I had a priest that I sort of let atrophy on a PvP server. But after watching my brother play his priest, I rolled a new one on PvE. What made it fun was having a "leveling" build until you hit 40, then at 40 respec for Shadowform.
If you want to train to play a Shadow Priest, just play a mage, they are very similar.
And as an aside, I'm surprised you were able to group as a Shadow Priest. Most groups, and many raiding guilds, require Holy spec or they won't take you.
