Phat Loot Phriday: Linken's Boomerang

There are all kind of cultural and gaming references within this huge world we play in. But for a lot of players (especially us old school Nintendo gamers), this quest line this reward comes from is definitely one of the best. (No, the screenshot above is not from World of Warcraft, but seeing as this is a trinket, I figured that would be more interesting then a stats screen.)
Name: Linken's Boomerang
Type: Rare Trinket
Damage / Speed: 113-187 / NA
Abilities:
- Flings a magical boomerang at an enemy, damaging them and giving a chance to stun or disarm them.
- Remarkably powerful with the disarm proc-- some people say it can even be used against bosses, and there's rumor that even Rag can lose his hammer when hit with this thing.
- And of course, this is a special item for Pallies, because the ranged attack makes this the only ranged ability they have at all. It's not much, but it's all they got.
Because if you haven't guessed by now, the Linken quests are basically a huge homage to the old Legend of Zelda Nintendo games. The first quests are called "It's a Secret to Everybody"-- a phrase the old man told Link (Zelda's main character) in the first game. Later quests are called "It's Dangerous to Go Alone"-- another reference to the old man's wisdom. Aquementas was a villian in the old game, and also makes a "cameo" (if you can even call it that) in Azeroth. The other quest reward Linken gives when you finally finish the chain (you'll eventually have to defeat Blazerunner on Fire Plume Ridge in Un'goro after debuffing him with a special item), is Linken's Sword of Mastery, which is very close to Link's Master Sword. And then there's this little trinket, a nice bonus for Pallies everywhere, and just another reminder of the care that Blizzard has taken in filling this game with culture, art, and wit.
Getting Rid of It: BOP, 62s 3c to a vendor. Disenchants into Illusion Dust and or Greater Eternal Essence, with a small chance of a Large Brilliant Shard.

no , only ranged spell is to use judgment or spec holy and get a 31 talant
and the trinket has a better range than both

Hehe I once killed a mage in AV with...good times...

This and the "Are We There, Yeti?" chain are my favorites. Anything that sends me to Un'Goro is going to be a good time.

What about hammer of gg (wrath)? Yes, you have to whittle your opponent's hp down before it becomes available, but it is still a ranged attack.
With hammer of justice, holy shock, judgement of righteousness, holy wrath, and exorcism, I'd say that the pally has plenty of ranged ability, albeit situational.
Linken's Boomerang is still a fun trinket for any class. I was quite dissapointed in Linken's Sword of Mastery though. It looks quite nice and is one of the bigger one-handers in the game but its stats are lacking especially so late in the game when it becomes available.

Ah, cheers 2 and 5! Makes you respect pallys a little more when you know they have to juggle cooldowns, ranges, specs, trinkets and other random situations like the rest of us (at least in PvP, otherwise it's healadin FTW).
Although, I did see one bubble hearth the other day!
Actually, *I* can bubble hearth now, I can use the defilers trinket, and if the mob is kinda crappy (or it's a prot warr) then I can hearth before taking damage! It's hilarious!

As a pally, I absolutely love this boomerang. Not only does it gives us a useful ranged pulling device that can be used against all mobs (and not all pallies have holy shock), it's darn cool when you pull it out in a party and surprise everyone.

"It's a secret to everybody."
it's what the one enemy (goblin looking guy) says when he gives you rupees, not the old man.
ha, sorry, don't meant one of "those guys", but had to do it.

What's the cooldown on this trinket?
swiftlydead Oct 22nd 2006 3:36PM
i swear to god if I get chain stunned for 8 full seconds from a mere 2 pally spells cast in a row, im going to go apeshit.

Isn't this a tad bit um.....COPYRIGHT?

FYI:
The quest chain can be begun at lvl 47.
The cooldown on the trinket is roughly 2 1/2 minutes, if I recall correctly.
The Moblin (the name of the "the enemy" mentioned above) would only say "Grumble Grumble" until it was fed the meat, allowing you to pass. Phrases such as "Its a secret to everybody" "Master using it and you can have this" and "East most peninsula holds the key" are all quotes from the ever lovable Old Man (technically Old Men - he didnt get from cave to cave *that* fast)
This is far and beyond my favorite quest chain/trinket, and yes, as a paladin its the only option I have for pulling monsters that are not undead or demons (without going Holy spec). Its great for when you act as tank for a 5 man and you want the aggro on you instead of a secondary puller, but the cooldown time is a bit long, so youll only be using it every 3rd pull or so and have to body pull the other times.
Still, for a die hard Zelda fan, this quest chain is sure to give the warm tingly feeling we all save for Saturday morning cartoons and marshmallowed cereals.

I threw it at Rag. He still had his hammer :(
Then I killed a pally in Org with it :)

I'm sorry, but #8/alvinflummox wins this round.
As you blow holes in rocks and burn down trees, the old man will occasionally require you to pay him for the door repair charge, but it is the moblins (moblii? moblum?) who give you moneyz.

Pallys don't have the amount of ranged attacks like every other class.
HoJ- You literaly have to be right next to them to get it to work. Don't know how many times I have gotten the "I'm too far away" message while chasing after some Horde. Same thing with our 31 point 6 sec meditation skill that you get from the Ret tree.
HS- You have to put 31 points into the Holy tree and you get it. But by doing so you have effectivly made yourself a Healidin.
HoW- Only when they have 20% or less health
Exorcism/Holy Wrath- Against Undead and Demons only. Completely useless in PvP situations.
JoR? You are kidding, right? Like all of our Judgements and Seals you have to be right next to the guy to get them to work. And the damage isn't that great unless you judge them with SotC or have an insane amount of spell damage+ gear on.
You move out far enough and the only thing that we can do is cast HS and if they dont have that then we can just stare at ya and /wave.
At least with rogues and warriors you can shoot or throw and not have to spend 31 points in one tree in order to have that ability.
But now that I know about this quest I guess that it's time to take my 60 pally and backtrack for it. Sounds like something that I can use when my HS is on cooldown and the disarm ability would be very useful against warriors....

Well actually it isn't so....
