Felguard in action
Warlocks have been complaining about the usefulness of the current high-level pets since...well...as long as I can remember. And they are correct, as the usefulness of any pet beyond the felhunter is limited. However, with the proper spec, a warlock will be able to summon a felguard in the expansion, and it looks like the felguard might actually cross into the realm of usefulness. However, as the video asks, is he 41 points of usefulness? I am not entirely sure. I liked how the Felguard held aggro during the fight towards the middle of the video, but the warlock wasn't tossing any DPS on the mobs. That said, I'd be interested in seeing how a Felguard would hold aggro with a warlock unloading on the mob. Better than a Voidwalker? Anyone from the beta care to shed some light on this?

I think the amazing thing about this is the solo-ing power of the Felguard. A level 60 pet essentially soloed a 62 melee mob. I've seen 60 druids that can't even solo a 62 mob. :p

Hum.. i never played a warlock but... somehow it all sounds like hunter? got a pet doing your job/assisting you. what is the meaning of the class btw? no offense, i really don't understand.

From what I've heard - at the moment it's better at holding aggro than the Voidwalker. This might be tweaked and/or changed later though.

It's better at holding aggro than a voidwalker, but it has way less armor and way less HP than a voidwalker.

This video shows a little better how well the felguard can hold aggro

I know that doing that with a voidwalker will pull aggro quite fast (hell I pull aggro off my voidwalker with just dots)
This next video is of pvp with the felguard and some tips to using it.

Does anybody know what UI mods the warlock is using in that video? I liked how all actions he took and status effects scrolled up the screen, and also how it showed the cast time for all enemy spells. Both of those things would be pretty helpful on my rogue.
If anybody knows which ones he has, I'd appreciate it.

The felguard is all nice and good, but here's the REAL question I got from watching that video: Does Burning Crusade's UI enhancements include some kind of enemy cast bar? It appears right under the bad guys unit frame.. see it? see it? Awesome.

blondie ftw
Mordiceius Oct 19th 2006 9:34AM
Yes, there is an enemy cast bar.

That video doesn't really show any kind of aggro-holding ability for the felguard. The warlock just stood there like a hood ornament -- No warlock plays like that, where are your DoTs? Where are your Bolts? He used his wand a few times and he transferred health, big whoop -- those things don't usually pull aggro anyway.
Big question: what's the felguard's sacrifice ability? The one thing that I love about the VW is the non-interruptible shield from his sacrifice ability. When the going gets rough, I can juggle my VWs just by sacrificing him and conjure up another one. Depending on you mana level, you can conjure several VWs in a single fight to outlast your foes.

I am in the beta and I have played around with the felguard a bit (gonna do more tongiht) and I have to say he is pretty cool. But, like alot of other people, I'm not sure if he is 41 points of good. With the new pet scaling (which is HOT btw) my felguard had about 4400hp. But he was having trouble keeping aggro off me. I was using curse of agony and corruption, and if even wanding I would pull aggro, no shadow bolts for me. Granted, I am sitting at around 560 spell damage, so my dots hit pretty hard. I will have to see if he can hold aggro against a shadow bolt barrage with no dots, but I'm pretty doubtful he can.

Not 41 points of interesting?! It's a pet warrior! Complete with fancy charge and everything.
/hate warlocks even more.

I like how everyone just ignored that the felgaurd had an arcanite reaper and a nice looking cleave... seems locks just got a pet warrior

The Felguard's sacrifice on WorldofWarcraft.com's talent tree looks awesome. And as far as holding aggro, take a look at some of the new talents for the lock. There's a talent for both sides of the tree, affliction and destruction, that help reduce threat. I personally think the Felguard is gonna be hawt!
