Warlock's Life Tap in Patch 1.12
This afternoon Tseric posted a surprise in the warlock forums - the the functionality of the skill life tap (which converts health into mana) will be changing in the next patch - to be modified by +spell damage gear. Rank 3 and higher of the spell will now benefit from 80% of your spell damage gear (it's unclear as to whether it will benefit only from +spell damage, or whether it will benefit from +shadow damage), meaning it will both give more mana and take more health. As a warlock myself, this will take a bit of getting used to, as a loss of 400-ish health (which is spammable when necessary) becomes a loss nearly twice that - ouch! However, the reaction on the warlock is overwhelmingly positive (aside from the occasional query "But what about Dark Pact?").Filed under: Warlock, Patches, News items

Yes, Shadow Damage does effect it.

I could see how this would take some getting used to, especially if you typically only use LifeTap when you get stuck in melee after your minion loses aggro. A lot of good full mana will bring when you are DEAD, haha.
I thought I had read something about SS cost for summoning minions... if the minion does not actually die from combat, you would receive the SS back upon dismissal? I was looking forward to flights that don't cost me a SS when I have my VW (or any other min.) out, but I noticed that when the VW goes away after I take off, there is no SS replaced in my bag. Did I just completely take the patch comments the wrong way? If somebody knows how this is supposed to work, please fill me in!

Wasn't there also supposed to be a change with the patch in which SS "penalties" for minions were limited to death? I assumed this meant that I could hop on a gryphon and when my minion goes away, that SS would drop right back into my bag - I guess that's not the case. Was I smoking crack when I read that, or did I completely misunderstand?
