Breakfast Topic: Burning Crusade Launch...Smooth or Disaster?
The Burning Crusade is right around the corner. We could have it in our hands in a matter of weeks, not months. When we finally do get to play the expansion, will we be able to play it at all?
I worry that the game could be unplayable for a week or more. I see in the forums people planning to take a vacation week on release, but I see that as a week vacation taken in vain. If the past is any indication, the servers will be laggy and overwhelmed, and the game will be borderline unplayable. Blizzard's history with stability after launching major patches is hit-or-miss, and this is one MAJOR patch. Also, a lot of folks who stopped playing or are only playing sporadically now will be back in full force, adding further strain to the servers.
So, what do you think? Any chance the launch will be incredibly smooth and we all have a great time? Is my prediction way off base?

Am I missing something? Firstly, there must be a limit on the number of players that can be in a server at one time. Otherwise, there would never be a queue to get into the game. So there cannot be anymore people on a server then as now. Ok. There will probably be really long queues, at times.
Secondly, server lag seems to come from a lot of players congregating in one area. Like IF. And the gates opening. Isn't access to Outland going to be limited to level 60 and above? Limiting the number of players on a server that can go there.
Other than really long queues to get into the game, I don't see a problem.

Actually, my major worry isn't necessarily server stability, login queues, or a flury of hot-fix downtimes and random patches. Though all of that will likely happen.
It's the User Interface mods.
Think of all the new stuff that will be included in BC, from newer stats (resilence, etc.), new recipes, ZOMG.
Most of my UI mods will likely be completely and totally broken the day TBC comes out, and ...because the modders can't test their mods unless they are in beta...it could be days or even weeks before the main and most used mods are working again.
Ugh, it's going to be a nightmare.

Yes, there will be a big mess, with servers down or laggy, but... I'll still love the game, I'll stil play it and have patience with it.
An ppl soon will re-orient to low population servers to give a try until their base servers will be fixed and up again.
Until the official release... /emote hardly appeases the impatience
