of the total count, not how much each individual player contributed. Just my two cents.

Who cares why they kept count of who gave how much. Reality is they still havent opened it(excuse is they want to have a lot of members online for it... its been over a week and they do BWL all the time... more excuses). I have to agree them saying its a "joke" seems like a cop out after it all seemed to blow up in their faces.
Either way all they did was ruin their reputation in the end since no one got the joke and no one really thought it was funny besides them(they still getting heat on the server). They are just spinning it their favor trying to save face while still insulting people... "It was a joke... and anyone who doesnt agree is stupid cause WE thought it was funny".
I doubt it was a joke... If it ever was, it was a very bad joke... and it backfired...
