Breakfast Topic: New Races

As we all know, the upcoming Burning Crusade expansion will include two new races - the Blood Elves and the Draenei. For me, the thought of a new race to try out has reinvigorated interest in the game. After having played around with nearly every class and race combination at least a little, the thought of something new is exciting, and I'm already planning out what I'd like to play. Is everyone else equally eager to have a chance to play with the new races, or is there something else you're looking forward to seeing in the expansion?

Well Im looking forward to playing with a new race but Im really looking forward to the flying mounts and new instances. Yep My Rogue and Pally can finally have more fun.

Obviously I'd rather see a new class or two, because a hunter is a hunter, whether he's a human, orc, or draenei. I can understand their relunctance though, as balancing this game is tough enough as it is.
My biggest fear with the expansion is that all of a sudden the world will be dominated by Draenei and Blood Elves at the expense of other races. I'm sure it will even out after awhile, but the first couple weeks after release should be interesting. Which is why I'm going to wait awhile to create my beastly Draenei warrior.

I'm really looking forward to playing the new races. The only down side is that so will everyone else, so the blood elf and dreani population will go from 0% to 95%... Where did they all come from?

In short term the new races are the most fun. Thinking more long term the new content will be alot more fun. Really looking forward to flying mounts... Just hope that they won't cost a gazillion gold...

I'm not really that happy about Blizzard's decision to add Blood Elves and Draenei. As an avid Horde player, the population distribution gap between the two factions is quite noticable, especially when trying a 3 on 10 Warsong Gulch match. These new races are just going to exacerbate this problem, since Blood Elves are nothing more than red Night Elves. But the Draenei, as far as I can tell, are a completely new model (or at least not a blatant rip-off). What that means is that more players will flock to the Alliance side of things, leaving the Horde even more underpopulated.

Well atleast on most servers i have played on, the horde already dominates the allys in just about everything exept for that occasional ally raiding guild. In my opinon adding the bloodelves is trying to even out the problem. Think about it, if your 12 years old and you just got your brand new World of Warcraft are you going to be more likely to pick the unnatractive, slimy, horde... or will you pick the allys with their more attractive races and settings. If you want proof that blizard loves the horde then just go to the barrens! Never have I seen more go here and kill 10 of these quests in my life. Anyway, to sum up, the adding the bloodelves to the horde is a way of trying to swing more younger, unexperianced players to the horde. Mabey instead of making fun of the 12 year old NE rouge running around with cloth on in westfall, we will be mocking the 12 year old BE running around the barrens with one dagger.

I'm excited. As a Horde only guy, the blood elves seem to offer some exciting posibilities to class balance. Their racials actually seem to powerfully lean towards fury warrior and rogue as they have rage generation and energy restoration, as well as a silence to deal with those pesky casters in pvp. In fact, that silence could be quite a deal breaker in something along the lines of Alterac Valley. The question in my mind currently, how long do the energy tap charges last? Can they be easily carried over from one fight to the next. A warrior with 20-60 backup rage ready to burst is quite a helpful advantage.

I'm an even player between horde and alliance, though most recently I have worked harder on 2 allies to catch a friend or 2 on the same server. I have to say that the addition of Draenei actually has me interested in either a pally or a warior. Granted not a full heal, but a self healing warrior? That'd be kinda nifty. And the screenshot of the Draenei in Judgement is pretty fearsome looking, imo.
And I'll prolly roll a Belf Lock and Preist.

I think that the new races are going to dominate for awhile.. Many many alts im sure since i doubt 60's in say bloodfang or nemesis are going to re-roll. But their racials are absolutely devistating. Along with all the new content with the draenei and bloodelf is just ~wow~. Im kind of dissapointed with the decision because alas, EVERYONE will play them at it will just be like the Nightelf OP.
Just my $0.02

Keli, I play on two servers where the horde vastly outnumber the alliance so I'm not sure your worries will necessarily pan out.

I am quite dissapointet by the new races.
Mainly: I am sick of leveling from 1-60 already. Doing the Newbie area is quite entertaining, grinding and questing from 40-60 is already a pain.
After more than a year of WoW I already know MOST abilities of ALL classes and so just starting a new character on a new race makes no sense. If I'd be really interested in playing a class I would have done half a year ago.
Now, it basically comes to: "Alright.. reached level 20 .. that's it with the new content, let's log to our old lvl 60 rogue and grind ourselves to 70 to get something new"
Mig! May 18th 2006 4:26PM
I am pretty partial to my character, but trying out one of the new races will definately be fun. Plus, I love the new dances. I have to try those out:)
Casikao May 19th 2006 10:49AM
I agree UNI Not completely set on doing a class... that i've played or had the opportunity to play on just a new race. that everyone will be grinding on mind you for their title of First 60 Dreanei or 60 Bloodelf, Who cares. IMO. I think that maybe a new class would have been better, or re-vamping the old classes and make them more interesting.
Dreanei's ship.. i just dont understand their concept. But just my $0.02
