Breakfast Topic: Best/Worst Class to PvP Against
For myself, I can immediately say that I think the worst is the shadow priest. (Of course, I also play a shadow priest...) Perhaps it is simply because there are some especially wily shadow priests on my server, but they give me fits in battlegrounds. The best to PvP against - that is, the easiest to defeat - is more difficult to pick out. There are specific warriors that I have trouble with (charging, intercepting, breaking fear, striking for huge amounts of damage - and killing me in two or three hits), but others I find to be complete pushovers (quickly taken down in the course of a single psychic scream). Rogues are also hit and miss in my experience - if they don't manage to take me down from stealth, during that initial stun, I can almost always cope with them. All healing classes are annoying, due to their potential longevity (though paladins, of course, are the worst), and I have no strong feelings one way or another on the remaining classes. But what about you? In your experience PvP-ing, what's the best and worst class to find yourself up against?Filed under: PvP, Breakfast Topics

Locks are far more difficult to pvp against. I hate those bastards.

Well, it always depends on your class - Blizzard stated very early in development that classes would be balanced for group pvp, not 1v1 - but my opinions taking several classes I've played into consideration:
Hardest: Warriors
It's not that they're the most deadly class to pvp - or even that hard to kill - but they always have SO much HP that you're time is better spent taking down healers, DDs, CCs, etc. and THAT makes them a pain.
Easist: Druid
Unless they cat form like a proferssional rogue, their best asset is their longevity, and with sufficient stuns and teamwork just about any fleeing druid can be taken down.

I'd say locks in first, since they're on both sides, just run through AV dotting or 2 shot-shadow bolt. 2nd is paladins (I'm an alliance player), because they're so ridiculously a pain in the butt, you simply can't kill them, especially in they're protection speced. And 3rd I would say Druid because they can tank, they can sneak, and they can heal, whenever they feel like it. Quite annoying to deal with.

1. Locks - since fear can't be broken by damage, you get feared, and by the time fear is over you have 23 dots on you... and of course, you can be feared again...
2. Rogues - a well played rogue is unstoppable, can keep you stunned for the entire duration of the battle and tear you to shreds
3. Shammies - they just annoy the crap out of me all around

As a hunter, I would say the hardest for me is Warriors and Shamans with shields simply because all my attacks are subject to armor mitigation. Also Hamstring sucks...its like 15 seconds and doesn't seem to have diminishing returns AT ALL!
The easiest is most definitely rogues. As a dwarf I can use stoneform to remove crippling poison...scatter shot, trap.... owned. Only the very best of rogues (read: epic'd to hell) can get me.
Priests are very annoying to kill but all you gotta do is keep viper sting on them until they are sitting ducks.

From a warlock's point of view, hunters are a hassle for me. Especially if they're BM specced and they handle their pet well.
On the other hand, I looove fighting solo paladins. You got to do a little work for your HK but there's comparitively little risk. Most of the ones I run across are protection specced so they take forever to drop but can't do much to retaliate. It's hilarious. None of them seem to know how to run away or get someone else.
I sent my Felhunter after one while I took care of another guy in WSG once. Well, I forgot about it and two or three guys later, I was wondering where my Felhunter went. After a little looking around, I found them in the corner of their base going at it in melee. Tainted Blood reduced his damage to all but a trickle and that kept getting healed as the Felhunter ate his blessings. It was pretty funny.
Oh and mages. No self-respecting warlock should lose to a mage within ten levels.

On my hunter warriors give me the most trouble only when they charge before i have a trap down, there damage destroys me and unless my trinkets cooled down and my FD and my scatter shot i cant do much but hope imp wing clip procs. any other class is easy cakes.
On my druid however i find the most trouble in...well... epic'd out warriors. i cant destroy them in cat form fast enough and i dont have stuns to back me up... i can survive in bear form untill they out damage me by a billion and once my roots runs out they intercept stun and hamstring and all i can do is run... the next hardest class would be warlocks... not really cause there hard but fear spam and dots render me useless and bored as the dots take forever to get to me in bear form. easiest class is pallah. with 30% movemeent speed in cat form i just DOT them and keep feral farie fire up so they dispell that first and not the dots. =)

from the warrior point view... I HATE Mages.. all mages.. Fire mages Ice Mages!! grrr. I have probs with Full Epic Shadows and Locks... and LOVE killing Pallies solo, holy's are easy as well. normaly a 1 or 2 pot kill. unless there realy good. pearcinghowl reduces there attack speed by half. and a demoralizing shown lowers there allready low attack rating by 241 and who's up for some pally for lunch?

Personally, as a warlock, I find the situation to be one of the two biggest contributing factors. If I am in a group I can cause havoc to the other side by DOT everyone I can get my hands on. Granted, the damage is effective only when the DOT has time to run it's course and the target does not get healed, but I can keep the healer on the opposing side constantly busy just trying to counteract what I am doing. In a number of instance I have outlasted him on mana and that is where the damage really starts to be noticeable. In a one-on-one battle, however, if the opposing player knows what he is doing I never last that long and that is because of how I am specced, which is the other contributor.
I am pretty much a PvE spec. As a result, in a PvP situation there are a number of things that I don't have, that would come in handy. My Fear takes too long to cast and as a result a Warrior who charges and stuns me will almost always kill me.
The one caveat to this is Rogues. Most rogues are chicken and hide behind their invisibility. If I can spot the rogue before he gets his first attack off I have always won as they seem to feel that running away is the solution. Distance attacks bring them to their knees before they can do anything.

As a shadow priest I find other shadow priests with better gear and warlocks to be my only issues. Ocassionally really good Shaman's are a problem (especially their amzing ability to practically instant heal half their life, and rediculous amount of chain lightning damage). Warlocks with Felhunter out drive me absolutely nuts.
syu Aug 16th 2006 3:14PM
priests
epic priests
unless you can smack them for 5000hp its pretty much gg because they dont ever run out of mana. EVER.
i play a druid and warriors are usually cake. locks however are quite painful
Demonitus Aug 16th 2006 4:30PM
As a mage warriors are cake. My favorite trick is to CS them before the fight so it removes there ability to charge and Level 1 Frostbolt them to death. Rogues and hunters (if I get them in melee range) are no problemo either. By far the worst are Warlocks (I run) and paladins are just plain annoying. I go through 2 mana bars to beat those bubbling bastards.
monkeywraith Aug 16th 2006 6:15PM
as a frost mage, rogues are easiest and warriors second. i can spam first level arcane explosion to reveal them, and if they get through blink cancels stun effects. warriors made it to second simply because of charge and more stamina. slow them down and kite them, they drop like flys, and ice barrier absorbs what few hits i take from them. i would have to say hardest for me are locks because i cant do much to deal with their pets.
Finnicks Daerkhiv Aug 16th 2006 6:45PM
I agree with #5 on the Paladins. They are easily the most difficult class to kill with a Warlock. However, like he said, it isn't that they kill us. No. It's just they we can't kill them. 90% of Paladins chicken out around 20% health then run away healing themselves.
As for warriors... Not hard at all. I'm a 54 lock right now, with 31 demonology and the rest in Affliction, and I routinely mutilate 60 warriors in tier 2 gear 1on1. Occassionally I'll face one that really knows his stuff and can get me down hard and bring me down because I can Death Coil him, but those are few and far between, and usually involve the warrior blueflagging w/ Charge.
And rogues. Pfft. Easy pickings. At level 42 I was in WSG and went AFK for 5 minutes. When I came back, a gnomish rogue level 48 had come up and started hacking away at my still figure. I was down to half health. I sat down, Death Coiled him, then proceeded to lay waste to him without getting so much as another scratch.
The class that ALWAYs kills me? Priests! When they're actually focusing on killing me, I die. I just can't keep up with their rabid healing, not even w/ Mana Drain.
GRRiMREEAPeR Aug 16th 2006 9:20PM
i think the best hardest class is history... but spanish is a close second. the best class is recess!

As I have pvp'd very little, and am a 55 Warlock, I would like to hear why so many of you think that a 'lock is difficult to deal with. Is it that we can DOT you and then fear you, to control our own damage, or is it that you have to deal with us and a pet at the same time? What pet do you think is the most difficult? The VW (with Sacrifice), the Imp (with firebolt), or the felhunter (with mana burn)?
For the 'locks out there, what methods do you use? DOTs, fear, then drain life? This is how I mostly play on PvE. do the same principals apply in pvp?
therandomguy Aug 30th 2006 11:38AM
As a hunter (49) my most feared class is a mage. Most of the time they beat me, coming out when i'm alone, and using Frost Nova, then moving into my stupid "Dead Zone."
If i get lucky my Scatter Shot lets me get into rage and kill them, but if they manage to get me before i get into range, I'm dead meat.
Also, I REALLY HATE rogues, come up behind me, and keep me stunned so that only pet did dmg :P
My easiest class is prbly priests, shadow or no shadow, just get their shield off, and in the wekened soul time kill them :P
comoestas Sep 1st 2006 10:32PM
My main is a tier 2 holy priest(Alliance) and I really don't own anything with him. I just keep people alive and that usually pisses the other faction off.
I have a lvl 49 warrior I pvp the crap out of for now. Easiest>hardest to kill for me: druid, rogue, hunter, shaman, mage, priest, warlock. To kill another warrior for me , it just depends on the gear and skill they have, but really not that annoying for me.
Louis Murphy Sep 19th 2006 9:30PM
Pallies hard?!? as a destruction warlock pallies are so easy, here is what you do. you DOT and you keep them doted and feared. pretty soon they will have used all their fear breaks and are getting half way on health. keep the dots fresh. then Immolate, deathcoil, conflagerate shadowburn. that should be enough to kill the pallie with out a single heal or bubble. The trick lies in the inital slow lost of life, then before the bubble comes you burst damage them dead and they have no way of getting out of the fear.
Hardest for me is a hunter with a cat, they just put that 1.0 attack speed cat on me and it kill my casting time.
Warriors are decent with there is a succubus chain seducing him.
healing classes are annoying i use my anti-pallie tricks
mages and other locks are ok
rouges are real easy if I have a sucubus. once i get that inital stun i seduce walk back and nuke, then repeat.
