I really appreciate alot of the things that Blizzard is trying to do with this latest patch. What I am wondering about is the fact that they recently said they want to make the game more appealing to casual players. Being a semi-casual player (not hardcore, but on enough to raid some), I am appalled at the 5-man cap for Strat, Scholo, and BRD and the 10-man cap for BRS. In the past my guild has enjoyed getting a 10-man together for a UBRS run just for fun and for us to socialize, but now that is not atainable. As a semi-casual player I feel abandoned by this new system. It's not that I am complaining because these instances have become harder in a sense, it's because I feel that I have lost something that I looked forward to on the weekends. Getting together with a group of friends and killing things. I'm sure Blizzard had a good reason for making these changes and hopefully they will be apparent in the near future.

Wow, I totally mis-read something and I apologize. LBRS and UBRS will still be 10-man. I am sorry if I caused confussion. The above still applies to my thoughts though. It seems like the semi-casual players needs are being overlooked.

Well, as I understand it, the dungeons (Stratholme, Scholomance, and Blackrock Depths) were originally designed with 5 player groups in mind. However, the fact that they weren't restricted to 5 players resulted in players rarely to ever approaching the dungeons with the proper numbers. When Dire Maul was designed and released, it was capped for the number it was designed for - five - and it's a fun challenge. I suspect the revamped dungeons will also provide a fun challenge and certainly take some getting used to. For me, the challenge is fun - but then again, I've always had the option of doing a 5 player run, just now they're removing the option to do a 10 player run.
I don't think the dungeons will become impossible, but they will require players to work harder from beginning to end (though I have done 5 player Stratholme runs that have gone smoother than 10 player Stratholme runs - I've also done 10 player Stratholme runs where I was bored silly ). I hope that players will come to realize that they can run these dungeons with just 5 players, in a reasonable amount of time, and end up with more loot for everyone in the end - and doesn't that sound like a win for everyone? - despite the fact that the initial reaction seems to be universally negative. But we'll see how it turns out...

Well class wise, they helped out my paladin a lot, since he's Holy Sheild specced. But my Warlock got a bit of a nerf with that shadowburn shard thing. I rarely use shadowburn on grey con mobs, but when I do, I want my shard back. Grey elites will be slightly harder to deal with.
The new bags will help out with herb gathering a lot. Hopefully they work in the bank slots too. And my tailor might make some money off them. They need bags for metal, leather, and gems now too.
I like the end-of-the-line gryph flight paths idea. I can set my toon off from Auberdine to Winterspring and go do something else.
Can't wait to see the weather effects. Hope they aren't on all the time though. They should be periodical and kinda random, like real weather.
I also love the idea of getting gold instead of xp for quests at level 60. I'm wondering if I should just grind my lock from 56-60 and do all the quests later, for the gold. My paladin's been 60 for a while now, and I guess he gets ripped off from all those quests he did at 60 that didn't give rewards. Depends on exactly how much Gold for Xp we're talking here.
All those UI coding changes are greek to me, but I hope they don't totally screw up the mods I use. That always makes patch day painful.
As for when the patch will be out, I'm guessing around the time Oblivion releases, March 20. It seems like Blizz has a way of timing the big patches to counter other big RPG releases. Battlegrounds came out around the same week as Guild Wars if I remember correctly.
I'm still gonna take a break from WoW and play Oblivion though, weather effects or not. It will be interesting to see how many others do too.

Anybody know what "Trying to spoof item links will disconnect you." refers to?
fhornmikey Mar 4th 2006 3:50PM
@Joe
Spoofing item links refers to the fact that using 3rd party programs, you used to be able to edit a item link with some added text.
This of course leads to some hilarious /yells in Ironforge of "WTS [Michael Jackson's Glove of Arcane Wrath]" etc. etc.

And to add on to this. If 5 man dungeons offered the same loot as 40 man dungeons do you think any players would spend the time to organize raids? Hell fucking no... because organizing 40 people blows and instead of letting down a group of friends you are letting down 39 pissed off loot whores instead.
40 man raids should of always been limited to things like Onixyia, the green dragons, and other real world boss monsters.
