Grand Marshal for...9 months?
I saw this thread on the WoW.com general forum. Apparently, there is a hunter on the Earthen Ring realm who has been Grand Marshal for at least NINE MONTHS. Assuming this to be some sort of gross exaggeration, I followed a link to a thread in the Earthen Ring realm forum, and sure enough...Longarms has been Grand Marshal for a very, very long time. Whether it has been 9 months or not is up for debate, but suffice to say he has been a Grand Marshal as long as people can remember. This takes an incredible amount of time and dedication. I don't think I know anyone who has reached Rank 14 in PvP who has bothered to defend their rank. Some people in the realm thread accuse him of having multiple people playing his account, others claim they have chatted with him and he is the nicest fellow in the world, some question his PvP skill set and a vocal group is annoyed that he has been clogging up the PvP ladder. The general consensus in the thread is that he is a retired guy who just really, really, really...I MEAN REALLY likes PvP.
I don't know the guy, and he wasn't online when I tried to seek him out this evening, but this is one of the more interesting things I have come across in WoW in a good while. Sure, it would be easy to hurl the insults his way, but I am much more interested in his rationale. It is one thing to be a total, 18 hour-a-day WoW addict. Those are a dime a dozen. It is something entirely different to do something that is so unusual it spawns massive threads.
I am shocked this is the first I have heard of this guy. I guess I just don't troll the forums nearly enough. What do you guys think? Anyone know this guy? Is there anyone else in WoW who can claim such a long Grand Marshal run?

On Daggerspine Kuroma, a level 60 Night Elf Druid has been Grand marshall for almost a year. I wish it were not the case, but it's true.

I'm on daggerspine too, and I don't know if it's a year, but I wouldn't doubt it in the least, Kuroma has been up there for absolutely forever...

I play on Earthen Ring and I am proud to say that I have killed Longarms at least once in Arathi Basin. Now that's what I call the thrill of victory. What's funnier is that when I read this entry title the first person I thought of was "Longarms". It's cool to see that Little Ol' Earthen Ring made it into the pages of WoW Insider history.
May my days be filled with more HKs of the celebrity that is Longarms!

i just dont get that. You made GM. You got all the awesome loot. Why continue? Let someone else get a chance at the booty. This is why I am so glad they are overhauling the PvP system. Hes not there because he kicks everyones butt. But becuase he invests the most time. Not taking anything from him. Congrats and all but seriously. Whats the big other than just being mean and not letting someone else get the chance.

I've seen Longarms on x-realm BGs. The most hilarious thing is, he was using Ice Barbed Spear instead of GM weapons. Also he was using the GM Bow instead of the Xbow or Gun which is vastly superior.
Is this supposed to be roleplaying or something?

I remember Longarms. I'm pretty sure I've seen him around since launch day 1. Heck, I even PVP'ed with him for a few backs back when it was a TM + SS zergfest. He certainly isn't epicced out (besides his PVP awards). I couldn't tell you if its been 9 consecutive months, but it certainly has been 9 months of peaceful longarms command.

Most servers have set honor farming teams. Once you reach rank 14, you are expected to de-rank or quit the grind. Many groups still let GMs group with them, to make it easier to win, but the GMs are still expected to de-rank so as to not hurt others climbing the chain. Anyone who didn;t respect this would be kicked from the group and have to pug. I am surprised that either the honor grinding groups allows him to continue with them or that he can maintain his honor pugging.

omg learn2raid. Pvp is fun, but endgame content is WHERE IT'S AT.

Perhaps Longarms is a retired General and just really misses being in command.
;-)

His gear does occasionally appear to be, hmm, less than adequate for someone of his rank. Shows how much time he puts into it considering he PUGs (i think)
Masons ring anyone?

Longarms has been GM on Earthen Ring since 06 Dec 2005. That's ten months, as of this Friday, for those of you keeping score at home. As for his equipment, who cares? This Ice Barb Spear and Bow work just fine for him and if you would do it differently, then you get GM and equip yourself however you want.
As for holding people back, that's just ridiculous. He's not holding anyone back and there's been like 15 GMs on Earthen Ring since he got it (and he was #5 on the server to get it).

Whatcha mean I wasn't on?? Blaspemy!

He may have been GM for 9 months...but he sucks. I've never had such an easy time pwning a GM at rank 8.
This just goes to show that Rank 14 is not necessarily about skill but simply time invested.
Same goes to a few HWL on my server (Thunderlord)
Elboz Nov 20th 2006 10:45PM
See terenas-US- ally Nodomino was the first GM on that server and he is GM still to this day.
that guy on earthen ring Nov 21st 2006 2:06AM
i play on earthen ring.. i've pvp'd along side longarms before.. a guildie of mine thats a pvp nut talked to him before and he told me that longarms wears the gear he does is because he doesn't want to be overpowered he wants to keep it fair. this much i know the man loves pvp like a fat kid loves cake.
headline Nov 27th 2006 3:33AM
"How do you kill he that has no life?"
Watch Southpark ep. 1008 (season 10, episode 8).
LOL
Emirah Dec 5th 2006 2:23AM
every time i've fought longarms he's been wearing the rank 13 set...so idk what he's talking about when he says he "wears the gear he does is because he doesn't want to be overpowered he wants to keep it fair."
The man simply sucks at being a hunter. All I ever have to do is stay in his dead-zone where he can't shoot me and he'll basically try to run away from me to get into range to get a shot off....not a real hard fight to figure out.
