The Long Road to a Flying Mount

Abro from the Crushridge server has a great question: What's it going to take to get one o' them fancy flyin' mounts? Blue posts in the thread, but all they do is point us to the already-up preview site for the Nether Drakes. (In which, incidentally, I learned that we won't even be able to touch a flying mount until level 70!) But everyone, of course, has lots of guesses about what we'll have to do to take to the air.
First of all, you know it's going to cost money, and lots of it. A normal mount runs about 90g or so, and an epic mount runs 1,000g, so most people are guessing at 10,000g at least. But then again, it could be higher-- Blizzard is saying there's going to be a lot of content between 60 and 70, and they clearly want a flying mount to be the ultimate prestige item. So it's not unlikely that they'll probably require some sort of quest item as well-- although even Blizzard wouldn't be so heartless as to put the necessary item in a 40-man raid instance... would they?
There's more they can do to you. Lots of people are suggesting faction grinding, which seems really mean, but the video trailer does say it'll cost us "Quests, Reputation, Shopkeepers, or a combination of these three." At any rate, it sounds like it's going to be a long time before any of us lift off on a Nether Drake.

I say once I hit 70 it should be free. Why because we have been playing both games thats why. But I know its not going to be simple so why try because I have decided not to get the expansion and quit now before its too late. Watch them come up with a reason that you need to go back to all the instances and kill the bosses again and wait for a special item they all drop for you to get it. Thats blizzard for you. I say don't waste your time. All of this is to get you hyped up then wind up making you hate it. Just like everything they do.

So quit already and stop posting here so we can stop hearing how much you hate the game. There's still 6 million of us and rising that love it.

At one point they (blizz) had posted that the mount would cost 2000g but it seems they have since pulled that number from anything official. So who knows what it might be now.

Heh. First you have to get to 70th level. I enclose a quote from another thread....
"...and another thing - How much xp will it take to get from 60th lvl to 70th lvl??
Did you know that it takes as much xp to get from 50th lvl to 60th as it does to go from 1st lvl to 46th lvl??? (~1,780,000 xp)
Going on that basis then we can expect that you can expect that the total xp required will be around 6,600,000!!! That means you 60th level ppl will need another ~2,600,000xp to get to 70th!
Thats like going from 1st level to 52nd level! It's ALL about keeping you online and paying through the nose.
Can't wait!

To get from level 50-60 took me a little over a week. To get from 1-50 took a month. The thing you have to remember is it may cost a LOT of experience to level, but from 60-70 you will be getting a lot more experience per kill and per quest than you were 1-52 so they are not comparable at all.

I believe Blizzard has stated that it will take as much time to level from 60-70 as it did from 1-60.
And, as the article mentions, having a flying mount will be considered the "pinnacle" of the game. It's going to be a long, hard grind, and I would imagine it will be at least a month, if not longer, before we see mounts beginning to fly around - and that's for those playing 18 hours a day, 7 days a week.
For those of us that have jobs, families, friends and things to do outside the game - it's gonna be SEVERAL months.

I remember reading about content that could only be reached via a flying mount. I doubt they will make the cost too high.

I'll bet they keep an eye on those early mount-getters to see if they're buying gold on Ebay. I hope they catch them...

Yo f(fag)hornmikey what are you smoking. I doubt all 6 million subscribers love this game. Let me guess your a NightElf? Or anything affiliated with alliance. Figures. Let me break this down to you I there is about 1 million players in the U.S. alone, I dont think it exceeds 2 million. Now oversees like Asia whew the numbers are like 3- 4 million and all these guys use the subscribtions for is to farm and sell the accounts, because they want to profit from this. As for the rest theres mixed feelings. I say that people who dont complain are probably alliance because they get everything and thats why they outnumber us 3-1. Now tell me if you had everything wouldnt you love the game. I dont like alliance I like horde (not love). Now tell me why dont you use a horde character? But if you do I have no idea why your lashing out at me.

: Yo f(fag)hornmikey what are you smoking.
I don't run the board, but accuse Mikey of being a homosexual and a habitual smoker of any sort does not make me want to avoid visiting the board. And if nice people like me stop visiting the board.. There is no reason for the board to exist, so please pay careful attention to what I have to say next, or you might wish this portion of the internet into ethereal existence.
If Mikey is as you accuse, he does not need you to point it out. All Mikey seeming wanted to do was talk to people like minded like he is about Flying mounts... So please, don't make accusations. Its not nice, and angry, judgmental, people like me take the opportunity metaphorically beat you down with vary big words that require you to buy a dictionary, create a new email address, and take carefully precautions to not let your email address be spammed by a 1000 different gay porn, viagra, and gambling spam providers.
: I doubt all 6 million subscribers love this game.
I prefer to think of it as a love hate relationship, that 6 million addicts subject themselves too, but your entitled to your description.... "Oh man... I can stop sniffing the WoW CD! WTF is wrong with me!?"
: Let me guess your a NightElf? Or anything affiliated with alliance. Figures.
Yet another accusation... And this one makes so little sense, I don't know what your going to suggest next...
: Let me break this down to you I there is about 1 million players in the U.S. alone, I dont think it exceeds 2 million. Now oversees like Asia whew the numbers are like 3- 4 million and all these guys use the subscribtions for is to farm and sell the accounts, because they want to profit from this. Well, that's a... interesting breakdown... But I would of thought the break down would be a little more messy though... Like 1.6 million American play WoW...
So do you have proof of this, or is this much like my economic theories, which is all gut feeling that could be wrong or right?
http://www.wowinsider.com/2006/08/08/turning-gold-into-green/
And if you do have any proof of this, what is the point to this?
: Now tell me if you had everything wouldnt you love the game.
You mean like chess, checkers, and battleship... Don't get me wrong... (I like chess enough to bet WoW gold on winning...) but you don't get much happy end content in those game....
: I dont like alliance I like horde (not love). Now tell me why dont you use a horde character? But if you do I have no idea why your lashing out at me.
Seriously Mikey... Why are you lashing out this poor misguided Hordeling with your invisible rain of hate and malice again Horde players that hate everything about WoW? And your a Baaaaaad person, if you won't pledge allegiance to the horde... Hail Thrall, and everything that smells Like Cheese!
