Breakfast Topic: Acts of cruelty
In stark contrast to yesterday's wonderful tales of altruism, today
we're looking at the flipside -- unwarranted cruelty. Have you ever ganked someone just because you could? Pulled a
quest mob knowing that those nearby would have to wait another 15 minutes for it to respawn? Given a newbie
purposefully bad directions? Summoned people to their death? There are quite a few nasty tricks you can play on others in WoW, whether they deserve it or not. I like to think I'm a nice person, but I've done my share of "run in, get the named quest mob before anyone else can, run out" -- sometimes it's an easy way to finish a quest, as everyone nearby will fall on the mob in hope it becomes theirs. On the other hand, the excuse "everyone else is doing it" doesn't hold much weight amongst grown adults.
What are your tales of cruelty and horror towards other WoW players? What's the worst trick you've fallen victim of?

I would have to say some of the most annoying acts of cruelty (PVP-servers only) are when you're doing an escort quest (the terribly long one in Felwood comes to mind) and your party is utterly decimated by a gank squad. The quest takes forever, and having to start over is painfully frustrating when you're escorting a TREE.

Oh I/ do so many cruel acts, but granted, I am on my undead rogue at the time, and he brings out the worst in me.
On Fenris island, in the keep, theres a human in there you have to kill for a quest, and when I went to find him, there were two other players killing him, he was quite close to dying but so where they, but i was torn, do I help them so they dont die but suffer the wait of the respawn, or do I watch them die? I watched them die and I started my attack with him at half health. I know it was cruel, but I just did not want to wait.
Other then that, the usual things I do as a rogue, ganking lowbies cause I suffered a lot of that myself, so they have to pay the price, killing people mid-battle or while they eat, and stealing chest or herb right under an alliance character.
Dont think of me all bad, on the flip side, I have a Human Paladin as well, and when I am playing him, I am quite nice, its all because of my rogue

Three words: Mind. Control. Lava.
I don't like instances much, so usually the highlight of any trip to Blackrock Spire is getting in. Alliance have this tendency to hang out too close to the edge, and if they wait 3 seconds to attack me... they're going for a quick swim.
The cruel part is probably launching them out as far as possible so they're screwed when they try to rez. One of these days I'm going to catch a paladin without his cheater bubble cooled down, and it's going to be wonderful.

Actually, I am always nice in the game. Once a low level Tauren Warrior (he was like 10 lvls lower) tryed to kill me, so I hit him twice, so he has very low health, stunned him and stopped attacking. After that I talked to an NPC and walked away.
But if you count attacking a rare mob (silver dragon) with others near, than I might not be soo nice ^^

This is a great topic! Just this morning someone in my Guild said some newbie was following him around everywhere so he went to Darkshire and the newbie was killed.
As for the eating thing... I dont know if Southshore is attacked as much on my server as other servers by the Horde, but I was a level 32 Night Elf Priest when this happened and there was an Undead level ?? something (I dont remember what class, I just wanted to kill this guy).Anyway he was sitting amongst dead bodies eating, replenishing his health. I ran up to him and started attacking that SOB. He killed me on the second hit. Luckily for me the grave yard was like 2 feet away. I ran up, cast renew and started on him again since his health was low. He took off running and I started chasing him. We were halfway to the mill when he stopped, thinking I gave up. I did a Mind Blast on him that went critical and he died! I couldn't belive it. He killed me a few seconds later while I was dancing on his corpse.
I'm going to try some Mind Control stuff soon. Thanks for the tip!

Rogues are KOS grief x10 when I'm playing my hunter because they give me more trouble than any other class (though I'm finally getting geared up enough to fight off ambushes).
I don't kill the lowbie rogues, I just wait until they've drawn aggro then hit them with scorpid sting to drain stamina and concussive shot to slow them down that way the mob kills them :) :)
It's mean I know, but when you play a class that is built like the rogue you need to expect that any time you are vulnerable it will be exploited.

Oh man - I totally fear someones targets so they attract mobs, that and summoning into lava.
A ton of guys on Kodo's blocked the mailbox in org before, that was entertaining.

There seems to be a constant stream of Undead rogues that head to Westfall to gank the Defias Traitor as he walks ever so slowly to Moonbrook.

I believe I was lvl 49 (or late 40s) on my undead rogue when I was at the Bulwark when a lvl 60 NE rogue challenged me to a duel. Knowing I'd lose, I accepted just for fun. After quickly getting my ass handed to me, RIGHT after the duel, I was automatically flagged for PVP (on a PvE server), and the idiot ganked me before I Was able to take my 3rd step. You better believe I was pissed.
I was also ganked at lvl 12 by a 43 NE hunter while he was going to SM. I flagged myself just for the hell of it; I didn't expect to get killed 30 sec after.

I was on as my 34 Undead Rogue running back to UC and there, at the crossroads in FRONT of the entrance to UC, is a 34 human mage, flagged. Just... STANDING there. I hesitated, it smelled SO much like bait, but I couldn't help but take it.
Stealth, Cheap shot, standard drill. She got one spell off before biting it. Turns out she wasn't bait. Just... stupid.
~evil laugh~

One time, while wandering around the UD starting area with my NE rogue buddy (me playing on my NE hunter), we say these 2 UD guys running by flagged for PvP (on the PvE Uther server). Suffice to say, we figured anyone dumb enough to flag deserves to die, so they each got 1-shotted.
While on the horde side, my orc rogue friend and I (troll shaman) kill anyone who is flagged while we were out questing... though these people were always within 3-5 levels of us. Usually, they don't even know what hit them, so its pretty funny to just watch them drop. Especially when they have friends with them who just stand there and watch you leave.
Also, rooting people who chase me into the water on my druid is pretty damn fun...

Not so much with the PVP..but..
You know the fountain in Stormwind, just outside the bank? If you do it just right, you can jump up it and stand on the top tier next to the statue..
Well, me and some guildmates were trying to get up it for a group screencap, when some lowbies asked what we were doing.. Without even thinking, I said it was a quest. If you got to the top, the statue had a quest for ya.
Then this lvl 40+ gnome, not in on the joke, joined in trying to jump his mount up there "for the follow-on quest".
For the next 1/2 hour, that statue was covered in lowbies trying to jump up and get the statue quest.. I about peeded myself. Once we finished laughing like the sadistic jerks we were being, we let them know we were yanking their chains.. But at least they learned how to jump up the fountain :)

Two personal favorites I've done multiple times:
1) I find an Alliance doing an underwater quest (Desolace and STV are good for this), stealth up behind them, and sap. Then I use my extra undead breath to swim around them, spamming /laugh as they drown.
2) In AV, when a gimp who doesn't know the drill is a) being stupid, and b) misleading others through the /raid chat, I whisper "watch out, your AFK flag is on, type /afk to turn it off." Works more often than you'd think, though unfortunately only once per gimp.

I...I saw a level 13 dorf priest running to BB when I was about level 43.
So, I started helping him get there. Whenever someone saw me, I said "Hey, don't kill him, it's cool".
He got to the entrance to BB. /thanked /bow'd me etc...
I walked up to him, and sinister striked. /danced /violined...

There is a long pain in the ass quest in feralas, an escort quest, that dumb chicken... Well I was riding past on my rogue, noticed a horde escorting the chicken to the shore, so I stealth at the very end, and right before the last group of mobs comes out, I sap the horde. He stands there, watching them all masacre the chicken, while I laugh horribly. I felt like such a jerk. Worse yet, I didn't kill him, just rode away.

Hey go ahead and slag me off, I prolly deserve it for being serious but: I always wonder if this is the nature of the people behind the toon or if it a "moral vacation" of the people driving the toon or if it is nothing at all and if you say it means nothing, how can that be? Are we not logging in from the supposed real world to make non-real decisions in the virtual world and are those decisions reflective of our normal rl side, our secret rl instincts, our dark rl side, are you a rl murderer or spiller of baby's milk or do we agree to still say this means nothing? I'm saying there is some decision made way way back in the mind.

Like most priests that run MC, after getting the Eye of divinity, my priest buddy was eager to go to Eastern Plaguelands to do the quest. so at 3 in the morning after MC, we head to EPL. For the people that have never done this, you take 1 of every class that can give a buff, but they cannot actively interfere after the event starts, or it fails. Well, I was the first one there, and there is a NE priest, who has started the event. And his guild is KOS for mine. I hide in the back and wait till he's at low health, the event is about to be over. Then I run up, dot him up, and run like hell. His party gives chase runs into mine on the way there and gets pwned. Our priest had to wait till morning, but good times were had by all (all horde anyway, and that's all that matters). PvP server ftw!

hey #9 your right the mage you killed was stupid. i was running thru ashenvale with my lvl 37 undead mage when i saw these two lvl 28 and 29 gnome rogues stealthed headed for my back. i waited for them to both get in range and then frostnovad them. then sheeped one. i think at this point the other one must have been crapping his pants. i used fireball and it crits him then i use PoM and another fireball this time it gets impact and hes cant do anything so i cast another fireball and firebasted him then one AE later he was dead. when then other guy got out of sheep he ran as fast as his little gnomish legs could carry him. but i used a rank one frostbolt to slow him down the rank 5 then fireball and as soon as his health was low enuf i used arcane missiles like any decent mage would and everyone knows that if the first 2 missiles hit you wont be able to escape the other three. yea the part thats cruel about that is that he was so insignificant that i should of just let him go but im a coldhearted person i guess. dont mess with sensei jakk!
