Breakfast Topic: Ding!
Some dings mean more than others. Across all my alts, I've heard the noise and seen the yellow flashes over
two hundred times -- yet few of them are memorable. I find odd-numbered levels particularly boring, as nothing really
happens (some armour and quests become available, but even numbers are where it's at). However, some dings are memorable enough to make up for the monotone of the majority. Hitting 60 (see right) isn't an experience most of us forget; my first "big ding" was at 40, after beating up some STV gorillas for those last few XP. What's your best ding memory?

God, I hate people who "ding!" every damn level. I'll do it at the 3 important ones: 20, 40, and 60. Those the only ones that really count anyhow... Every 10 levels I can understand, but no one cares that you just hit level 33...

From my point of view, as a MMO veterant, WoW's dings are not real dings.
It is far too easy to grind a character in this game.
I am coming up with my favourite ding, which was back in the time of Everquest, when i first reached level 60 (max level before Planes of Power extension).
I had 55 days played when i reached that level and 6 months of fun behind me.

I'm guessing this is pretty common, but 40 was my most memorable by far. I had scrimped and saved and actually had the gold on hand to get a mount, so it was pretty exciting.
On a side not, we even named our guild Tenacious Ding because we had to hear that leveling sound at least once or twice a day.

I still remember level 40. Because I'd just finished some herb farming in the badlands (rough place for that, mobs everywhere), and once I had all the Firebloom I wanted, I hearthed back to UC.
That was when I glanced at my XP bar and saw it very, very full. I moused over it, and I was only down by a few XP. Maybe 200 tops. Instead of flying back to some obscure realm where I could actually still get XP from mobs, I ran to the Bulwark.
I crossed over into the Western Plaguelands, "discovered" that first map area, and DING! 40. And since I'm a Warlock, it was mount time! Yayz!

My most memorable ding was hitting level 40. At the beginning of the night, I was level 38. I made a promise to myself that I would not go to sleep that night until I hit level 40 and acquired my mount.
I began the night grinding elite mobs in Stromgarde. We wiped the area twice and my quest item never dropped, so I left the area and started doing other quests in Arathi. This was only the beginning of a 10 hour Warcraft marathon that consisted of solo questing in Arathi, a Warsong Gultch BG game, and a Gnomeregan instance run. I began playing at about 6:15 PM, and at 4:45 AM the next morning, I had acquired my undead steed.

Im all for the timely ding...I was working on cleaning up my quest log in Silverpine. I was doing the "Husband's Revenge" quest and just killed the name mob (can't think of his name right now), when I go swarmed by a three guys. I was getting low on health, when DING!....
Since I was back at full health, I had no problem with the remaining two....

I "ding" to my guild at level 40, and my last char I dinged from 55-60. The whole 10s-40s thing bothers the heck out of me. I was watching people do it at 17... who the crap cares about 17?? That's like..1, possibly 2 days of playing!

I completely disagree. The game actually pretty much fails to scale XP gained from killing monsters and completing quests NEARLY as fast as it scales XP requirments to hit the next level. I understand it's supposed to be like that to some degree (i.e. it ought to be slightly harder to level from 50 to 51, than to level from 10 to 11), but as it is it's going to take me MONTHS and MONTHS to get to level 50. I've been at level 43 since April 10th. There's such a thing as a game that's too long...

At 60 was my biggest.
I had 30 min till work and had to get half my xp bar to 60. I saw a friend in Silithus who helped me power lvl to 60. I was 15 min late for work but it was worth it =)

My hunter hit 60 by killing the boss at the end of my first ever Strat run. The boss dropped a pair of Beastmaster leggings too. It doesn't get much better than that ;)

I don't think this could be considered the "best" ding story I can come up with, but keeping in theme with the LV40 dings...
I was talking about it a lot since a couple of people in my guild has just gotten to their 40. Well, I got to my 40 and went to buy my mount and what happens? I had to spend money on how to ride the friggin' mount. Now I had to go back and grind for more gold.
What is wrong with dinging at 17? On my first character that is when I found out that I talent points that I could spend!

Both level 40 and 60 were as memorable as each other..for level 40 i had been off work ill for a week starting at level 34i did a level a day finally hitting level 40 fresh with enough gold to buy my mount, i then spent about 2 hours just riding around, mostly backwards and forwards from XR to Orgrimmar :D. For level 60 i decided i had done as much as i could bear in the BG's and wanted 60, i sent myself down to silithus and did a pure grind...surprisingly i got through about 80k XP in just over an hour, dying on a single mob which would have put me into level 60 i rezzed, made my way back and took out my last levelling mob hitting 60 and gaining an epic axe (Brain hacker) in the process, i launched into the biggest DING! in general chat you will ever see to celebrate my success! Classic!
