Breakfast Topic: Pet Peeves
This thread in the general forums brings up a good discussion topic about everyone's in-game pet peeves. And note the definition - a minor annoyance that causes extreme frustration. I have a number of them, myself, including people who refer to me only as "priest," players who start yelling "HAEL ME!!!" the second they take damage, and the players who see me shadowforming in PvP and feel they need to lecture me on the worthlessness of a priest that doesn't heal. (The latter especially irritates me, as anyone who's played with me for a while should realize that, even with a shadow spec, I know how to shift out of shadowform, and if I wind up in a good group will spend entire AV matches healing. Argh! I get frustrated just thinking about it!) But what are your personal pet peeves in this game? Filed under: Odds and ends, Breakfast Topics

When I'm on my AH mule and want to get some serious buying/selling done...
1. Spam-chanters that repeatedly post their wall-of-text enchanting menu to the /2 channel
2. /2 channel mistells that evolve into long discussions on the trade channel

One thing:
The fact that every single low-level PUG instance you ever do will have a six-year-old paladin in cloth and leather, and as a hunter you and your pet combined will have triple his tanking ability, DPS, and intelligence.
Yes, I had a terrible night. No, it was not an isolated event.

The same as your pet peeve, but I'm a Shaman.

My main is a warlock, and I *hate* when random people I don't know ask for a summons or a healthstone. The worst case scenario was when a level 26 rogue asked if I could find 2 other people, fight though Uldaman to the enchanter trainer, and summon him to the trainer. I told him no, and then he wouldn't leave me alone.
I also don't like getting grouped up with kiddies i.e. high school age or lower. It's usually 14 year old guys that are so obnoxious that no one wants anything to do with them. Oi.

I'm stodgy. I'm ambivalent toward abbreviations, as they are rampant and sometimes inaccessible. But I will keel the next person to l33tspeak in group.

Ok, here goes:
1. Ppl more than 4 levels above me challenging me to duels - grrr
2. Ppl not in my party running up to my recently killed beast and skinning it when I'm still recovering
3. Ppl trying to mine the same deposit as me.
4. Ppl who don't buff you back
5. Ppl who agree looting rules then change them to suit themselves
6. Ppl not in my oarty who "help" me in combat when I'm clearly not in any difficulty.
7. Ppl who want to join ur party but you've already said "no" but they still follow you around taking kills whilst using your party for "safety" and clear passage.
8. Players with stoopid names like "Assmuncher" I mean, what's the point of even playing with a name like that?!?

My biggest pet peeve is people mocking roleplayers on a goddamn RP server. Why do they roll a char on an RP server if they hate RP?
Second-biggest pet peeve: people who can't write or refuse to type straight sentences. Again, I'm talking about RP servers. It's not IRC, so why are they insisting on typing "u come 2 ZF kthx"?
PodMonkeys Aug 9th 2006 9:39AM
- I second the disliking people 4+ levels above challenging for a duel.
- Having someone follow me, repeatedly chalenging for a duel.
- Having someone follow me, repeatedly inviting to group.
- Having someone follow me, repeatedly inviting me to join their guild.
I'm seeing a pattern here... Thank goodness for /ignore.
I especially hate people who run up and skin my kills. At least wait till I've moved away, or ask me first.

1. Lowbies randomly whispering me asking for gold. Not silver, but gold.
2. Killing a mob by a vein of ore, just to have someone run up and mine it as I try to make it safe so *I* can mine it.
3. A level 1 warrior asking me, a 45 pally to help them with quests.
4. People who freak out if they get attacked by a single mob and start screaming in chat for healing.
Tom Aug 9th 2006 10:01AM
People who deliberately train mobs on you just to get you out of the area so they can farm. Most egregious to date: the purple undead area outside the Deadmines instance. I've also had it happen at the altar of Jintha'Alor, the ogre area in Loch Modan, and various other non-instanced elite areas.

Hmm.. pet peeves.. I'm a level 60 Sword Rogue
1) Random people trading me lock boxes without asking me first. I have gone so far as to keep the box and it's contents when they are dumb enough to leave it in the trade area and click trade without talking to me first.
2) People telling me how useless a rogue is without backstab, ambush or imp sap.
3) Priests telling me to stunlock the mob the tank is tanking. No Rage = No Agro = Dead Cloth!
4) People using 1337$p3a|
Larawen Aug 9th 2006 10:23AM
1.People who open up a trade window and stick a lockbox in the "will not be traded" spot for me to open, without first asking me if I can open it. I don't even mind doing it for free, but that realy erks me.
2.People who PST me a price on a item that I'm trying to sell riducously under priced. E.G. "WTS Stormshroud Gloves" "Yasmface: I'll give you 5g for those."
Uthelm Aug 9th 2006 10:33AM
I am a level 60 Human Priest and it just eats me up when I hear that "Heal Me" or "Heal My Pet", while in combat. I don't heal pets in combat, it is ridiculous! Or Mages or Rogues who can't control their aggro and are going for as much DPS and crying when they die that I didn't heal them. My main focus is the MT and if they die because they are not adequately filling their roles, oh well. Let the tank do his job! We had a wipe in Scholo due to some ignorant pulls and a mage had the gall to say I owed him 2 gold because he died. I told him to try and collect it and let him die again when he jumped into melee and drew aggro all over himself.

I have NEVER had someone challenge me to a duel that wasn’t a minimum of 3 levels higher then me. The other day I was fishing off the docks in Ratchet, and a Hunter that was 14 levels higher challenged me to a duel. Seriously, didn’t your Daddy hug you enough when you were a child? I am not your punching bag! /mock.
Shaman’s who don’t use their totems… at all… in instances. The whole party is inflicted with disease in RFD, but you can’t click a single button?
People who go AFK in instances for lame reasons. Actual occurrence: “Sorry, my roommate wanted to take me for a ride in his new car.”, “Had to run to the store for cigarettes. They are so slow there!” I also had a Warlock that just had to train up new skills after he leveled – in the middle of a run. Are you that impatient that you can’t wait until after we’re done?
Hunters who do not control their pets. I have had more instance wipes from aggressive pets aggroing mobs then any other single source.
Rogues who think they are tanks. ‘Nuff said.
Yelling out for HEAL when you are at 75% health. I am watching. You are fine. I do not yell out TANK, now do I?
Ravven Aug 9th 2006 10:56AM
These have been covered above, but definitely:
1. People who skin my kills without waiting or asking
2. Lazy people asking for summons
3. People refusing to let you decline a duel
4. People who hide behind something and wait until I've cleared most of the mobs, then rush in to loot the chest while I'm taking on the last one
5. Blizzard, please make a global /idiotchat channel so all of the illiterates presently in LFG can go and chat in there, please, please, please...
Ghostle Aug 9th 2006 11:34AM
60 rogue
pet peeves:
1. The lockbox thing. I have 300 lockpicking and I will pick a lock for anyone, as long as they ask, but its annoying when I am at the AH, searching for deals, and when I am about to buy something, the AH window closes and I get a trade window in my face. Then when I go and check the AH for the item again, its gone.
2. Tanks that don't tank. I have a low level warrior, and I actually enjoy tanking, but when on UBRS runs, we bring 2 tannks, and one of them puts on a shield and the other one does with a 2h. It wouldnt be so bad if the 2h warrior actually hit something the shielded warrior was not tanking. I end up having to tank something (and waste my evasion) so the clothies dont pull aggro, all the while the 2h tank is still bashing away at a mob that he can't grab aggro from
3. People wanting me to sign their charter and won't leave me alone.
4. Idiots using the LFG channel to talk
Linda Aug 9th 2006 11:41AM
I know a lot of Mages are going to post about requests for food/water/ports, but here is the one that bugs me in post-60 life:
People who set their hearthstone to Silithus and EPL for rep farming and then rely on bugging Mages for free ports to get back to SW/IF. They add Mages they group with to their friends list only for the reason of getting free ports. As soon as I login I immediately get whispers in Silithus from previous PuGrs who want ports FOR FREE. /ignore
Liz Aug 9th 2006 11:48AM
What about the level 1-15 who ask you for gold and don't give up when you say no, and then insist on telling you it is for their main!
Mat Aug 9th 2006 12:12PM
When you're putting a PUG together to run an instance (the WHOLE instance) and someone says "we have to hurry, I have to leave soon"...
Then the following conversation takes place:
You: "Well, are you going to have enough time for the instance?"
noob: "I think so"
You: "How much time do you have"
noob: "I'm not sure"
Inevitably you kick the person from your group so he/she doesn't waste the parties time, only to get recieve the whisper "wtf ur such a fag i wuz going 2 help".
It's that kind of crap that motivated me to start playing on an RP server. At least if someone is being an idiot, it's because they're in character!
Crystavis Aug 9th 2006 12:14PM
1. People that join a group to run an instance, and after agreeing on what part you're running, get the item they came for and disappear half way through.
2. Tanks that tell a caster to aoe when they're only focusing on tanking one mob out of several - easy way to kill your clothies (and yes i play both a tank and casters so i know you can tank more than one mob at a time without much effort)
3. People who pull mobs while the healer is out of mana
4. People who try to tell a someone playing a different class what to do and insulting them. If you have a better idea, make a suggestion, don't show you're immaturism and try to cram your ideas down someone's throat. And it's even worse when the person tries the idea and it doesn't work, and then the one who suggests it insults them and leaves the group.
5. People who take the game way too seriously and drop out of a group after one wipe. Everyone makes mistakes, grow up.
6. And as a lock as well, i second the random summons. And how they get mad and insult you if you ask for a little compensation like 1 gold. Sure it doesn't cost us anything but a shard and our time, especially when finding 2 others to help summon can take some time, and that's exactly what i'm asking you to compensate for, our time.
7. And last of all, people who ask you for things with even a please or thank you afterwards.
