Breakfast Topic: Pick a Realm, Any Realm...

This post about selecting a realm to play on caught my attention, as I recently find myself in a similar predicament. After playing many months on one realm, the guild I've been in has started breaking up - with several of my friends giving up on the game - and I'm left wondering what to do next. The existing guilds on my realm hold little interest for me and the Horde population there is sufficiently small as to make establishing a new guild a difficult or impossible endeavor. So I'm faced with the thought of starting anew. Should I re-roll on another realm? Transfer to another realm? And, regardless of which one I might decide, I'm faced with the ominous decision of which realm to pick. So, how does one choose the perfect realm - or is there such a thing? What do you look for when deciding to start afresh in Azeroth?

I've been looking for a server to play when I'm not raiding, and was preferred a PvP server. When The Venture Co. (RPPVP) opened up, I tried my luck there, and was able to stay roughly 1/2 levels behind the top person, but I thought I would never be any use seeing that I raided every night for 4~ hours or so. I'd never be able to raid on a different server. It would be nice if my server was EST :( But the fact that I'm in such a great guild has kind of made me not really care that it is 1 hour behind me, though I see myself up at 1AM sometimes finishing up the last bosses...

I just recently moved two of my top characters from RPPvP realms to Elune. Sure it's an old server, and I gave up the PvP - but I have some friends in an Alliance casual raiding guild that just started trying to create a Horde version. I just hit 30/31 with these two characters and my current casual work-group guilds just didn't have enough people, activity, or willingness to help me through farming quest items or escorting through dangerous zones (both required for my Warlock quests). I was only ever defensive in PvP anyhow...someone picked on me, I turned around and kicked their ass (my favorite was when a rogue sapped me, so my succubus seduced him and we both sat there for 15 seconds unable to do anything - I then swiftly destroyed him). Anyhow, now I've got the support I need to advance through the last 30 levels, and ultimately start raiding.

I like restarting on fresh servers, personally. Something just feels good about it. There's something especially great about the 10-19 bracket of WSG on a brand new server, before all of the twinks move in.
