Whether you think new realms are sorely needed or you think they are doing nothing but contributing to the already dire population numbers on some servers, you'll be interested to know that Blizzard is bringing some new servers online today. You can have a fresh start on any of the following...- Echo Isles PVE
- Blackwater Raiders RP
- Vashj PVP

Pros and theorys:
My guess is they are preparing for the wave of new players comming next exp pack release.
I believe that they may do some big advertising event for that month and a huge slew of new players may come aboard.
So this may prevent loaded servers from being hit.
Negative viewpoint:
I truely think its stupid. We have realms with very low population that need or want more players. So they open new servers? What the hell for? We have realms needing players. Like "hakar" is low pop. I transfered there from daggerspine hoping it would grow.
I have yet to see it even spruce up yet.
My hopes: That they revamp the realm joining system. Adopt the realm invite system for heavy to full populations for example like FFXI: A player on that server can buy a server passcode to have friends join that server. SO keeping friends together yet keeping newbies from crowding up an already crowded server.
I hope they put in more incentives for joining lack of population servers in place. Like rest xp rewards that can be used like a consumeable or something.
In closing: I say "Blizz you are stupid". I think ignoring the lower population servers and opening new is just dumb. If we had most realms full or heavy I would understand this, but this isn't the case.

It's something psychological, warforge!
To begin a new character on a new server is really different to begin a new on an "old" server. Esp. the first server have an huge amount of "satisfied" players, with t3 and so on.
Especially new players will have big troubles to find guilds and to survive (pvp server!) when facing a well equipped enemy. At servers with young players the communication is better, instances like ubrs or mc are pretty challenging for the first months.
