Some WoW players are incredible dorks? I never noticed.
The guys at 1up.com are linking to a Wikipedia article where World of Warcraft fanatics are taking apart the infamous WoW South Park episode bit by bit to point out any inaccuracies. Don't these people know they sound exactly like the Comic Book Guy and should give it a rest? Apparently not. The show was fun to watch, and I get that there were some oddball, not-quite-faithful Warcraft moments in the episode, but beyond a quick mention, is it really worth keeping track of all of them? I guess this is amusing for some people, but I tend to put this kind of obsessive nerd behavior in the same category as the guy who paints himself in his team colors or the dude who learns Klingon. I am a super-huge geek, no doubt, but this kind of stuff crosses my limit of what is worth caring about. But hey, to each his own.
What do you guys think? Way too obsessive, or just some people having fun?

Gimme a BREAK! Um, I didn't realize that South Park satires were now a held to the same standards as a documentary.
These must be the same folks that believe if you're a drood, you MUST be resto; if you're a priest you MUST be holy (and female), [insert typical WoW expectation here], etc., etc.

Picking out inaccuracies and bloopers is a pretty common passtime, been around as long as entertainment media itself. Pointing them out or making lists is quite different from getting irate and demanding accuracy. And by the way, you did just write a blog entry ABOUT someone pointing out inaccuracies in this episode; where does that put you? This puts you at the level worthy of an entirely new term - meta-geekery. Geekery about the very subject of BEING a geek. I suppose that puts this comment in the realm of meta-meta-geekery, but I think we'll stop there.

lol.
Funniest comment I have read in a while.
If the darn star system was working I'd give you three. Or make you comment of the month. Or something. Very funny.

>What do you guys think? Way too obsessive, or just some people having fun?
simple and you can apply that to EVERY thing :
- when the person can still have a normal happy social life it's just fun :)
- when the person cannot have a happy life and isolate himself from everyone it is an obsession :(
---
yes, fun, you are looking for errors and mistakes, you count them , you can play at that game with a pal : who is finding the more faults ? for every fault found, you drink a beer, it's fun ! :)
but it's obsessive if the person become sad, angry, annoying with all others people and is isolated because he/she can only speak about the errors and it is unholy to betray the scripture.. hum Warcraft History ! (no fun at all here)
---
I just love the meta-geekerie comment :)

"Says the guy blogging about a video game" was the first thing that came to mind reading this. Heh heh ^_^ But, I really do agree with you. It's like they can't see the forest for the trees; so focused on WoW they can't step back and get the joke.
Sad really.

I think it's great. I love reading trivia about things I have some familiarity with. I noticed a few things about the episode, where it either fit, or didn't fit exactly, with what I'm familiar with in WoW. Reading about all the other, smaller, or more subtle details that I missed or wasn't familiar with, I think is just fascinating. I think it's great to detail those, when you notice them, and to have them available to read for others who didn't.
Unfortunately, all the folks editing the Wikipedia article can't seem to come to a reasonable agreement on it all, and it's mostly deleted (at least, when I looked at it just now). Personally, I don't know what the real problem is, and I'm just disappointed that we can't just put the trivia up there for folks to read and enjoy. Stripping out Wikipedia articles FTL. :(
