Around Azeroth: The Master's Glaive

Darkshore is a fascinating zone, all looming trees and shadowy greys. But since it's the far-off lowbie zone for the Night Elves -- and many Night Elves will run off towards the more centralized Dwarf or Human starting zones -- I think many people miss the zone entirely. And so they end up missing a ton of great scenery like this -- the mysterious Master's Glaive, sent in by reader Matt.
So do you have a unique shot of Azeroth that you'd like to show off to the rest of the world? Tell us about it by e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com! You can attach a picture file or send us a link to one -- and don't worry about formatting, we'll take care of that part.
[Update: One day I will stop confusing "Darkshire" and "Darkshore." Maybe.]

This is one of the best zones in the whole game IMO.

It's Darkshore actually :P And yeah, lots of cool quests. Way more interesting then Westfall.

Actually Jay,
The town is Darkshire and the zone is Duskwood.
Elodren Oct 21st 2006 3:33PM
Actually redux, Jay is right. The master's glaive is in Darshore on the continent of Kalimdor! Sorry!

I didn't really enjoy Darkshore at all.
It had some really irritating quests and even more irritating mobs, I have a lifelong hatred of Murlocs.
Soloing the murlocs to get the fossil remains along the beach was so frustrating especially at the level you were expected to do it at.
The only good thing i got out of Darkshore was Stranglekelp. I made my first gold selling it at the height of the war effort.

I dislike darkshore, reason? It is so damn long and one is sent from one end to another all the time. Other than that, it is a really good zone with interesting quests for a new player.

Although it has its headaches, I feel Darkshore was infinitely more action-pakced of a zone than any other similar-leveled area in the game.
Cheers to the murky foliage, yet mystical feel that is Darkshore.

Darkshore...I have mixed feelings about the area.
I kind of like walking along the beach, but all the gray and brown and gray and grayish-green makes it seem so...dull.
I didn't have any real problems leveling there (aside from the occasional nightsaber stuck in a tree), though I don't have any desire to return.
(Also, a follow-up quest about that red crystal in the hills would've been nice)

Grilden:
Don't worry, we have Murlocs at Eastern Kingdoms as well. :P

The Master's Glaive is supposed to be the grave of a defeated Old God. http://www.wowwiki.com/Old_Gods says so! :)
Darkshore's great, I take all my alliance characters there. It wins over Westfall and Loch Modan in sheer atmosphere. Both Westfall and Loch Modan are very well "colonised" places, but Darkshore feels like an adventure onto a new continent - which it is! - and you can't beat looking at the map and seeing the infamous Felwood just at the top of those imposing cliffs... Darkshore feels like the first steps into a mysterious new world.
I also think the quests are more engaging and interesting.

I hate it as well. I avoid it as soon as I reach lvl 10 in Teldrassil. The quests are so far apart and a lot (and I mean a lot compared to the Human and Dwarf/10-20 zones) of walking involved. Want an example? Go do the Tower of Althalaxx quest chain =P

I was disappointed by the minimal quests around Masters Glave. I agree that it is a great looking site, but there is no real narrative around it. I share your perspective though, that Darkshore is overlooked. I toured it as a Gnome Mage (10-19) because I was a little tired of the Eastern Kingdom quests. There are a lot of great missions and stories there, but nothing that tops my favorite quest chain, protecting the dam in Loch Modan.

I liked darkshore as well. I first encountered the place as horde. Back in open beta.
It was different from almost any zone i had been to at that point. I just got finished doing some quest at splinter tree and i decided to follow the road west just to see where it lead to.
Dark(especially since my gama was turned down), erie and gloomy. The landcape, the waterfalls, the creatures (the first time i saw a banshee)...where completely different then the savana-like barrens where i spent most of my time leveling. When I saw the glaive i thought it was the coolest thing ever. Short of the first time I saw Orgimar's walls. I stealthed around the place hoping there was something to it...but found nothing.
Continued on to Auberdine. After the 4th death from the guards while trying to get on the boat(that i later found out lead to Darnassus) I just gated back to the cross roads. Was a short lived trip. But back then when the game was brand new, it was an actual adventure.
Side note, level up in the barrens if you really want know what running around is. The quests in darkshore are cake.

I love Darkshore for two reasons:
1) The mood and setting reminds me a lot of the Pacific Northwest, especially on the coastal areas of the peninsula. And then when it rains even more so. Very beautiful place and very sad at the same time.
2) Darnassus rep. As soon as my gnome rogue was lvl 10 I sent her over there to get that rep at a faster rate. Nothing like having a gnome on a kitty instead of a chicken lol
