Essential Addons for the Discerning Level 60

Seeing as my Shaman (Shamanic on Thunderhorn, by the way, in case you want to say hi) is finally about to hit 60 and start raiding, I figured that now might be a good time to sit down and update and refresh my UI addons, something I haven't done for a patch or two now. So I monitored my play habits for a little while, checked in with guildies for their recommendations, and in the end, these are the five addons I decided were necessary to put in my /Interface folder.
-Titan Panel: If I was only going to put one addon in, this would be the one I use. Titan creates an extra bar at the top or bottom of your screen (on my setup, I actually have it in both places) that tracks all kinds of things for you: time played, XP/hour, Durability, stat buffs, FPS, game memory usage-- pretty much everything about your WoW experience you'd ever want to know (it also will tell you the coordinates of your position in the game-- extremely useful for getting around Azeroth). Titan, like the famous CTmod (which I tried but didn't like as much), is so complex there's even addons for the addon. If you've never tried a meta-addon like Titan, definitely give it a try.
Four more after the jump...
-MonkeyQuest: Before I started using this one, I wondered exactly why it even existed. I thought WoW had plenty of quest tracking ability built into the default UI itself. But after using MQ for a while, I've realized it's much more than that. Sure, it's got a nifty little window that lets your track and sort your quests, but MQ even invades your inventory-- it'll tell you on an item's tooltip that the item is a quest item and exactly what quest it's for. Ditto on mobs' tooltips-- can't tell you how much time that's saved me, to be walking along and realize, thanks to the tooltip, that I almost walked past an invaluable quest kill. Don't get me wrong, I love grinding, but if you're questing, bring the Monkey along.
-DamageMeters (I use this one integrated with TitanPanel) Of all of these addons, this is probably the coolest one I've ever seen. At the end of an instance, have you ever wondered who in your party did the most damage, or the most healing, or took the most damage, or casted the most spells, or about a dozen other stats? DamageMeters tracks it all, and you can even output (numbers and percentage) that info directly into party, guild, or raid chat (in fact, you've probably seen the output at some point already-- I know almost every time I finish a successful run, someone asks me to see it). I also use it to determine what weapon works best or fastest, and even (as Shaman) what buffs help damage and aggro more or less. Unfortunately, it looks like the author of this terrific addon has quit updating it, but it still works with version 1.11. No telling what will happen with 1.12, but I've heard good things about SW Stats...
-Auctioneer: I mentioned this one when I posted about making money, but it's worth mentioning again, for the reason I listed then. If you want to make cash (or just learn more about how the economy works in WoW), install this addon. Install it, and scan the auction house, right now.
-CT-RaidAssist: If you're raiding at all, this is the UI you should have. In fact, if you're raiding with any regularity, you probably already have it. CT-RaidAssist (part of the CT mods, named after creators Cide and TS) lets you watch and recast buffs, monitor Main Tank activity, control and run raids, and pretty much everything having to do with having more than five people in your immediate party. You won't use it much if you haven't hit 60 yet (unless you have a nice guild that lets you tag along), but once you start raiding, it's invaluable.
I know there are lots of other addons out there, and I've even tried a lot of them (including Scrolling Combat Text, which seemed a little too distracting for me-- can't wait to see what Blizz does with their version of it, and Gatherer, which I liked but never really used-- I'm not much for professions in general), but these are the five that I can't play without. I know, however, that there's some you think I'm crazy for missing. Of course that's why we have a comments section, people! Which other addons would you recommend?

I'd highly recommend replacing TitanBar with Fubar. TitanBar is a huge resource hog, surprisingly enough. Fubar has about all of the same functionality.

I also use Discord mods. The best because they're so customizeable.

hmm. damagemeters can lead to some very problematic issues within the raid environment. i finally got rid of it rather than become a slave to it.
the blizz clone of SCT was pretty much crap on PTR and lacks the raw flexability of SCT.
the gatherer-type mod built into the ct mod map package works well for me and is very handy if you gotta farm herbs and thorium, but after a while you wind up knowing where most everything spawns anyway.
stuff i'd not likely do without are castparty, itemrack, titanbar (titantradecooldown is just incredible if you have lots of transmutes) and advanced tradeskill window.

damage meters are fun when soloing or 5-10 man instances, but they can wipe a raid if people arent careful. KTM (http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-3488-1-klhthreatmeter.html) is a threat meter, and much better, only problem is it is better when more people in the raid have it.
Other than that, ya CT Raid is a must, as well as having Vent or Team Speak (depending on your guild and ya, I know they arent traditional addons but still important)

I have tried the discord mods as well, but I've never vibed with the whole "create weird bars everywhere" mentality. Works for some people, I know, but not for me.
Although I do like the look of castparty. Thanks for the hint, Argent.

Seeing as your a shaman and don't seem to like the idea of discord, have you tried ReactionBar? Provides some of the same functionality but works with the default UI.

ClickHeal. From my days as a Raiding Resto Shaman I really like ClickHeal. It's got great functionality.
CT_Raid. Duh.
I keep CT_Mod around to move bars and stuff but I want to find something else.
I'm using PERL frames now, and I like those for the change of pace. (And they work with ClickHeal.)
Gatherer. I couldn't live without it. The other day I cleared out my bank of some herbs I'd kept stored. The lower level stuff I thought I'd use but never did. Made like 60G on them. 10 or so stacks. Not bad.
ItemRack. I swap between fighting, casting, and healing gear all the time. For my Rogue I use it to equip a dagger when stealthed and revert back to swords when I come out. I got a "lounge outfit" from that holiday in Moonglade that I can easily put on when there's 15 Alliance vs. 5 Horde in Arathi Basin. Stance changes and my gear changes, works great for Warrior and Druid.
Scrolling Combat Text. I like the info.
Discord. I used GroupButtons for a while. To heal, cast. Found CastParty and then ClickHeal better for healing. ActionBars seems to be overly complex. I want to like it, keep trying it, can't make it work for me.
Call of Elements. Shaman totem management. Excellent. (Except it now seems broken and not working for me. Maybe a conflict with another add-on.)
Auctioneer and the Fizzwidget Gadgets.

There are two not already mentioned I use constantly. Countdoom for locks gives you a countdown to when your spells expire. Great for knowing when to hit Confligrate and when to reapply others. Wish I knew of the same type of thing for other classes.
The second mod is Posessions which gives you a list of all the items you and all of your alts own. It lists how many and where they are located. On their person, in their bank, in their inventory or in their mailbox.

Hmm, I currently use Cosmos. Used to be a HUGE must if you were playing and honestly while most of the it's functionality has been replicated I can't find the one thing it does anywhere else and I'm sticking with it. Equipcompare is the module within that just ROCKS. Loot item is getting rolled on and it is for your class, equipcompare drops your current item in a side by side box with the new item when you mouse over the loot window, AH Window, Click a link, whatever. I can't live without it as I play both my main and alts and am constantly seeing new items drop.
CT Raid is a given, but you forgot mods such as Decursive for any caster that can remove an effect of any kind. Emergency Monitor that pops up a button similar to CTRA has for Maintank but for people who reach a theshold you define for healing. Guildmap which shows the location of guildies on your map for guiding an errant guildie where they need to be when they aren't in your immediate group or GuildCalendar which makes scheduling events 100000% easier.

I use Cosmos also. Used to be a hog. New authors have completely overhauled it. All the problems with the patcher have been addressed and it now rocks and it is the only place I can find a supported version of CastOption. CastOption alone is worth getting Cosmos!
CastOption is a click and forget casting mod. auto-assist, spell cancelling, auto spell rank adjustment, auto targeting, Mana saving features and on and on.
Mat Aug 22nd 2006 11:50AM
I use CT Mod, but being that I'm going resto with my new druid I'll probably be ClickHeal pretty soon here.
And Auctioneer... I should really stop being lazy and just install that already.

A list of light, yet useful addons for the semi-minimalist: http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5795
Coanunn: on that list is QuickCompare, which is like EquipCompare... but about a tenth the size, and adding a quick compare pop-up over items linked in chat. http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-4635-1-quickcompare.html
Also, seconding FuBar over Titan Panel. It's just better.

Of how many of these AddOns are mac compatible?
Mag Aug 23rd 2006 10:30AM
I don't think they are that important, the game can survive without those.
Trentin Aug 23rd 2006 9:56PM
"Before I started using this one, I wondered exactly why it even existed."
I love that line. It's totally true, you just have to give MonkeyQuest a chance before you realize you can't live without it :)

"14. Of how many of these AddOns are mac compatible?"
They all are because they are not platform based. Download in Zipped format, use Stuffit to expand and drop them into your Addon WoW file.
Really simple, with minimal conflict issues.
