Burning Crusade Arena PvP
The folks over at WoW Vault managed to get some information about the new Arena PvP in the Burning Crusade via Nethaera from Blizzard. Nethaera repeats some info we already know, and lets out a little bit of new stuff as well. While I am not a heavy PvPer by any means, these points caught my eye...- The Arena system will attempt to match people up by gear. This seems like a fabulous idea.
- Abilities, spells and items with cool downs longer than 15 minutes cannot be used while in the arena.
- You can't use consumables beyond bandages and conjured items while in the Arena.
- The rating system is explained. If you want a more careful explanation of how the rating system will work, check out Relmstein's article on the subject.

Hooo boy... Pallys who run WSG are not gonna like Lay on Hands being unavailable. I know that I have used it more than once as a last ditch effort to keep the flag carrier alive.
Other than that, I like the idea of matching PvP groups by gear.

As a druid I dont like the fact my rez cannot be used. or I cant use potions. They limit the fights way to much for my liking.

Matching groups based on gear raises the question: why have good gear? I know everyone hates being pwned by raiders in PVP, but this fix seems too naive to me. In addition, even if everyone has equal gear, you will still be beaten by better players and for must of us, that will be most of the time.

I think these rules are pretty good and cleverly made.. Think of groups which has more than one pally's. It would have been ridiculous. Also I kinda like the no potions, because it would stress the healer's importance in a battle. Match by gear is a pretty good idea as well..

Matching by gear is a no brainer. It's the same idea behind the level brackets. It just means that you will have an advantage over others with slightly lesser gear. The matchup are not going to be perfect, so there will be some wiggle room.

I think it's a great idea - no more twinks. Good riddance.

I should point out that the rules mentioned here are for the Arena PvP system thats coming in the expansion, and will not effect WSG, AB, AV or World PvP.
They may be add gear matching to the existing Battlegrounds, but that is not what this post is about.

fine with me, but in that case could druids have combat rez's cooldown downed to 15 minutes? :p

But it brings up this question...
What about people who decide to slap on blues as they enter combat? Does it measure the epics you have in your bags/bank? Read on...
My warrior has a ton of epics. 45 to be exact. But this counts Dark Iron gear and mostly my good tank outfit. Those sets are almost useless in hardcore high-damage PVP. So does the amount of tank gear I've obtained affect my battlegroups? If it does, will it affect as much as having a full "PVP" set?
Basically, I think they should weigh warriors with such things as full Wrath and tank gear as LESS geared than warriors with 30% chance to crit and 5K hitpoints...which can almost be achieved with blues. That's just my opinion.
Versus casters, at least, I hold the above to be true on most every occasion. You want to hit hard and harder....kill them before they have the chance to kill you. Vs other warriors, the tank gear might be better off. It's all relative, I'd say, which means that pairing up by gear will be very finicky.

to reply to 10, they could make it restricted, the gear your wearing when you sign up for the battle will be the gear you will be forced to wear in the arena. Not sure about trinkets and stuff because I have different trinkets depending on any class I fight, with some peopl its the same thing with gear, so I don't know how that will work. but they might just place a lock on your gear form the time you enter the battle, and thats what they will set you up with. Overall I like the idea because finely the PvP system will measure the best to get on top not just those with the most time.

From what i have read it doesn't match group on gear per se but instead matches by an arena rating which would simply mean that more often then not those with the better gear will be at the top fighting others near the top ranking wise
