Patch 1.12: Rogue Review Revisited

CM Drysc has updated us with additional news of the rogue review - including some substantial changes. The talent calculator has been updated to reflect these new changes, and presents rogues with some interesting new opportunities in the subtlety tree.
The changes are as follows:
- Murder has been changed to increase damage caused against Humanoid, Giant, Beast, and Dragonkin by 1%/2%.
- Remorseless Attacks has been reduced to 2 ranks, with the new effectiveness being 20% and 40%.
- Endurance has been changed to reduce the cooldown of your Sprint and Evasion abilities by 45 sec/1.5 min. It no longer increases the duration of Evasion.
- Weapon Expertise will now increases your skill with Fist, Dagger, and Sword weapons. It will no longer affect Maces.
- Mace Specialization will now also add 1-5 weapon skill with Maces, in addition to the stun effect the talent already provides.
- Adrenaline Rush now has a reduced cooldown of 5 min.
- Elusiveness has been reduced to a 2 point talent and now reduces the cooldown of Vanish and Blind by 45 sec/1.5 min. It no longer reduces the cooldown for Evasion.
- Opportunity is being moved to a tier 1 talent, swapping places with Camouflage.
- Ghostly Strike has been reverted back to the previous 125% weapon damage, but retains its new Energy cost of 40.
- Setup will now also provide combo points if you fully resist an attackers spell.
- Improved Rupture, Improved Cheap Shot, and Improved Garrote have been removed.
- New talent 'Serrated Blades' is a tier 4 talent in the Subtlety tree, causes your attacks to ignore X of your targets Armor, and increases the damage dealt by your Rupture ability. The amount of Armor reduced increases with your level. At level 60, the ranks will reduce target Armor by 100/200/300 respectively.
- New talent 'Dirty Deeds' replaces the Improved Cheap Shot talent, reducing the Energy cost of both the Cheap Shot and Garrote abilities by 10/20.
- Garrote, Eviscerate, and Rupture now all scale with Attack Power. (For the druids in the audience, Drysc has confirmed that the druid's cat form abilities ferocious bite and rip will also scale in this way come patch day.)

It looks like this patch is only for rogues :)
Tigraine Jul 14th 2006 6:57AM
This is still not what we where all looking for.
Although Dagger rogues have now freed up 5 points... it still has that tri-spec thing you NEED to be a dagger rogue, no matter what you are trying to do with it.
And still, I think they didn't change anything for the Combat Sword Rogue. Still the Assassination tree hasn't got any love at all .. Imperative Talents are still there with a cost of 5 points.
If you look at the mage changes that freed them up 16 points from the arcane tree that were imperative, I would like to know why we rogues should still be forced to skill 16 points in Assassination to dish out any damage.

Assasination is nice but seeing somene say you Need 16 points into assasination for dmg? WTF you are nuts or havnt tried other talents out.
I did plenty of dammage as a Combat rogue using swords ...and mace spec.... Im presently dagger because combat was nerfed with the Formula patch 9 months ago.
But to say you need 16 in assasination? Cold Blood isnt gona make or break you...seriously...and witout cold blood ready ive done plenty of dammage without it. Two shotting 60 mages with full health.
have yah looked at the tree closely...half the crap sux in that tree to reach CB is a waste of points seeing the new talents....
Im very happy I will have Hemo and serrated blade ontop of expose armor.....It will make PVE better adding ontop of 5 sunders a 5 point expose armor..Hemorage and serrated blades destroying there defenses.
On the pvp side...Imp sprint senses and deadliness with the improved rupture will make my hunter and frost mage killing easyer now.
Cold Blood is nice...but its not all that.

They upgraded cat druids too, they just kept that on the low down ^^

I believe when people are talking about needing 16 points in assassination, they aren't refering to cold blood (which is a bit higher in the tree), but the talents malice (+5% crit) and lethality (+30% crit damage). Most builds tack relentless strikes on top of that for energy generation (a 20% chance per combo point to restore 25 energy). Malice and lethality may not be "required" to be a rogue, they do make for an extremely nice boost that you'll have trouble matching elsewhere.
Cava Jul 14th 2006 3:38PM
The lethality is only an increase to Critical hits though....so its only effective bonus when you crit.
I dont see it a necessary talent nor only talent line to increase dmg output.
Deadliness I think overall is better overall 10% increase to att power which applies to all attacks not just crits....Why worry about energy gain when it doesnt go off enough (to me it doesnt) when you have setup and senses to rack up the Combo points without losing energy trying to build it up.
ANd if energy is an issue Thistle Tea!! =p not enough rogues use it....they should.
But rogue builds varry so much depending on pvp or pve preferences and fighting style. There is no one build.
I just totally disagree on the comment on "Needing" assasination tree.

for any rogue going as far as 26 points into the combat tree the whole Sublety shit that MAY compensate the tier 1-3 talents in Assasination is not reachable any more.. .. so .. where should I take deadliness from when I don't have any free points?
Ok .. and for the other thing .. why in the heck should I ever skill deadliness.. My current DPS with running SnD is about 211 on the mainhand .. now.. 5% crit more are 5% more dmg I deal on white dmg (let's leave glancing out for this calculation) .. my raidbuffed Attackpower is at 1500 - 1600 .. Deadliness would give me 150 attackpower .. That's 11,4 dps ... 5% more Crit give me 10,55 only on my Mainhand, now count in another 5 dps from the offhand and you have outdamaged deadliness.. not the mention that 2 more points add Murder .. another 2% more dps.. ! and don't argue with me that your backstab will deal more dmg.. My Lethality has 30% more dmg than without points in assassination .. so .. no attackpower in the world will change that stuff.
The only real big deal I see in the current talent review is getting Adrenaline Rush for combat dagger rogues together with weapon expertise..
Though the freeing of these 5 points still don't make that big change I wanted for the rogue..
Some more raid utility would be great (And now stop arguing that Hemo is doing the dmg for you. I have tested it and what I can dish out with a Combat Sword spec is far more than these 210 extra dmg + the hemo dmg the raid gets everytime I put hemo to the mob)
Still interesting.. With the new patch you could get hemo and swordspec.. maybe worth a try..

Sorry for the double-post..
I just wanted to make clear that I am talking about using the rogue as a DPS weapon in 10-25 minute raid encounters. I won't argue that the 16 points in Assassination aren't that necessary for a PvP or Farm-Rogue as they are for the Rogue trying to beat the life out of Mobs with >200k hp. But you can't fire Premeditation multiple times to somehow compensate the Combopoint and energy gains you get from Relentless Strikes and Ruthlessness. And in case you could ever use Setup in a Raid encounter you are probably dead because the one cleave you cought finished you off.(damn we are so fragile :()

Since my main is a rogue, this new patch seems awsome! However, none of the new talents seem to favor anything I usually use (any add-ons for ambush?). But who am I to say this? It's just my opinion... I agree with blog number six, really.

Does Serrated Blades affect white attacks as well as specials like backstab?
