WoW Coming to the Philippines Soon
In the next step in their plan for world domination, INQ7.net reports today that the Philippines is the latest market being targeted by Vivendi/Universal for expansion of the WoW franchise. Gerry Castro, vice president of Asian Media Development Group, the company that handles Vivendi/U's lisences in the Philippines, says "Yes, the game will be in the Philippines soon; that we've been planning to bring this game to the country; that we have looked to several IDCs that will host the game"
AMDG is currently seeking partners to assist in hosting, supporting, and maintaining the game within the country, and claims that a "massive plan" is underway to bring WoW to the Philippines with a vengeance. No word on whether players from any other parts of the world will be able to access the Philippino servers, but seeing as it will be a self-contained entity of sorts, it seems unlikely> In any case, chalk up one more X on the big world map for Blizzard...

Flippin' sweet! I was there for 6 weeks this year and was disappointed they didn't know what World of Warcraft is (only Warcraft they know is the DOTA map for War3). I visit there every year... going again next year! So yes, this is great news for a WoWer like me... and I can finally show my gamer relatives there what they're missing out on =)

This was said by AMDG a couple of years ago and nothing happened then. If it does come here, I'm concerned about who will be managing the game. Blizzard is doing a good job now of banning hackers, botters, etc.; I fear that this will not be the case once it comes here. I also question the infrastructure of the company that will manage this game. Can you give us 3ms latency since it will be hosted here?

I would think all the peeps who wanted to play the game here in the Philippines have played the game already, considering the current availability at local stores.
A majority of online games available in the country have freely-distributed clients and the most expensive monthly subscription rates are half of that of WoW. AMDG has a lot of work to do. I won't be surprised if this doesn't push through at all.
And I have read this news since early last year. So meh.

If you check the URL where you got your source at Inquirer.net it has:
http://you.inq7.net/gear/08172004/tec2-1.htm
which means this news was from AUGUST 17, 2004.
I have read this news a couple of years ago.
Old news.
Oh and Blizzard denied AMDG the rights to WoW.
Filipinos can already play on US Servers. Why make WoW-Philippines when only a minority of players here can afford the retail price let alone the subscription of WoW?

A friend of mine pointed this out to me. Check the article date.

it would make more sense to create servers for the rest of the asian area, not for one, not too big, country.

The main problem with that would be the language barrier. Even Singapore connects to the US servers and not the much nearer Chinese servers.
