Phat Loot Phriday: Cruel Barb

Since pretty much all of our phat loot so far has been crazy awesome endgame stuff, I thought it might be nice to take a look at some lower level lewts. And so here's this, a dual sword twink's favorite weapon.
Name: Cruel Barb
Type: Rare One-Hand Sword
Damage, Speed: 30-57, 2.80 (15.5 DPS)
Abilities:
- On Equip: +12 Attack Power
- Usable at level 19, this sword is a no brainer for WSG twinks. It's not the only weapon you could choose to equip your overpowered lowbie with, but with a respectable drop rate, a nice attack power bonus, and the ability to dual wield them for a double bonus, it's an easy choice for any melee class.
Auction Price: Would probably be high if you could actually put it on the AH. But instead you'll have to settle for 29s 64c to a vendor-- or just go ahead and DE it. After all, how else are you going to be able to do that +15 agility enchant on both your weapons?

I remember running VC with my Priest, a couple other clothies, a warrior and a rogue. About halfway through, the Rogue mentioned that he'd have to roll need on the Cruel Barb because he needed it to finish a quest. The rest of the group had a bit of a chat via PM, looked it up on Thott and found that no such quest exists, called the Rogue on it and watched as he dug himself a bigger hole, swearing blind that the quest was real. He just wasn't prepared to ask politely for the Barb, which given his class we would gladly have given him. In the end we uninvited him and a Hunter finished the instance with us.
Guess what dropped off VC?

Not to be too much of a statistics geek, but you wouldn't have to be really unlucky to not see it in eight runs, with a 13% droprate. The chance of not seeing it in n runs is (1-0.13)^n, which for n=8 works out to about 33%, i.e. you only have a two out of three chance of getting it within eight runs (assuming the 13% droprate is correct). It takes quite a few runs for the chance of not finding it to get really low. For instance, the chance of not finding it in any of 20 runs is still 6.2%--not high, but not super-unlikely either.

Actually...I have a 19 twink rogue (name withheld to protect the innocent) and while this is a nice weapon, I much prefer the Assassin Blade/Cruel Barb combo as opposed to dual Barbs, depending on your talents. With that setup you have the option of Ambushing and Backstabbing for huge numbers. And after you hit "revered" (you are a twink after all) the Assassin's Blade/Scout's Blade is pretty nice too. My 2 cents.
