The Scourge Invades!
When I first flew into Stormwind yesterday, I thought there was something wrong with my monitor. A thick, choking haze filled the air, and a group of mysterious soldiers had set up camp in town and were spreading disturbing news. The Scourge has invaded Azeroth, and all able-bodies have been called to her defense. The invaders chosen method of conquest is by the use of an armada of flying necropolis'. Yes, it's an odd concept, and no, I have no idea how they make cities fly, much less dead ones, but I saw it with my own eyes, so take my word for it...these things are huge.
Swarms of powerful undead have flooded the Plaguelands, Azshara & other areas, gaining their power from mysterious obelisks scattered throughout the land. Horde & Alliance could be seen fighting side-by-side against the unholy legions, trying to destroy the crystals. Who knows how long the combined forces of both factions will be able to stave off the invaders...but it's been pretty freakin' cool so far.
Have you heeded the call to arms against the Scourge? Seen anything interesting during the event so far? Let us know...

There have been some high level elite Undead rampant through out Stormwind. They are passive until attacked, and they are creepy. I wonder how long this whole thing will last. If i'm level 60 by then (27 Now) I could easily help fight off the Scourge.

I was in Stormwind last night and about 30-40 of us were in a 20-min battle with a Level 60 Elite (can't remember his name, but he was huge) plus his 54 Elite minions. The Lvl 60 kept enchanting fear on us.
When we finally took him down, a crystal appeared in his place that gave you a quest to claim your prize - a lvl 50 sharpening stone or lvl 50 potion of some sort.

From what I've read and seen about this scourge invasion, I'm very dissapointed. It appears (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the invasion comes in two flavors: an expansive world spanning attack for lvls 55-60 to fight, and some mild skirmishes for lvls 5-10 to fight.
So unless I've missed something, there's a huge portion of the population (lvls 10-55) that really won't be able to participate in or experience this world event. In this way I'm a little frustrated with this, as I have no way to truly participate in this new and potentially exciting portion of the game.

Lots of fights have already happened on my server (Eitrigg) along with tons of rep-farming guilds. My hearth is set to wintersprings due to my unfailing desire of the Wintersaber mount, and I had notice that Wintersprings currently was under attack by 2 necropolis'. So I hearthed and ran around like a crazy idiot for about 20 min looking for this thing.. until I saw a massive amount of about 60-80 horde (I'm alliance) smacking the crap out of these things, seemingly only consisting of 2 guilds. So in my brave mail armor I ran into battle. To much of my own bravery, I was able to tag and kill at least 8-10 of the non-elite scourge, and I downed 1 of the elite scourge. Whenever I didn't have a tag, I helped the horde, and they occasionally /wave'd, /bow'd, /thank'd me, so when I had tagged the elite, they tanked and healed for me. They got the other elites, so they were happy. Unforunately, some rogue rare BoP dropped from it that wasn't useful, but shards are always nice. I also got 30 runes and 50 rep, so I'd have to say it was a pretty fun experience.
Note to all people fighting Necro's in WS, watch out for the blue elite dragons.. they're all over where this thing spawns the scourges.

On our PVP server, there are battles for control over the invasion points. Cooperation barely exists.
Dr. Woo Jun 21st 2006 10:35AM
My server is the same as Dahlaine's.
Being lv 52 (though I could always log on my 60 warrior for some fun), I can only offer so much, but I was the highest level fighting off Undercity invaders yesterday. The lowbie priests were expending all of their mana trying to keep me alive.

I logged in yesterday and I was running around the Under City and there was a level 60 elite undead taking down anything in its path. The guards started began taking him down along with all of the level 60's in UC at the time. Once taken down an obelisk popped up giving everyone who had helped a quest. It was a turn in quest that gave you a choice to choose from two items that gave you + damage against the Undead for an hour. It also gave rep for the Argent Dawn which is good.

I really wanna kill some scourge... but I'm only lv33. What's a poor mage to do??

I was also out in Winterspring on Eitrigg. I was tanking some of the elites while a couple of guildies helped heal. We would've been outmatched, but an Alliance mage and warrior came along to help out. After we killed 3 of the elites, we let them tag one and then I took over tanking again.
Took a break for a while and came back to find the exact opposite happening. Massive amounts of alliance trying to take our kills, etc. No cooperation. Still had a lot of fun, though I've got 30 something runes leftover after getting my AD tabard and the plate gloves.

So what are invasion points and what are they good for? Also once you make one of those crystals disappear do they come back? Do we need to kill enough crystals to make something else happen? Is this all on some website and I am not seeing it? Also are those runes good for anything but the quest turn-in and summoning more elite shadows?

they will prolly add more scourge over the coming time. still such events are simply never much fun in wow.

I'm on a PvE server, so there's no Alli vs. Horde fighting going on, actually the only fighting I've seen was spawn points literally taken over by a single guild for their own rep farming; at other points, it's been nothing but kill stealing by members of your own faction (I play Alliance), as soon as you move towards a target, a mage or hunter will tag it, and a warrior will charge in (nice if you play one of these classes, but on my rogue that's nearly impossible). It's frustrating, but I found out you shouldn't bother with zones in the Eastern Kingdoms, too close to 2 major Alliance cities. Azshara on my server is literally deserted, I've all the kills I've desired there.

Yeah... this really ticks me off. All of my characters are levels 20 to the low 40's. So... I get to do JACK.
I think there needs to be a WoW Insider story regarding this point specifically. Cause it's really inexcusable in my opinion. There are literally hundreds of thousands of people that can do nothing but sit by the sidelines and watch.
Of course, if this event is evolving and mid-level content on the way, I will vehemently deny all knowledge or responsiblility for this post. :-P
