Breakfast Topic: PvP in Patch 1.12
It's no secret that there are PvP changes coming in the next content patch. There are going to be new cross-realm battlegrounds, auto-joining battlegrounds groups, world PvP objectives, and it's been hinted that the honor system in general will be a bit more lenient (though there haven't been any specifics on this). I've never made serious attempts at achieving the game's highest PvP ranks, simply because I know its impossible for someone who can't dedicate more time than I have to the cause. However, this patch may encourage me to head to the battlegrounds - or perhaps Silithus and Eastern Plaguelands - a bit more often for some PvP action. Am I going to hit rank 14 sometime soon? I doubt it - but the changes to the system may make it where I'll enjoy spending more time accumulating honor than I have in the past. However, what about the rest of you - are the changes to the system encouraging you to spend more time in the battlegrounds, or driving you away?

I and many like me are hoping for a cumulative honor system. On my server, there are ZERO alli PvP guilds, but we have two dominating Horde Guilds. The problem is it's impossible to get past rank 11 or 12, unless you do it "their way." The next one up for HW sets the weekly cap, and if you break it, they make life and rank gain impossible for you, and everyone else. My wife got 150k honor and lost 40% of rank 7 one week. They say their systsem allows for more High Warlords, yet their's is the only guild who ever gets it anymore.
The rewards are cool, but the drama when one guild has it locked down is unbearable. The threats and server wide fallout is not too fun either. I hope this opens some possibilities. I just wish I'd been able to get exalted with AB way back. Noone plays AB:(

Well I quit not too long ago. But it might make me give them a try again when i come back after the expansion launches.
I never actually got into a battleground in the past, as on my server every time i tried to join I had to log off before the battleground ever actually started.
Maybe this change will add more players and games will actually begin before you have to log off.

Honestly I welcome the new changes. There have been so many times I've gotten into a BG, after waiting hours and hours, and some of the high ranked a-hole's have decided that they don't want to group up in order to share the HK and honor. It'll be nice to be auto-grouped and even nicer to not have to wait forever.
I can't wait.

Autogroup is surely the one thing that could make me go back in a BG :)

As a healer, I'm looking forward to the auto raid. I cannot recall how many times the small private party of Rank 11+ characters would ask for healing when we got to Drek in AV. This will simply make the overall run a bit more fair in the honor department for everyone who contributes to the run.
However, the changes to AV in 1.11 (or the influx of summertime players) has driven me away from it for the time being. I used to enjoy grand battles, not whatever the current state of AV is called.

I habve read comments about a serious imbalance in the BGs Horde way overpowering Alliance and all. but until yesterday had not seen it.
I have characters from both Alliance and Horde (on different servers) and yesterday I went into Warsong for the first time on a PVP server.
I was partied with a friend of mine that I had finally convinced to try the BG and OMG the wait. 45 minutes!!
I had never experienced anything like it. then when we got it... it was a massacre. there were 5 Alliance lvl 20-23 and 12 Horde the only ones I saw were lvl 27 and higher. One Horde Mage (lvl 29) camped the graveyard and it was all over in about 10 minutes.
I really hope that the cross server BG (not to mention class adjustments coming) will help to balance the power.
I have played both sides of the "Horde/Alliance" fence in Battlegrounds that were balanced. They were long fights that were often give and take over who was leading the day. AND very fun!

I'm not PvPing in the battlegrounds until there's a stock-gear BG. I'm so goddamned tired of talentless twinks in every level of the BG system, seeing level 19s dual-wielding crusader-enchanted blues and such. If it's really about skill, add a battleground where everyone's in similar, uniform gear.
Smithra Jul 25th 2006 5:19PM
obo, I don't expect to see you in BGs ever.
Yeah, equipment is important. Yes, people abuse this fact. Unfortunately, equipment is one of the main points of customization for a character. If you're playing with someone else's pre-selected equipment, why not pre-rendered characters? I can just pick up a lvl 19 undead rogue, assign a few talent points and go to town. Would a game like that be fair and fun? Surely. Would it give you a chance to show off all items, potions, etc. you've collected in your hundreds of hours of gameplay? Nope...and that's really what MMOs are all about. What you're asking for is more likely to be released as a twist on an FPS rather than a feature in an MMORPG.

Gertris,
I dont join raids in AV cause im not sharing my HK's. You cry about it but what the F**k did you do to earn that kill? Nothing most likely.
Im a rogue. I dont like to share my HK's because #1 im in the back of the enemy clusters...out of range of any support from healers or ranged people to assist. #2 I earned that kill I snuck in...I took him out NOT YOU.
Go buy some skill and earn your own Nub.

People like Cava need to stick to Diablo...It's an MMO for a reason, there's PEOPLE in the game and it's supposed to be a social environment. If you don't play as a team, you ALL die as a team, not just the guy who allegedly gets the most HKs. I look forward to the battleground changes b/c I hope it'll tone the queue time down a little and autogrouping is nice idea for healers and dps players who want to keep track of their teammates.
It's just a game. If someone "steals" your HKs, so what?
PsyClerk Jul 25th 2006 10:47PM
And that attitude is why I don't play BGs at all.
Tigraine Jul 26th 2006 5:51AM
@Cava ... lovely ;)
I think you didn't really understand the point in the game didn't you?
As playing a Rogue myself, I know what you can do and what not. And killing Priests of the Main Zerg is simply not possible if there is no Suppport from your Zerg to keep them busy. If you go out all alone, the only thing you'll find are some lonely ppl who are of no importance to the battle. They may join their fellow comrades in battle, but killing them just took you 20 seconds of precious time you should better have spent in the back of the enemy, supporting your group by taking out / immobilizing healers so they can achieve an objective, not one damn single HK you got when you killed that one lonely guy who was running around.
Ever thought about the contribution of the BG win-honor bonus? You can't win a BG alone, others do that for you while you are running around thinking of how great a rogue you are while you simply don't contribute to anything cause you are going after ppl far away from zergs (If it is like you said, that nobody from the Zerg ever contributes to your kill) .. Would love to see you take down the flag bearer while 9 other ppl beat the shit out of you, FN, HS, FF, HM .. you're damn done as a rogue as long as there is no group that contributes to your kills by distracting the enemy!
greetings Tig

Cava is exactly the type of BG player that absolutely pisses off most BG players. You know those types, the one who just goes out and do things on and not help the team to the what the goal is of the BG: TO WIN!!!
I absolutely hate folks like that who just go into the BG to farm HK. I guess these n00bs don't know that you get a lot more honor points when your team actually wins.
joerendous Jul 26th 2006 10:26AM
cheers Tig! as a frontline holy specced priest trudging forward with the rest of the melee troops it's totally refreshing to see that the support soldiers are appreciated, albeit implied. i don't kill, i preserve the ranks. currently, i play bg's to maintain and build on my healing skills but realize that i'm only helping others gain honor and rank. with this new patch, at least i know i'll be rewarded for helping a comrade move up the ladder and hopefully winning a bg.
as for post #9, your welcome. i'm more than glad to know that by helping to prolong the zerg, i was helping you get your precious HKs. after patch 1.12 goes live, i'll thank you for the honor in return.
stapleboy Jul 26th 2006 11:24AM
@ obo -
I think that's a great idea. My friends and I have talked about it before, and once cross-server battlegrounds are implemented it could work. Actually, it might be cool for one or two of the expansion BGs based on "historic" battles.. Southshore vs. Tarren Mill, with stylized sets for each side to pick from.
I'd be surprised if we ever saw a stock gear BG where every class had a few predetermined outfits, but the matching system in 1.12 will hopefully limit the number of times a normal player will come across the twink losers on a given weekend anyway. Not to mention the improvements we'll see from Blizz limiting Join as Group.
Cava Jul 27th 2006 5:43PM
Yep your pissed off cause im getting 200 hk to 250 hk a kill. If done by myself ofcourse.
Ive ran raid and ran without and went as far as looking at my averages with raid and 1 hour in av and without raid another day and 1 hour of av.
I came out with MORE hk being outside the raid. Ofcourse I have to bust my ass to get it. WHich means crawling to the back line and to be totally on my own stabing healers and mages.
Hate it all you want. I dont believe I should have to share a damn thing you DIDNT help me with.
Cava Jul 27th 2006 5:53PM
@tigraine
Stop putting words in my mouth first of all. Im not sitting here boasting im the greatest rogue in the world. So stuff it.
I dont go after straglers far from the main zerg (as you ASSume) I do very well thank you in the pack of alliance. Ill get in dead center and drop a priest. Before the others figure out wtf is going on ..priests dead but so am I...but I gotem.
And this patter I do Very often. Im in the thick of it...or in the back of the zerg pack vs front line.
Back of zerg pack isnt fricking 2 miles away going after afkers at GY or flags. Stop being so foolish.
There are exceptions out there and Im absolutely sure im one of them who do farm Hk much better without sharing it with 39 other folks.
I contribute as much as the next guy grouped or not. Im doing my Job as a rogue...assasination of squishys in the zergs. Killing a healer shuts down the MS spec arcanite reaper boy on the front line mowing down our boys.
Tell me exactly how the raid helps me when im nowhere near getting a heal or support 99% of the time? You cant heal me im behind the pack or in the center of it....how are you gona support nuke ...moving in any further makes you a target for 20 hunters (exageration more like 6).
You guys are great at being smart asses but sure cant see that Grouping doesnt work for every person.
And dont give me that teamwork crap...AV is mostly follow the herd like stupid sheep and kill whats red...this isnt WSG or AB where you teamwork is critical and can turn the tides in seconds.
Fyi im not the best rogue. But I always rank in top 5 killers in AV for horde. SO I am doing something right. And doing my damn job as a rogue. Nubs
Cava Jul 27th 2006 6:03PM
@nubs in here
Maybe you need to consider there is other BG's ...you guys are bitching about WSG soloers ....Im not supporting them at all.
Maybe if you take your own smart ass advise you keep giving me and read thoroughly im talking about "Raid" which means 40 man bg's not this 10 man crap.
I fully completely and etirely agree things like WSG and AB must have grouping period...teamwork there is more likely plausible and possible and is critical to the win. Where is our disagreement?
My fricking problem is with the blanket change that forces me to be in the stupid ALTERAC party....There is a huge difference in AV vs WSG. In AV im bitching about being forced to share HK's with 39 mindless sheep.
That is my issue. Being forced to take 30hk that I did all the work on vs getting the full 200-250hk for the kill in ALTERAC ...the arguement im having is about ALTERAC...NOT WSG ....is that clear yet? or do i need to spam this column with preschool terminology so you can comprehend?
Lock Jul 27th 2006 10:51PM
If you wanted to be taken seriously Cava, i'd stop calling people nubs. It was an insult getting old 10 years ago... only children and losers still use it.
