Breakfast Topic: Realm type

Before we even go into this... yes -- I am a carebear. I play almost exclusively on PvE servers. I just, personally, have never been that excited by the full-out PvP experience, and the amount of PvP I can find on a PvE server has always suited me perfectly well. However, when first logging on, there are several options of realm type -- so today's question is what's your favorite? PvE, PvP, RP, or RP-PvP?

PvP is the best, unless of course there is somebody harder than you. In which case you're screwed. I'll stick on my PvE where I'll enjoy atleast some choice as to when I get killed.

At first I only played PVE, then I switched over to PVP and now I am on RP...not because I like role playing but because there are not a lot of jerks on RP servers...I'll more than likely stick it out on RP unless I cant get into a guild because I dont RP.

My friends who got me into the game were on a PvP server, so that's where I started and hit 60. At least one friend I brought along quit halfway through because the ganking was so bad.
I stopped playing WoW for a couple of months, but came back and rolled on PvE. It was like a completely different game. I was actually able to enjoy the content, rather than constantly look over my shoulder. Certain areas that were empty on my PvP server are alive and thriving on PvE.
I'll still go back to my PvP server every so often, when I know I'll have a group of friends to do stuff with. But 95% of the time, it'll be PvE for me.

Personally I prefer PvE with a bit of PvP and very rarely some RP. I haven't tried RP-PvP because there really can't be much time for RP'ing whilst you're killing cow-ppl.
Frankly I' getting a bit p'd off with all these TLAs

I just see the constant whining for new pvp servers and a lot of rather empty existing pvp realms and know that something isn't going totally well there.

PvE for me. Tried PvP, got ganked and corpse camped three separate times in one day. End of story for that realm type.

Personally I prefer a PvE server because you can actually enjoy questing and grinding without fear of being ganked. Makes those mindless hours spend grinding to the next level a bit easier.
Sometimes I wish I was on a pvp server though because of the other faction swooping in to steal a chest that you worked hard to uncover, or when they jump in to kill a named mob while you are pulling his guards.

Only RP-PvP!
What's the sense of the RPG game without a role?
And there's nothing like the experience and feeling of being the HERO in the World of Warcraft!

I enjoy RP/PVP. Pvp lets you be who you are. Are you the kind of person that mercifly rides by that lvl 20 pink haired gnome warrior named Snickerdoodle? Or are you the kind of person to enjoy watching any ememy fall lifeless at your feet? How can poeple be good or evil, if they are never offered the choice?
I don't Rp alot, mostly through scripted macro's. I do however hate the alliance. I hate them for all the gankings, I hate them for all the bubbling, for all the gnomes i could not click on. On a pvp server, It is easy to see the war part of warcraft. I enjoy playing agianst a very worthy enemy, they are crafty and cunning and unrelenting at times. I am my best only because they test me constantly. They force me to be a better player, or be dead. /salute for all pvperz.
There is no greater thrill than to successfully defend yourself froma would be ganker. For me it feels good to do the right thing. I am sure for my enemy though...his evil ways offered him something similar.

I prefer the RP realms. PvP was fun for a while, I leveled a Shaman to 60 on a PvP server, but I'm also after some amount of "suspension of belief". I don't want to see characters named "ChickNorris" or "SatanicDruid" or "TheOldGuy" running around the world. You get that on the PvP realms. And the PvE realms I imagine. So I like the RP realms. The game is better when it's less of a chat program and more of a fantasical world.

I dont think PvP works in WoW. Many players who "grew" up on PvP servers and tried PvE servers suddenly discovered a whole new game. As poster #3 said: you can actually ENJOY the game.
Ever being ganked while reading a quest story?
Ever being ganked while questing?
Nah. PvP doesnt work. BG's are fun to an extent, but at least you have choosen to visit them.
PvE here.
Ah. Another point. RP? Yeah, luckily those servers exist otherwise they would play on my PvE servers and speak strangely :)

i prefer RP-pvp so much. less kiddies and enough good players for PVP/PVE Highend Content ;)

I love RP-PVP, for one, i am a diehard pvp player, and on a normal pvp server, i watch my friend ride by some of the lower level horde. I yell at him to kill them, becasue on my server, RP-PVP. I kill anything that is horde, in reality.... it dosent matter what level they are, THEY ARE HORDE!
Brett Sep 28th 2006 10:59AM
Sorry, but if you're not playing PvP or RP-PvP you're not actually playing the game. Just the honest truth. :D

I too play on a RP-PvP server. Although it by no means eliminates the 1337 kids and their fellow childish players, it reduces the overall stupidity that goes on in a normal PVP server. Plus I like to RP.

PVP, I like it because it gives a clear enemy, they put Horde and Alliance on opposite sides for a reason, seems kind of silly to be on a carebear server because you're missing one of the main design points of the game. And I like being able to ruin someone's shit when they're questing.

Personally, I enjoy playing on PvP servers. However, my two level 60s are on PvE servers. My computer is about 4 years old... not nearly enough RAM, etc. So I can be running across a zone and people will have killed me before I've even loaded them up and know that they're there. If I had a decent computer I would play PvP more, as it is I've just got a level 49 druid and a 42 warrior.
I have done RP and RP-PvP servers and haven't found a whole lot of difference between them and normal servers. The thing about RP to me is... and I come from a heavy RP background... when I want to chill and relax from a day of work or whatever, I don't want to switch to acting mode, I just want to kill shit and talk to my friends, so I don't go out and seek RP, so I don't run into much of it.

I play on RP-PVP. I like the role-playing aspect of the game (it is an MMORPG after all) and that is one of the main things I do. However, the Alliance vs Horde aspect is a big part of the game and it just isn't there (OK, not there as much) on the PVE servers. RP-PVP is the way to go for me.

I played on a PvP server for a month when raids weren't going on (horde, my normal chars are alliance). I had a great time, however on my main (who's uber equipped), I just can't pull myself together, I hate dueling, I hate the battlegrounds. Yet I loved it on my horde char.
Maybe it was just my classes (Undead Mage -- Night Elf Hunter).
Is there a specific classes you guys like to PvP with and wouldn't dare do so with others?

I prefer RP The problems I have with PVP is the ganking, it pisses me off, and PVE and PVP servers tend to have a lot more inmature players. Sure you get those on all servers but they tend to not handle RP well. I have characters on all the diffrent types, but enjoy the Rp a lot better. And if I happen to feel like PVP i go into BG, that's really where it belongs for me.
