New Pet type in the Burning Crusade
I knew it. Hunters have nothing to worry about, come the expansion. Karlik of Proudmoore (EU) dropped us this screenshot of a new pet he found wandering around Outland-- it's called "Bug," but looks pretty "alien-y" (yes, that's a technical term). Click on the pic to see the full shot.And if you think it looks cool, wait until you hear the stats on it. The words are in German, but as you can probably tell just from context, you're looking at a hunter pet that breaks 6k in armor, and has 124 dps. And that's untrained (that's what "Rebellisch" means), so it only goes up from there. That ain't no plainstrider, let me tell you.
Now, of course in the expansion everything will be bigger, better, and faster, so while this pet currently matches up to, say, a blue-geared endgame druid, it won't seem quite so sweet after we've had a long look at all the new stat levels. Then again, this is one of the first pets you can get in Outland (Karlik's shot shows he's still at 60, and he trained it), so things only get better from here. I'm still standing by my skepticism on those leaked pet abilities (although I wouldn't put it past Blizzard to give something like this Bug a mana drain of some kind), but I also think that in terms of new pets and their strengths, hunters are going to get some really, really nice love when the Dark Portal opens.
[ Thanks, Karlik! ]
Update: A few people in the comments (thanks, guys!) have pointed out that Petopia says this "Bug" may be, in fact, just that-- a bug, not meant to be tamed. Only one type of the "spore bat" can be tamed, and it can't even currently learn Growl. A shame, but just like all things BC, we'll have to see what happens.

It's a sporebat. I can't wait to tame one myself, though some think that perhaps they won't be available, as, evidently, they can't be trained anything. However, that's most likely a bug (I hope so, anyway).

I did not know that "gesundheit" meant health. I just thought it was something you said to a person who sneezed.

Well, after a simple Google Translate, I can tell you that 'Treuestufe' means 'Loyalty stage'. And 'Rebellisch' means 'Rebellious'.

I'm just hoping that the bug is that it is untrainable and not that it was never meant to be a pet in the first place.
So far the only other new creature type are Dragonhawks.
I have a question as primarily a warlock with an alt hunter when it comes to pets and the expansion. This is probably wishful thinking, but I'm hoping that flying pets (and the warlock's succubus) will actually be able to fly when we hit 70 and can follow us when we take to the skies in Outland.
Also, wasn't there a blue post awhile back about changing the way we obtain pet skills in lieu of giving us more stable slots?

according to petopia, this is a sporebat http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/ and just as Kyle has said it might not be a tamable pet in the x-pac.
This is what Petopia says "All spore bats except the Young Spore Bat are untamable. This, plus the fact that this pet can't even learn Growl, may indicate that it is not intended to be a new pet family.".

Let some german guy translate it, shall we?
From top to buttom the german words:
Schnitzel = most known german meat since Jerry Lewis :)
Rebellisch = "untrained", rebellious/mutinous
Stärke = strength
Beweglichkeit = agility
Ausdauer = stamina
Intelligenz = intelligence
Willenskraft = spirit
Waffenfertikeit = weaponskill (though I don't remember seeing that on my pet in my english wow version)
Kraft = means in german the same as strength does, but has to be attackpower
Schaden = damage
Verteidigung = defense
Rüstung = armor
Nahkampfangriffskraft = close range combat strength
Charakter = character
Begleiter = pet
Ruf = reputation
Fertigkeiten = skills
pvp = pvp
schließen = close
kontrolliert = controlled
Hope it helps.

I am Karlik who posted that image. The "Bug" is one of a kind, ie. only one of them looks that white, the rest have textures. I dont know if thats a bug on this one or by design, but it looks cooler from my point of view. Its good to pose, many people ask me where I got that pet from :)
Well, the pet doesnt learn anything currently (not even Growl) if they are still untrained, so I will check if that one will be able to learn anything if its on the next level.

Those leaked Hunter Pet abilities have been debunked by Kalgan. :)

Speaking of the pet's damage ... also notice that you could feed it a little more, and get another 25% more damage out of it.
