Breakfast Topic: Alts for odd reasons
While many of us have alts to try out new styles of gameplay, or to make accessing the Auction House easier, many
players create new characters with specific ideas in mind. A friend of mine recently created a pink haired gnome simply
because he wanted one the moment he saw one -- instead of levelling up, he just runs around with her and enjoys whatever
there is to enjoy about gnomes. After giving one of my new characters a name inspired by a series of books, I decided to create some alts with more "book-inspired" names to give her some company, but I'm sure there are far crazier reasons for making particular alts. What's your story?

I created a gnome male just so i can use all the emotes in Ironforge. Their dance, laugh, cray are the best.

My bank alt is a gnome warlock named Gnomestein. I refer to him as my accountant. I made him to look like this little old Jewish man at my synagogue and whenever I log onto him I have him grumble and moan in half-Yiddish about the kinder always bugging him for gelt.

I too made a gnome purely for the "gnome-ness" of it all. I figured I'd make a gnome rogue, and make her as cute as possible. I then went ahead and hit the Deadmines until I got the entire defias armor set. Now she's a badass! It's just too bad I gave her pink hair... I'd kill for a dye job so it can be black... *sighs*
On a side note, I made my horde banker an Orc warlock, simply because I used to have a human warlock who I absolutely hated playing once I hit 25 (and I got him to 40... yikes). I figured I'd never play the guy, so it wouldn't be another alt to take away from my main's play time. Boy was I wrong... he's already 36... I think I have an alt problem...

I have two alliance characters, one that I used for a naked short-man-syndrome (only dwarves & gnomes allowed) race from Ironforge to Goldshire & the accompaning full 40-man raid on Hogger, and another dwarf pally named "Hordeftw" that I used to assist in the shipment of goods for the opening of the AQ gates.
Neither are above level 4...

On Duskwood I've seen a slew of horde alts made specifically to have their names spell out messages to the alliance that were then run to Ironforge and strategically killed in a left to right order to make a sentence. Now THAT is alts for no reason.

I made an alt named "Underpantz"
The Underpants Gnomes have a three-phase business plan, consisting of:
1. Collect underpants
2. ???
3. Profit!

I made an alt on a different server just to give me something to do when my server is down. I use it more than you think. As a matter of fact, yesterday there was a slew of NE alts all running about the starting area of Steamwheedle Cartel RP server because so many servers were down. The residents there were very upset... their party was crashed by Barrens-chatting Normal server alts! And most of us play Horde only on our real server!

I tend to make nonsensical names for my alts that include my own name. 'Matwhat' shrugs a lot and 'Matsayshi' is always waving at everyone.
Stupid yes, but fun :)

I actually did the same thing with a pink haired gnome. But I liked him so much that I ended up leveling him to 60.
My favorite alt is Snoballs. I maxed out his inventory and bank with stacks upon stacks of snow balls from Winter's Veil. Now, in the dead heat of summer, I can surprise people with a blast of snow to the face.

More bank slots, I can't bring myself to shell out gold for those extra slots, it's too expensive; so I have a gazillion alts, item transfers are sometimes hectic (say you need something right away, and not the 1-2 hours mail sometimes takes), but it's infinitely cheaper that way.

i have a "polgara" from the David Eddings series. and i have a horde alt with my last name spelled backwards, because it looked ugly, like the tauren i created. usually i give my chars celtic names that refer to either their speciality or class. like Elethia means healer. and Calathia means battle warrior (if i remember correctly) and an caster named Aeiden because aed or aodh means fire.

I have a main named Luciee, and alts named Salliee and Linuus. Next up: CharleeBrown, Snoopie and Schroeder!
Luciee is a gnome warlock with a cute but vacant face and bright green pigtails. I LOVE gnomes, though Salliee is a troll and Linuus a dwarf. I do wish there were hairstylists in the game so I could go get a new dye job and maybe a haircut--something different would be fun. My husband's main is a gnome mage, and he specifically chose the ugliest gnome face possible. We're quite a pair bouncing through the countryside. I love annoying the folks (and they are legion) who don't like gnomes--what's not to like?

So that's what was happening on Steamweedle. I, too, created an alt there cause my server was down and I wanted to see what an RP server was all about. It was worse even than my 'normal' server.
On topic, I created alts with different professions to be self sufficient. Alchemy works well, tailoring, leatherworking and blacksmithing works ok until dropped armor is better than what can be made. Except for items like rods needed by other professions. Enchanting needs to be able to do mail order enchants and engineering is kind of a waste as long as only engineers can use many of their products.

I have an alt that does MINING/BLACKSMITHING, I use him to make money for my main. I split the money with my 60 freind who mines me all my high level ores. We can make 300g a day easy!

My main running crew with myself is 4 man team, so our alts are usually themed.
For example....
We have 4 orcs named after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and we all wear our color corresponding shirts. (I'm "Leonarrdo")
http://thisisjerkass.com/hor/pics/turtles.jpg
We have 4 undead characters named after the Ghostbusters. I'm "RayStantz" and am joined by "EgonSpengler" "Vankman" and "Winstonz"

Any suggestions for other 4 man teams?

If you've ever randomly check a server, and discovered you had an alt on it.. You may be a compulsive roller.
Actually had it happen to me.. 3 times. I've deleted almost a dozen alts on various servers, some as high as level 16, that I knew i wouldn't be back to play, just so they wouldn't be counting against the total character limit. I think I still have a few lurking out there.. If you don't use them for a while, the login screen fails to mention that you have alts on those servers.
I've tried pretty much every combo of race/class except gnomes and undead. Gnomes are for banks.. I can't take them seriously.. except for this warrior on dark iron for suicide runs against Panda Attack.. I've rolled 3 undead chars.. and just can't 'feel' them.. it's like they're dead inside :) that and mages. Hope the next review improves things for all ya mages, cause the two i rolled blew mountain goats. Hunters/warlocks are pet happiness. Have a black Teutonic Paladin who vill pump you up, yah.. and pallies really are easy mode.

I have a couple alts for weird reasons.
-I have a night elf druid that I only play at the same time as my ladyfriend when she plays her rogue. Our XP is identical!
-I have a dwarven pally named Laliho as a tribute to Final Fantasy 4 being available on Gameboy
-I have a gnome mage named Odoyle just so I can run up to people and say "Odoyle Rules!" Watch for him on Aggrammar!
