Revised Inner Fire: Better or Worse?
In the upcoming patch, the priest's
inner fire skill has been revamped, and not everyone thinks it's for the best. The attack power bonus has been
removed, the armor bonus has been increased, and the duration has increased from 3 minutes to 10 minutes.
However, there's an added caveat to that new duration - inner fire now has 20 charges, and each time the priest is hit,
a charge is used. This means that when a priest is taking hits in combat, inner fire isn't going to last 10
minutes, or even 3 minutes - numbers being thrown around on the
priest forums suggest that a rogue could go through all charges in 10 seconds while a hunter pet would take 15
seconds. But despite public outcry, community manager Eyonix has said that they're pleased
with the improvements. While I'm not one of the people claiming they're going to be removing inner fire from their hotbar, I'm certainly disappointed that, when confronted with complaints about the skill's short duration, Blizzard decided to significantly reduce the duration.

I can't say whether the new IF is bad or not, I just haven't seriously played a priest past lv22ish yet; what bothers me though, Blizz throws change ideas around and creates some contreversy, they don't even bother explaining their vision behind those changes despite players' concerns (forget about the whiners, it'd still be nice to -understand- why this is getting changed a certain way rather than another).

Having used the new inner fire on the test forums, I'd say it's good. It really makes a non-shadow priest able to take big hits and survive them (and a shadow priest even better). I never once saw the charges get burned through at an alarming rate. I think the holy priests healing in raids will like it a lot when a boss does an AE that may have once brought them to their knees, they will now stand more of a chance.
Being that it's instant cast, rebuffing with it isn't a huge deal (despite the increased mana cost).

If youre a priest then you're in cloth. If you're in cloth and take 20 consecutive hits in a BG youre going to be dead either way. PVE is a whole nother story, but for PVP i feel this will work out for the best, and as im currently working on raid healing and BG rep grinding, i'm pretty happy.
