WoW Blog Roundup
In addition to Burning Crusade previews, the WoW community has been busy with some other interesting takes on WoW...- Runned at NotAddicited has come up with a rather funny post dealing initially with role players and then moving onto nerds as a whole. I really enjoyed it. (some adult language is present in most NotAddicted fare)
- Tobold breaks down the much discussed 5000g epic flying mount with a take on the real cost of the mount. And he contends it is far in excess of 5000g.
- How about all those Warcraft competitors coming out next year? Are any going to topple WoW as the king of the hill? Lauren at Mystic Worlds thinks the longer they wait to release their products, the harder it is going to be.
- Finally, Relmstein is getting a little warm-up for arena PvP.

a few comments on the price of the epic flying mounts:
1. back in the days of yore, the 900g for the regular epic mount was a substantial grind. it took me nearly 3 months after hitting 60 to get there and in in the end i got very lucky (i had a dwarven hand cannon drop when i was at 800g -- paid for my mount, a friends and 1/3 of the mount we wound up gifting our guildleader). if you go by the 'it's gonna be a long hard grind' metaphor, i think most everyone will find the 5k pricetag is actually fairly in tune with what has come before.
HOWEVER...
2. to me, an epic 'land' mount is a pretty invalueable tool, especially if you have a gathering profession. so far, i have seen not a single solitary thing in beta (i'm up to lvl 64 atm) that suggests you'll be able to cavort around the clouds and mine, grab herbs, etc. in the end, the flying mounts are pretty much to simply get up to the great dungeons in the sky. to that end (imo) the epic flying mounts are pretty much just a matter of epeen gratification. most people will propably be off just fine witht he regular flying mounts (both of which you get at lvl 70, so no one in beta has them as of yet -- again, i'm just expressing some personal opinions on the matter.)
3. lastly, there is the matter of gold itself. i'm not hurting for gold, but in grinding away 4.5 levels so far, i've made about 600g. i've turned in quests that yield 11200xp AND 10.5g. greys can sell for 4g. greens are inching towards 10g a pop. considering all the changes in enchanting meens you pretty much either AH or vendor most crap now, the influx of gold could be far more substantial. blizz isn't just upping the 'mount club' price and leaving the tools that fuel the economy at the same state they are currently -- they are ramping up the output of gold that (again, imo) is in lockstep with the increased finacial demands of the expansion.
so, in conclusion -- hey, don't panic. chances are, flying mounts will be pretty easy to get with just basic leveling. even if you ogtta pick the 'average joe' flavor for awhile until the 'epeen compensation device' version becomes more viable to you.
(btw: wildhammer faction -- never too late to maybe think about grinding it a little...)
