Burning Crusade talent updates
Just three small updates, but I think they're worth a mention. And Eyonix says to check back "soon" for more updates, so we may see more interesting changes before the day is out... However, for the time being, we have a new rank of Aimed Shot for the hunters, and increased crit benefit from the Druid's Leader of the Pack and Moonkin form. (Interestingly, the talents still talk about a crit percentage, when widely leaked information suggests that such bonuses have been changed to a scaling crit rating -- perhaps this implies that talents provide a flat crit bonus for players of all levels?)- (Hunter) Aimed Shot - Rank 7 not listed, 370 mana, 870 damage.
- (Druid) Leader of the Pack - Increases crit % by 5, increased from 3.
- (Druid) Moonkin Form - Increases spell crit % by 5, increased from 3.

It makes sense that talents provide a flat % bonus, because the whole purpose of the ratings is so that the items that use them will scale correctly as people level up. If the gear kept +% bonuses, by level 70 some players would manage >50% crit, which is obviously overpowered. Since talents are "permanent", it makes no sense to put ratings on them. They scale well already.

No it doesn't make sense.
I mean.. given that the equipment now wouldn't change.
A lvl 70 char would still have 35% crit if he would be running around with the same gear having 35% crit at 60 .. i mean.. ok more agi . but let's say we're talking about a caster.
maybe someone can explain what "scaling" means in a particular way? So I can use my (then) crappy T3 stuff at lvl 70 because the stats are scaling up with my level? no need to run to auction houses all over again?

I believe they mean scaling down. In the same way that AGI provides less crit at higher levels so will +crit provide less crit at higher levels. So while your T3 may give +10% (I dunno, guessing here) at level 60, at 70 it might only give 5% for example.
The offshot is that,in theory, you're less likely to be able to hit 100% crit at some point in the future so items/talents that proc off crits won't become rediculous.
So obviously having talents as a static % makes sense as otherwise they would get worse as you level up rather than comparatively more cost effective.

No, things like crit will scale down as you level up, thus requiring you to need new armor.
It already somewhat works like this. A little agility goes a long way at low levels, where as you need a ton at high levels to have the same crit/dodge amounts.
Thats why the twinks with the agility enchants rip through everyone.

I think they're wanting current top-level crit gear to *not* scale. If they leave the current gear as it is, what happens when you get to level 70 and still only get +1% or +2% crit gear? There's no improvement.
With the new crit rating system, a +24 to your crit rating is more valuable at 60 than at 70, allowing them to put out higher + to crit rating gear on higher-level gear without actually increasing your crit %. In fact, to *maintain* your crit % as you level you'll *need* higher crit rating gear. Talents get exempted because once you have them you don't need to upgrade them like you do gear.
Frankly it makes plus to crit % talents much more valuable.
