New LFG system coming in the expansion
This is probably old news if you've been paying extremely close attention to Burning Crusade news (closer attention than me-- which is really, really close): there's going to be an all new LFG system in place when the expansion hits. Now, this is the first I've heard of it, but Tseric has confirmed it (with exactly zero information at all) on the forums.Which is music to my ears because the current system, err, how shall I put this? It sucks kodo balls. There's so much spam in the LFG channel, you'd think it's the canned meats aisle at the supermarket, and all that garbage is doubled with a second group of people shouting for the first group to "stop spamming LFG." It's impossible to find a group, because if you accept anyone who will join any group, you get a bunch of classes that won't play well together. And as far as I know, priests at 60 don't even watch the LFG channel-- either you have to know someone or have a guildie heal for you (don't worry, I'm working my priest up there as we speak).
So a new LFG system would be, at the very least, extremely welcome. Tseric will only say that it is "robust" and that it is "not just a revamped chat channel." Apparently Blizzard will go through it in-depth at a later date. At the very least, I'm expecting it to be somewhat like Dark Age's system, where you can flag yourself as LFG and browse others with the same interests (Experience, Questing, Dungeons). At best, it might be some kind of smart meeting stone system, that pairs players of like levels, preferences, gear, and even guilds as quickly as possible. Like almost everything else with the expansion, it seems we'll just have to wait and see.

In the meantime, I just upgraded my CallToArms mod and discovered they've included a filter to weed out the spam. You can specify how severe you want to filter (it's based on common tags like LFG and UBRS or group, quest...natural language used by people not spamming that channel). It works really well!
I usually set this up as LFG, set it to announce my LFG message in the LFG channel, and then filter the search results by the places I'm looking for (RFK, BFD, Gnomer)...then the little number on the icon tells me exactly how many other people are interested in the same things - and I can go off to quest/farm/wait.

Well, if the picture I saw earlier is real, then it looks like it will be pretty similar to what you described.

Instead of LFG, I would really like for this game to implement a "queue" of some sort for dungeons/instances. Rather than shouting in the LFG channel for hours on end (for lower level dungeons), queue up at the dungeon entrance a la battlegrounds, have a system that analyzes the classes that are queued up and assign to a group as necessary.
I'm not sure if the meeting stones do this, I haven't used it (I don't think anyone has, nor do I even know of its purpose), but I think this would ease grouping for the 5-man instances.
Just my $0.02.

What about a LFG announcement board in the major cities? Sort of like the meeting stones only you can select multiple instances, all from your faction's major city. Just click on the instance of your choice and you are put in que.

In Anarchy Online they implemented a great LFG tool.
You could hit a key to open up a window where you could hit a check mark to add yourself to the LFG. Anyone could see it, and could even filter by class/faction/ect.
You could also add a comment, so you could say what you are lfg for.
I would assume they are changing it to a sysem similar to this.

Unkle I love Anarchy Online. Yes Anarchy Online has a very awesome method of finding a group. I've been wondering for a long time how come blizzard hasn't impimented such a system. It's just such a natural system, and blizzards so so sloppy. And yes Call To Arms are FTW!
