Pay for Character Transfers Coming Soon?
Terra Nova reports the
interesting tidbit that character transfer on-demand could soon be available - at a cost. While community
managers on the official forums have, in the past, confirmed that Blizzard's plan has been to have realm-wide transfers
available for a fee, no details or ETA has ever been provided. Terra Nova informs us that a customer service call
resulted in an automated message about character transfers, which was then confirmed by a live customer service
representative. I think I have a couple of characters that I'd jump on the opportunity to move, but I suppose
this would depend on the fees involved - after all, such transfers in Everquest cost $75.Filed under: Blizzard, Realm News, News items

It makes good business sense for people to be able to get together - those folks are more likely to keep playing and paying. I've had a number of occasions where friends end up on other servers for various reasons that would like to join me and can't - and they utimately ended up quitting.

yes most of the free transfers so far were for the purposes of reducing congestion on the most populous servers by transfering them to the new servers. This seems to be so that you can move your character to a server your friend is playing on. Maybe I should move my Horde character to the realm where my Alliance friend is just so I can gank him.

I know this is one of the features I'm holding out for, but man, I really hope it doesn't cost $75.00

$75 is kinda high for a transfer. I guess only the uber hardcore gamers would transfer and reap the benefits. Casuals pwned again? O.o

This should have a real currency component, ie $10. But it should also have an in-game component, something along the lines of Collection Quest to get all the reagents needed for opening a Portal. Say 5 items, all drops or quest items and soulbound so no-one can sit in IF selling them, which you have to make a decent effort running around the world to collect. You bring them back to Bob the Shard Portal Bridger, he spiffs up a new portal for ya, and poof, you're in the queue to transfer servers. And make it, say 1 month cooldown on the portal per char.
It then pops you to yer account mamangement screen, you log in and accept the $10 transfer fee and designate your destination server.
Keep the price low enough that it's just a Service Fee, while having the game time spent as the hoops to jump thru if you REALLY want to transfer.

Your idea makes a whole lot of sense to me. Not a huge fee which allows younger folk to participate, but with a definate commitment of time spent in game towards the effort.

I have 3 60's on lightbringer. I was wondering if a transfer for Lightbringer happened would I be able to take 1 of my 60's somewhere else or would I have to take them all to another server?

I'm more than willing to toss down a few coins to move characters around, but nothing along the lines of $75. That's more than the friggin' game costs.
