Breakfast Topic: Noob Encounters
Last night, as I was hanging out in the Iron Forge auction house, minding my own business and chatting with some buds, I got an odd tell. Some level 12 was trying to get me to open up a portal to Darnassus for him. Now, if I were a mage, this might have made a little bit of sense. Being warlock, well...I informed him that he should probably find a mage. Unhappy with my answer, he responded that I was being lazy and I should open up the portal, as he knows warlocks can move people from here to there and I shouldn't lie to him. Against my better judgement I tried to explain how summoning works, going so far as to suggest bothering a warlock in Darnassus. He replied with a few choice obscenities, put me on ignore and left the auction house. I can only assume he was heading off to find a Warrior to conjure him some water for his long trip to Darnassus.
This is not my first close encounter of the noob kind, but it was certainly the rudest. Most of the time I try to help, but some people just seem to be beyond any assistance you might provide. What's your most interesting noob encounter in Azeroth?

Chips, I like the AAirlines thing. I think I'll have to borrow that idea. I don't always get the not specced for summons thing though. It just begs the annoying tyrade of the teen complaints. I just usually respond, 3g please. If they really need to be summoned, why not pay me back for wasting a shard on them. Seems only fair since I'll have to fly out to winterspring, felwood, or any high level place to replace the shard. As for being a newb, I am pretty much all around. I've gotten very good with my lock, but I still pull the dumb moves and only recently figured that a shield would help me draw more aggro to my warrior. See? I'll say though, most of the people on Aegwynn have been pretty helpful to me learning and I've gone out of my way to help when I can. All the newbs out there, be patient, be polite, and don't spam and you'll find people more than willing to help. Just don't go begging me for money, I earned it the old fashion way, selling leather.

#15 what makes you think that the alliance doesnt gank? every time i step into ashenvale a tier 2 rogue walks up and one shots me? do you have a different definition for the word "gank"? on my 44 undead mage when i go into the lowbie areas i usually just dance with the allies. but there is always some idiot lvl 10 that thinks he can take me. even then i dont usually kill them i just sheep them. unless they are incredibly persistent.

I was in Goldshire when a lvl 10 warlock named "Warlocky" started begging me to teach him what a soul shard was and how to make one. Despite many attempts to explain how to simply make a soul shard ("cast Drain Soul on an enemy as they're about to die and it'll make a soul shard...etc") he still didn't get it, and I eventually gave up and left him to his own devices (although I continued to receive whispers from him for the next few hours). I found his name most interesting considering he was /not/ very "warlocky" (if you ask me).

There is a huge difference between the 2 types of people and I've played characters to 60 on both sides and yeah I have seen a huge difference between the Horde and Alliance, mostly cause most of the alliance is filled with kids looking to be a "hero" as if what you look like makes the difference for such a thing.
I love Newbies I've met some really nice people just looking to learn more about whats going on with their new game by answering questions asked in general chat.
Noobs well I dont even think there is a kind word for them.
I've got some pretty interesting Noob stories, like when a lowbie completely new to the game and the guild I was in called me an idiot cause I told him he should CONSIDER wearing Leather instead of cloth on his shaman when I'm sitting there on my 60 shaman.
Or on my pally when I get people I cant even see or find shouting at me to heal them.. or better yet when I'm riding along and they start cursing me out for not throwing a 5min buff on them, like they cant live with out it. Makes me feel really bad though for Priests and other classes who have substantial buffs.

My druid is entirely confused by everyone asking for seemingly different things.
Pink Paw, MOTW, The Claw, Mark, Druid-Love, Footprint...
It's the Mark of the Wild, and I can understand the need to shorten and slang. But dang if I'm not stopped and confused by what people are asking for.

there's a few 11-30 members that use 'u r' and other such inane spellings and they constantly message 60s to run them through deadmines or gnomeregan. A lot of the higher ups in the guild have told them to never do it again, and the next day it's the same request. We have about 10,000 better things to do, most of them involving getting resists and mats so we can survive the next 20-40man raid. We don't have time for noobish stuff.

In response to Trudie:
I never said don't roll a warrior, I don't care if you roll a warrior, but if you're going to take a MT position in a group be it Deadmines to anything, don't be stupid and not have your skills trained, and don't join a group that is looking for a tank when you don't even know the basic principles of tanking. You save a bunch of people headaches.
On my server, as Warrior Officer I do tank training constantly with warriors from 60 down to lowbies, just because a bad tank gives a guild a bad name. If you drop the ball and your group wipes too many times you get a bad name and the guild gets a bad name too for having terrible tanks. I've trained bunches of tanks, some of them are good and some of them just weren't suitable for tanking, so they went into PvP roles and dominate.
I love helping people out, I love training warriors to be tanks, but some people just aren't fit for tanking. Nothing against them, I think they're cool and I like em all, but I don't have time to waste on trying to train someone who will never understand tanking or the basic concept of it, when I could be training someone who one day may save my ass in a raid or completely save a raid period.
That's all, people can play what they want, but it all comes down to actually being useful at some point or just being a burden in groups.

Ive had many MMORPG's under my belt. And WOW is the most Mainstream MMORPG to date...
Most if not all gamers know if it or is playing it now.
And usually mmorpg community is made of more middle age players but wow is the exception to this.
Its pure popularity has drawn is way more young mmo gamers now.
The simple fact is 100 teens vs 100 adults...there is a higher percentage of asshats in the teens vs adults. This does not mean adults cant be jackoffs either.
But simply numbers...you can't ignore the fact that many young players lack eithics and people skills because of there lack of life experience..but are capable of attaining them at an early age. It's just not as common to see.
I am very sure majority of young players are good kids but a whole lot are pure rude bastards that need a real slap to the face with the mouths they have.
Maturity has to be grown into some develop fast some do not develop at all.

From a newbie,
Gosh, Im a newbie and I know not to do that sruff. The roll thing game me some trouble( then i just felt dumb) I like the trade window trick.
One question, why do folks get so irriatated whan you give them a compliment just in passing.
Story:
I see a Lvl 60 NE ( dont remeber what class) with by far the coolest looking (visualy) toon ive everseen and a really cool weapon.
I whispered ( Very nice character, by far the coolest that ive seen. It is obvious that you put a great deal of time into it. Sorry to bother u im a newbie)I type fast so it takes me now time at all to do this
NE: Welcome to /ignore ahole.
Now its 1:00 am Im tired just trying to finish a quest in town and go to bed. Should have just left him alone but I was a bit slaphappy. Guess I learned my lesson. But its a friggin compliment what was so wrong.

Well, some real interesting stories there, but I must say that I am a noob, but I am one of the noobs you hope to find, i help those lower than me and I am polite when asking about things that I haven't been told about as I know how annoying it is to be in the position of you guys.
Anyway, now for a story from a different MMORPG:
The game's called Kalonline and its free...
Picture this: You are a samuri warrior in a war against demons, that's basically the storyline.
Anyway, I was at lvl 45 finally, after 2 months of playing and I started taking students onbaord (there's a student/techer mod on there), and i get this one guy who was spamming that his lvl 30 archer was hacked and stolen, so i talk to him and take him under my wing...i also have my fave character as a lvl 72 archer, so i start talking to him about what skills and equip he had, so we can get him back to where he was and both make something out of it.
Anyway, he simply replies : A level 14 bow and some great level 8 armour. Please bear in mind that the higher the level the better equip and at lvl 30 i had lvl42 armour and a lvl 40 bow...
Not as funny as some but i cracked up...

The idiot who said Alliance doesn't gank...
I was playing 10 minutes ago, running through Stonetalon Mountains on my way to the peak. Was fighting a fay dragon about 7 levels above me, barely survived, barely had any health. Thats when a ?? rogue backstabs me
I define that as "gank".
I don't gank, and try to convince others not to. If I'm near someone or grouped with someone who goes to gank, I'll yell at them. Their excuse is that the alliance does it. So 2 wrongs make a right? I'll only fight thsoe that a) attack me or b) no more than 2 levels below me
Both sides gank cause both sides are inhabited by dicks

When running a UBRS on a thursday nite I had a new guildie, lvl 20 mage, ask me if I could move the ZG raid planed for the weekend to firday. I simply asked him what character he planed on bringing a long. His respawns was "this one silly". I then explained how ZG was not for lvl 20s but for those 3x higher lvl. Poor kid. Hope he lvls fast lol.

A bit late perhaps but hey.
To the person asking why ppl could want you to pass instead of need/greed, there can be several reasons.
One is to avoid mistakes, suppose someone doesn't know an item is useless to them, or of alot more use to someone else. Better to have someone explain this than to risk losing a roll to this person.
Another could be that if noone wants an item, some people would prefer to have the shard (from disenchanting) to sell, over the item itself. So if noone wants the item, everyone can /roll and the winner can decide if he or she wants the item or the shard. Provided you have someone in your group that can disenchant of course.
And my own story, as a warlock levelling i didn't know alot about other classes. So when I kept soulstoning myself instead of the priest ppl got angry. I needed ppl to tell me it could be someone else's soul that was stored also.
Don't expect everyone to know everything.

Best noob moment was in the little island off or camp mojache. Me and about 12 other guildies were grinding the 62 elites for some meat to make for tanks for the BWL raid that night. Well aparently some lowbie ally had made it over here no idea how they were all in their 40's. Now i'm on a PvP server so I was about to start killing them when my guild leader says watch. He stealths up right next to the 62 elite boss and throws a distract in the direction or the ally and they preceed to come try and kill the ?? mark chimara or w/e. SO it wipes them all 34 of them I think. So they decide to call some high lvl buddies to come help. But seeing as our whole party was rouges and druids we sat in stealth after we landed to hits on the elite and let the ally take him out. Call the rest of our guild and killed all of the alliance that were on the island. I myself found one druid their side quiet weird he was in cheetah and just running around everyone so I chase him into the water and follow him for about 10 mins I think. Seeing as he's only a lvl 40 I /dance with him hug him a few times and he starts attack mmonfire spam. I take about 2k dmg heal myself and continue then out of nowhere I get ganked I mean 7+rouges gane the mother ####ing shit out of me.So I myself had a very bad newb moment. So I try the druids little strat out on his fellow ally. About a week later I saw 4-5 lowbies in Teldrassil but instead of killing them I debuffed them then went cheetah and they followed I darted around until we hit the edge of teldrassil where if you fall off your dead specialy if your only lvl 5-10. My priest and warlock friends jump out and start mind controling/seduction for those who can't be thrown over yet and I sat their watching them get mindcontrolled of the tree one by one. Then we found some lowbies newbs on org that asked of rgold so we said we will port you here and give you some my friendsat at edge and played tele go bye-bye for about 6mins in the end we ended up killing 6 ally and about 7 horde. I jumped off hit the water and precided ot gank the ally until me hearth was done. All in all ganking makes the world of newbs go round.

I have been accused of being a noob on many occasions. Most of the time when I am playing my priest or pally, in groups where I am the primary healer. Try as I might to keep the tanks and squishys healthy, the tank(s) aggro the entire area, and inevitably die. If I am not dead by now, my mana is completely drained, all on healing, potions/bandages used, all I can do. What do I get in return? 'How bout some #@#$ing heals, noob? Why am I dead, do your job noob. Pisses me off. Been called a noob tank (at 50), also frustrating. I have a great shield and axe, but I have been dropped from groups, before fighting begins, for equipping a 2H Axe, not just for that but, also for not bowing to a lock or rogue or whatever who feels the need to instruct me on how to tank. Shields, are great for holding aggro, but I have never had a problem with the right 2H for the job, in fact I hold aggro better, but I know my job well. Always noob this, noob that. Anger ensues...
I suppose I am venting a little. Guess I just hate grouping with rude or ungrateful people
