TCG in-game rewards revealed (finally!)
If, like me, you've been waiting for the WoW collectible card game to finally justify its existence, wait no longer. From the beginning, Blizzard and cardmakers Upper Deck have promised that cards in packs would give in-game rewards, and today they revealed the deets.- Special "Loot" versions of cards will have scratch offs that reveal codes to be redeemed in-game.
- The "Loot" version of someone named Landro Longshot (the lore of this escapes me, if you know it, speak up) will grant a unique in-game tabard.
- A card that shows a Thundering Hippogryph will grant a new non combat pet-- awesome!
- And then there's the one you really want: the loot version of "Saltwater Snapjaw" will grant players their very own big-eyed turtle mount. That's right, the rumors were true. If you find this card, you can ride around on the back of a freaking turtle (Upper Deck is quick to point out that it goes regular speed, even though it's a turtle). Also, the mount is usable by players of all levels, which means you can finally ride out to Hogger. Because of that, I'd assume it's a 60% mount, not 100%, but they don't say specifically.
- Every card pack will have a card that gives "UDE Points," which you can use to redeem for other cards or in-game items in an online system. Two trinkets are first up in this system: a trinket that puts on a fireworks display, and another that changes you into an ogre mage.
- Finally, apparently there will be three loot rewards with every series of cards that Upper Deck releases-- the first series, Heroes of Azeroth, is due this month, and the second one, called Onyxia's Lair, is scheduled for November.

O.O
makes me want to immeadiatly invest in thousands of dollars worth of cheap cardboard...
Turtles ftw!

You sure the turtle moves at mount speed? The link specifically says it moves at "normal running speed". To me this suggests that it isn't a mount, but a different way of walking somewhere.
Kyle Oct 3rd 2006 3:01AM
Like Ghost says, I think it's just a stylized way of walking.
Anyway, yay for another drain on my wallet! Must have some of those...

Yeah, I'm thinking that if any level can use it, it will not be the 60% increase like a normal mount. I can already see the whining posts if it was like a regular mount.

It is stated that the turtle mount moves at normal running speed (100% not 160%). Hence the ability to use it at level 1.
What I want to know is whether or not you can reuse these on the same account, much like how I can obtain a collector's edition pet for each one of my characters. If not, I'm going to have a hard time picking an alt to be the recipient. (Honestly, it will probably go to the wife if I ever got lucky enough to find a turtle card.)

Rest assured, there will be whining on the WoW forums no matter how fast the turtle actually moves.

The turtle moves!

I don't like the precedent this kind of marketing ploy sets. It's greed plain and simple, and nothing more than an enticement to try and get people to buy the cards. From what I have read, the rewards are mostly of the cosmetic variety, but if something with actual benefits is introduced... I'm not in support of it at all.
This is the very reason I avoid games like Second Life or There (that and the fact that the premise behind them sucks).
Also, the giant turtle mount just seems plain silly... not funny or humorous, but just goofy (not in a good way).

I MUST HAVE IT!!

I agree with Threadrick's thinking on this. On the flip side however, I quite like seeing 'rare' items in the game. I just worry this is the beginning of an attempt to cash in on a rather 'captive' audience.
I can see tham having 'lucky codes' on the ticket stubs when the WoW film actually opens that entitles the code bearer a chance to win a pair of int boosting underpants ingame!
Fear my pants!

The turtle would be cool and so would the ogre suit. Im not buying any TCG for them though

I find it good how they have made most of the in game rewards for cards just 'looking atty things'. This way if you don't want to buy the cards you don't have too and wont miss out on anything important or some 1337 uber gear.
I had something else I was going to say but erm.....it went *poof* from my head.

Doesn't this make anyone disgusted with Blizzard?

110 rares, 22 epis, 1 legendary at rare rarity, 1 legendary at epic rarity, 1 legendary at double epic rarity.
That's a 491 card cycle, of which 4 will be Landro, 2 Hippogrpyh and 1 Turtle Legendary.
1:123 chance of Landro in a pack
1:246 chance of Hippogryph in a pack
1:491 chance of Turtle in a pack
