New EU PvE Realm This Week
A new EU PvE realm is set to launch this Friday under the name Lightbringer, to deal with growing PvE server populations. Look for its realm forum to show up "soon." I'm a big fan of new servers - for that short but blissful period of time where you play without farmers, twinks, or infighting amongst high-end guilds. Of course, all of these things come soon enough, and the new servers become exactly like the old. However, with Blizzard EU's unique take on server transfers, you may have a better chance at hanging on to that "new server" feeling than those of us on the other side of the ocean. Well, all I can say is that the US has to wait 6 months for AQ but then again our (EU) transfer costs are a whopping £15 ($28) per character! US charge is what? $12? I'll be £150 ($280) worse off to transfer out of Bloodhoof
Personally I think it's a blinking cheek that we have to pay to transfer characters at all. By the time I've played WoW for a year I will have spent £251 ($470). This is more than 10 times what I would pay for any other game.
When you think about it who REALLY benefits from server transfers?
Players get:
1. Less queues and lag issues (notice I don't say crashes as alot of crashes are purposefully player induced)
2. A £15 smack in the face per character
Blizz gets:
1. £15/player character for doing relatively little (come on! you can't tell me they haven't go a natty program subroutine that minimises the Dev time?)
2. Less technical issues because of high player populations.
3. Less DM time and fewer dms per server
4. to use lower-end machines to host realms for longer
I say it's in Blizz's interest to transfer characters so it should be FOC.

It actually costs US players $25 per character transfer.

Oops soz. $12 was the price they were quoting when they announced that they might be doing transfers. Sounds like it got bumped up.
