Breakfast Topic: Embarrassingly Old Gear
Dave wrote in suggesting this topic, and, so, let's have it! What one (or two, or three...) piece of gear have you had for the longest time, but not been able to replace? Did your warlock hit level 60 wearing those same enchanted gold bloodrobes? I know my warlock was using a hypnotic blade well into level 60 - and before you say anything, I must point out that there were, at the time, a lack of one-handed caster weapons of quality. So, do you have any gear on you that you're embarrassed to be seen with, but can't find a replacement for?Filed under: Items, Breakfast Topics

I've been wearing a pair of shoulders - Kentic Amice - since probably 57-58 or so. They're 47 blues, but they look better than my set pieces(Magister's) and still have pretty nice bonuses. I got screwed out of my Zandalar Illusionist's Mantle last night by a guildie who promised not to roll(but naturally couldn't deliver on his guarantees), so I've still got to wait to upgrade.

I've been a 60 hunter for at least 4 months, done countless Scholo / Strat runs.....and yet I still wear these sucksers. http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=17728 Wouldnt been so bad if they weren't leather though

Lv 60 for about 5 days played (about 2-3 months) and I still have my Robes of the Lich. Ran MC last night and doing ZG tonight.
Been to BRD about 8 times trying to replace it with the very awesome Robes of the Royal Crown, but so far it hasn't dropped once. Even the Hand of Justice has dropped! We have the lava-hop Emp run down to a science (about 40-50 minutes), so we're gonna buckle down one of these days and just do back-to-back Emp runs.

I had templar pauldrons for the longest time. Finally Lightforge shoulders dropped and paladin who had Earthslag shoulders got it. My only opportunity for an upgrade was blown =(

I got Rod of the Sleepwalker from a BFD run at Lvl 24. I'm now 35 and climbing and I still have it. Try as I might, I can't find a replacement that can improve on the +11 INT (or +10 SPI). The most aggravating part is that I'm an enchanter capable of making Lesser Wizard Oil, but because of the Rod's low item level, I can only cast Minor Wizard Oil on it. I'm just starting to run Scarlet Monastary - so maybe I'll get lucky and find a new blue to replace the old stick.

For a hunter at least once you get your DM trinket and Blackhands Breath you are pretty much set until you are a ways into BWL and get access to the Drakefang Talisman.
Sure you may use the devilsaur eye every now and again particularly in PVP for Eye+Rapidfire shinanegans but bread and butter wist those two can be seen on mostly Tier2 folks.

For some reason, on my server, it's really hard to find a group to do anything between Scarlet Monastery and Dire Maul if you're not in a guild. So I was using the Bloodrobes, Hypnotic Blade, and Whitemane's Chapaeu for a loooong time.
It also took me forever to upgrade my Warsong Belt. I must have had that thing for like fifteen levels.

Ha, I've got most of my Felheart Rainment but am still using the Hypnotic Blade myself. I don't have the DKP for the Azuresong Mageblade (not the way Felheart drops in MC - I'm in such a DKP hole), and I'm not switching to a two-hander since I have an epic off-hand item, so I'll probably just get a bit more Argent Dawn rep and then get Verimonde's Last Resort. If I slap a +30 spellpower on it, it should be tolerable. (The Sageblade is too expensive to justify the extra point of damage over Verimonde's, and I'm too busy during the week to run ZG with my guild for the Fang of Venoxis.)
Come to think of it, I *almost* hit level 60 with the Bloodrobes, too - but then upgraded to Robe of the Void.

6/8 Transendence. Devout Robes AND Shoulders. I look like a noob....
The only two pieces of gear that effect your apperance are robes and shoulders : (

Im a level 60 rogue for about a month or 2 now. And like that hunter I still have the albino crocscale boots. We run AQ20 and MC and ZG regularly yet Im still wearing mara boots. Speaking of Mara items, my offhand is still the Thrash Blade quest reward. Perfect for my 3pieces of NS and my Bloodfang hood...

I had the seal of wryn for like 30lvls. That was the most annoying thing. I hated the seal of wrynn by the time I was able to replace it because it felt like a mark of noobishness since you get it at like lvl19 or something. I have don mauricio's band of domniation and a couple of other good blue rings now, so I'm good, but that really bothered me to be lvl50+ and still be wearing one of the first rings I got.
Sorzroa Aug 28th 2006 11:51AM
I have a lvl 57 tar. hunter that is still wearing the lvl 35ish boots you get for a quest turn in at Splintertree post. Still waiting for a good drop on some mail boots. Yet, last night my lvl 9 Orc warrior got a "green" sword off a lvl 6 centaur.

I was using Robe of Winter Night as a frost mage, but when spamming frost bolts in MC and BWL got boring I switched to a scorch build and the Robe of Winter Night was basically useless. So what did I do, I ran SFK to get some twink loot for my lvl 19 Rogue and got Robes of Arugal FTW. I love the tells I get like "why are you wearing that" or the great one that I got from a battleground "Robes of Arugal, Robes of Arugal, Robes of Arugal, Robes of Arugal, Robes of Arugal, Robes of Arugal, lol". But until I can pick up Arcanist Robe or Vestments of the Shifting Sands, I will be sticking with Robes of Arugal, FTW. (ps it looks better then all but the Vestments of the Shifting Sands which looks kick @ss on a human female mage.)

The two pieces of equipment that I used for the longest were Lightforge legs, and one of the rings that you get for killing the Baron with the Medallion of Faith quest.
I finally replaced the LF legs with their SF equivalent about a month ago, but I only replaced the ring with the Band of Servitude (http://www.thottbot.com/?i=53664) this past weekend. I think I had that ring for well over a year before I finally replaced it.

I got these http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=10777 of the monkey and I wore them till I was in the 50's. As a rogue, I love them, all I did was put a armor kit on them and they were fine. They are still in my bank in case I need the nature resistance
sollaires Aug 28th 2006 12:58PM
On my lock, I still had Robes of the Lich, Green Lens of Shadow Wraith, and Necromancer Leggings at 60. I wasn't too proud of those, even though, at some level, they are still viable pieces.
I just replaced my Seal of Sylvanas with the warsong rings on my 49 druid. That ring hands around altogether too long.
Baskerville Aug 28th 2006 1:02PM
I'm not going to say that it trumps any of these others, but it sure hurt my feelings...
I used the Coldrage Dagger (http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=10761) from level 39 to, like, level 51. As a rogue, that lack of high DPS made playing an incredible grind, and I was too stubborn to switch to swords.
But when you're lagging behind in a level 60-only guild it's hard to make any of those oh-so-important endgamers give a s#!t about you're lowly problems. See everyone again in the expansion!

4/8 transcendence. . .and a mooncloth robe
Derelict Aug 28th 2006 1:36PM
Level 60 raiding priest, decked out in prophecy and several pieces of transcendence ... and I still have a Mooncloth Robe. I've been to everything up to BWL more times that I care to admit ... but no robe drops while I'm on board!
The worst part? The sucker looks like a wedding dress.
