Breakfast Topic: Summer Vacation in Azeroth
Well, summer is upon us again here in the northern hemisphere, and that can mean only one thing: that the youth of the world will once again invade Azeroth en masse, bringing with them enough l33t-speak to drown out every other sound in the Barrens for the next 3 months, and draining their parent's bank accounts while eschewing the normal teenage substance indulgences for a diet of Mountain Dew & Skittles. Ah, to be young again...How has your summer in WoW been going so far? Have you noticed an influx of youngsters calling you a 'noob'? For you students, do you plan to spend more time in the real world this summer, or grinding for rank in the Battlegrounds? Parents, would you rather your kids be playing video games rather than out getting into mischief? Because, god forbid they should pick up a baseball bat & glove & actually do something. Anyway, let us know how you feel...
Thanks to reader Bryan for the summery comments.

So far, our high end raid guild has found the opposite problem from what you have described. Many of our younger members are getting summer jobs or going on vacation and are making much larger holes in our raiding teams. Perhaps I'm missing what you describe because all I experience of the Barrens is that mindnumbing 4 minute flight over it, during which I am usually rumaging through the fridge.

I've seen an increase in beggars. So, what I do is open a trade window, put in 100g, and go make myself some dinner. Maybe watch some Deal or No Deal, or wait for the MC/BWL/AQ raid to begin.
One time I've even gone as far as to say that "my trade window is bugged or lagged. I'll meet you in Darnassus where theres less lag." Then, once there, I would tell them its still bugged and they would need to log off and log on. I would do that, switching from city to city until they got the point.

I feel sorry for the inhabitants of Goldshire.... So far everything has been ok on Scarlet Crusade, but I know a lot of schools aren't done for another week or 2. That'll be when the fun really starts.

I'm most concerned with pvp rank. I'm a college student, taking summer classes, so I can get some extra credits, but with all the kids out of school, I bet trying to get a higher rank is going to be a pain. Oh well, only time will tell

I've noticed two negative effects of the influx. They're both related to laziness:
1) As noted in #3, the increase of beggars. In Org the other night, there was some lvl 8 guy yelling about how he NEEDED 6g. Not only are they deadbeats, they're brazen deadbeats.
2) In the LFG channel, there's been a lot more "Looking for high levels to run me through RFC/WC/SM, etc..."
Seeing more and more of this, my question to these types of players is "Why are you playing this game if you don't want to WORK for it?" Is this a sad commentary on the laziness of the youth of today or just the case of a few bad apples?
When I was playing MUDs back in the early 90s, you never saw people begging for things, but those were simpler times...

My exams are next week, and it hurts - HURTS - to not be playing right now.
