How to Hit 60 In Style (Or Not)
Yesterday, my Orc Shaman finally hit "the most fun part of the game," according to one of my guildies-- yep, after long last, he dinged 60.Originally, I had hoped to do something really interesting with it-- hit 60 by discovering Stormwind, or finally downing Hakkar for the first time. But in the end, I happened to be in the middle of a Scholo run, and it rolled right up on me. Not that it wasn't exciting-- later that night I used all my new stats on a raid and picked up a great mace, and I couldn't wait to get into AV afterwards and finally put the beat down for real. And my experience wasn't as bad as Belle's over in the WoW Ladies livejournal group-- she hit 60 while AFK and offline.
Fortunately, I have another character three levels from 60, so I'm just a week or so away from another chance to make the ding special (I think for this one I'm going to at least try to get my guild to take me to Onyxia for the occasion). Did you try to hit your 60 somewhere specific, or did you just play through until that yellow sparkle showed up for the last time? Or if you haven't reached the holy grail yet, got any plans?

It's always happened not how we want it to happen. Our life is so.
P.S. Congrats with 60-lvl

One of my former guild masters hit 60 on his hunter while asleep. Personally, I can't even remember when I hit it, but it was only 18 days of play time, which is pretty good for a first sixty.

Everyone knows that the best way to hit 60 is by discovery XP. =)

I hit 60 killing theat stupid plaguebat outside Strat Back door going on my first baron run (DK) on my first Char. I didn't realize that I was that close somehow. I guess I was too excited about doing a baron run. This was back when it was 10 manable.

I turned in a quest at the bottom of Felwood and dinged. Some guy standing next to me was like.. OH MY GOSH DID YOU JUST HIT 60?!?! I was like.. I guess? "WOW CONGRATS MAN! I'm so glad I was able to share your experience".. lol it was rather humerous.

I just made 60 with my second character, a tank. Thinking I was done I flew to Dranassas from Felwood to turn in a quest certian I would ding. Can you believe it, I was 17 points shy and had to fly all the way back to Felwood and kill the first bear I saw to ding.

I dinged my first level 60 with my druid after 1 month, got bored, got back, bored again, came back, such a love-hate relationship. And I dinged in Winterspring on some yetis.
My 2nd char dinged 60 in EPL when I was almost half asleep from grinding the same mobs during the invasion thing.
Fun :(

I'm gonna hit 60 pretty soon (probably by Wednesday). I'm thinking of going streaking in Orgrimmar and ding that way =P

This happened just yesterday (9.4.06) and is entirely too epic for words. Whether epic comedy or epic trajedy, I'll let you decide.
For the past 20 or so levels, I've been powerleveling with a guildmate warlock. We joke about the "race" to sixty. We both play often, and I probably play more, what with all my alts and the friends and obligations they make. So Saturday, my warlock and I are globetrotting, working our way through the Windsor quests and grinding out level 59. I figured we'd do Jailbreak and the escort, and then maybe I could run off to Westfall to work on cooking.
But we'e joined by other guildmates who are watching he clock, and telling me to get back on the guild channel. Seems our guild leader thought it would be a great day to kill Onyxia in her lair. So the guild warlocks and mages got in position for The Great Attunement Run of 2006™. As a resto druid, they were especially keen to get me through it as fast as possible. So I respond to a summons that sends to me to Mazthoril, with big scary blue dragons, and a room full of druids keeping everything hibernating. I get a quest from an elf named Haleh and spam "?" cause I'm moving too fast.
The next thing I know, I'm being summoned to a 10-man in UBRS, where guild 60s had cleared the path to Drakk. After some hopscotch summons, the 60s traded out for 59s who needed drakk's for the attunement blood. I'd never been there before, and neither had the hunter, who we all know had the hardest part of pulling Drakk out of the room. Luckily, we made it. Thank god for soulstoned pallies.
Then I'm getting another summons to Mazthoril, for the turn in. That was easy enough, and I'd managed to get 75% to 60. Then it's a race to Dustwallow, where the guild was congregating and desperately trying to find enough green level enemies to kill to get all the soulstones back. Meanwhile mages are porting back to Ironforge with shopping lists of reagents and pots for 40 people and alts are coughing up stores of dreamfoil. I've seen too much new content today, and I'm freaking out a little.
So we run in and wipe four times. The last time she was down to 8%, so we were incredibly happy with our debut performance. But wiping meant people were hungry to succeed at something, and that meant Molten Core. So we're mass hearthing to IF and griffing to BRD.
But on entering, the guild leader asks the 59s to bow out. Which is kinda depressing, as I was hoping I'd level with my guild all around me. But I was in a cold sweat being in another COMPLETELY new raid, and agreed. I needed to eat something and take a break anyway.
So I hop on an alt and meet up with a little 35 priest girl that I help from time to time, telling her of my druid's adventures in endgame. We decide to venture out on a Flight Path expedition in lower Kalimdor and get as far as Feralas when we fall asleep at the computer.
The next day I spend trying to help other guildmates with their Onyxia attunements, PUGing it up to Drakk. I manage to snag a quest from a little blue dragon that should send me back to Haleh, the elf I met the day before. Slow grind puts me at halfway into my last bar to 60 when I decide to sleep.
Now the next day I'm determined. My warlock friend got his attunement and is working his way through Scholo, and all my quests are elites, so I decide to kill some Winterspring cats. But as I trigger my Moonglade, I get a whisper from another guild druid who wants to do a quick stealth run in Sunken Temple. I join in. But we get lost in there. Thirty minutes to another MC run and the entire guild is asking for invites. The heat is on full bore, and I can't get xp from gray elites.
Then lag hits.
It gets so bad I can't move, can't kill, can't do anything. I end up turning the damn machine off and doing some dishes to cool off. Fifteen minutes until MC and I need 4000 points to level. I sit back down and remember the Haleh turn in. A quick Thottbot tells me where Mazthoril is and I'm stealthing through dragonkin to find her. Five minutes to go.
So there she is, and I click three or four times I'm in such a hurry. I turn sixty as she punts me over the moutain, and the level burst is the last thing I see before the screen wipes to the Eastern Kingdom loading screen. What a ride! What a way to turn 60!
I come to in Darrowmere Lake and proceed to spam guild chat "I'm 60!". My warlock buddy does his best to get me in, but the MC run is full. No room for the ninth resto druid.
Que sera. My preist girl whispers a grats, and decide to chill out by switching to an alt and finishing our flight path journey. Which is fun until we make it to Auberdine, where we're met with a preist and hunter who want us to join them in Blackfathom Deeps. It's suggested I run them through it on my (oh wow!) 60. Sure I say.
Now here's the comedy for you and the trajedy for me. The preist, a level 20, turns out to be one of the worst preists I've ever met. I think he rolled a preist thinking they're mages that get to go to more parties. Anyway, he's pulling and dying and my level 35 friend can't keep up trying to rez him and thinking she has to heal me. Plus, he's whining he wants loot on FFA and rolling Need on gear because he's "close to having enough money for his mount". I proceed to school him on what a healer's role is, that Need rolls are bogus, loot always goes on Group, and what aggro really means. Sigh. ...I'd never felt more 60.

I just recently rerolled a mage on earthen ring and was close to hitting 60. On the way to scholomance to join what would be yet anther failure of a pug, I stopped and checked on the 3 bodies littering the area around the Blightcaller. I quickly finished the quest and headed to chillwind to turn it in. Headed to scholo. 3 wipes later my scholo run was over and I was irritated because I still needed a little over 6k to level up. I figured I would just go to stormwind and turn the quest in and find something else to do for xp.
Standing on the throne area in front of the boy king, lady Preston and Bolv I turned in the quest. Boom...6800 xp. Those who where standing in the room waiting for bgs, applauded and cheered. And some gnome /yelled that I hit level 60 in front of him.
Nothing big, since hitting 60 isn't hard. But it was just cool where and how it happened.
*side note*
Best leveling up is in the middle of a pull gone bad. You are near dead and out of mana...things are looking bleak and then ding! You level up. Have full health and mana and you turn the bad situation into a good one. Only happened a few times though in my lower levels.

an epic story indeed, Urthona! i easily and amusingly pictured you flying in the air with the ding stars all around you and a huge smile on your toons face. classic!

First of all....Urthona, that is a hilarious story!!
Second of all... our guild started doing ding-60 parties a few months back, coming from a recommendation maybe even on this site. I was the first person to have a party. 25+ people showed up, even some lowbies, as I killed dragonkin in the Burning Steppes. It was super fun. We descended on any Horde that came around...we drank...we set off fireworks...it was a blast! We've continued to throw parties for anyone who turns 60 who wants to have one. I completely recommend that tradition; if you can't get a lot of people to show up, you should at least do it with a friend or two.
Getting a mount is another fun milestone. I had some friends drop by when I was picking up my 1337 epic mechanostrider. It was a nice little ceremony. :-)

I had one of the greatest 60 pops you could imagine. I play with my 8 yr old son and we planned it so that we hit 60 on the same mob!
I was a 1/2 level ahead of him and we spent the last day ungrouped with me healing him (I am a shaman and he is a druid). finally we grouped up and killed the last 3 mobs and were bathed in yellow together!
one of the greatest father-son moments possible. of course I #$#@$@#ed up the screenshot :-)
