The forums are buzzing...
...as they tend to do with tons of new Burning Crusade stuff to talk about, in addition to the delay that seems to have some folks in a snit. - This thread asks an interesting question, that being will the Netherwelp pet from the Collector's Edition be available for all your characters or just the the newly created ones? I had thought all toons would get the pet, but Tseric being unsure whether that is the case makes me, um, unsure.
- Another Tseric reply states that tier 4 loot will be dropping in at least a couple of dungeons. I think I like this idea. It gives incentives to try other places, and maybe this will be the plan going forward. I know I am about as sick as sick can be of farming AQ40 and working through Naxx night after night. It would be nice to have some variety. But at the same time, having the Tier 2 pants on Ragnaros is kind of a pain isn't it? So maybe I hate this idea. Color me again unsure.
- How is that level 5 enchanting alt treating you? Is it a nice shard factory? Enjoy it while you can, as after the expansion hits, you will have to actually gain skill into the enchanting profession (and level to at least 35) if you wish to disenchant the higher level stuff. Tseric says items will have a minimum skill level to disenchant in the expansion. While this trick only works for BOE gear, I know a ton of people who use it, including me.
- And on the collectible card game front (which I know some of you just love), a fellow in the forums has acquired a turtle mount. Yes, it is a very slow mount, but it is also pretty darn cool. And you have to be level 20 to ride the thing, according to the original poster. I do not play card games, but I do collect baseball cards, so I might pick up a few packs for the heck of it. Maybe I can fill up yet another three ring binder with pieces of cardboard! And speaking of baseball, go Tigers! How about scoring a run tonight guys?

Blizz is starting to piss me off now. First I hear they are going to nerf low level spam healing and now this??
What possible harm are low level disenchanters doing? They can't enchant so there can't be imba there.
They can't be sending it to higher level twinks to use for enchants because THATS JUST STOOPID?
So, the only thing left is to hit the Auction House market. So is that it?? THey're spending all that time and effort to stop people making some money on AH and trying to limit the availability of essences??
Gratz Blizz, yet another knee jerk nerf bat reaction to all those whining about buffed twinks.
It is beyond belief hwo stupid Blizz can be. It doesn't take that much effort to level to 35th or 40th so the slow up in essence availability will not even be noticed. Jerks!

That would be fine by me, if that means I continue to get skill off the stuff I enchant past skill level 50.
I'm working on getting up to 300, and that extra few would help.

The whole disenchanting thing is kind of irritating. I'd love to see enchanters able to disenchant stuff in the no-trade window (although I can see some technical problems the was this currently works).
Swiftlydead Oct 25th 2006 12:48PM
They need to go ahead and make enchants have a minimum item level. +15 agil on a lvl 15 dagger is ridiculous and a blatant exploitation of someone having a lot of money that hurts legitimate lower level characters!
Down w/ laltwinkage. Sooner than the x-pac too, plz.
Samidare Oct 25th 2006 1:11PM
whatever...
most of the people who do twinkage are the high level raiders that are playing. if you want to eliminate them, you will probably end up with burnt out people. i mean with tbc being delayed most people at this time are turning to alts.
Now I doubt that once the xpac comes out people will be burned out and all. But thats a big part of the game, twinks. But anyways.. i have twinks, err alts that are mid level. Anyone hear what the level req would be for disenchanting high level items? I could at least level them up to keep my disenchant bots.

You mention things that put people in a 'snit', yet you have a picture of a paladin in Lightforge on the page and mention nothing of the uproar in the paladin forums.

The disenchanting thing is simply inconvenience, nothing more. Guildies email my rogue lockboxes to open. I will mail them BOEs to d/e.

It's a game. Blizz is perfectly entitled to change the rules if they feel something is not working correctly.

CARDS FTW

My feeling is having sets spread across multiple instances is a huge pain. While I understand the intent of not wanting people to focus on one instance, if they add it to single boss fights, such as Magtheridon (a fight similar to Onyxia), I will have issues with it. One of my problems with Onyxia was the loot was fairly easily gotten, so once you get the loot you want, there is little incentive to show up. For example, as a mage 3 items from Onyxia were of any interest to me (Netherwind Crown, Sapphiron Drape and Onyxia's head). And while yes, there is the desire to help others in getting their gear, for some that's not enough of an incentive. On the other hand, a multi-boss instance will give people incentive to come for loot for a long time, since many bosses drop upgrades for all classes.

The enchanters that are crying are pissing me off. DEAL WITH IT! A lowbie enchanter crying about not being able to DE lvl 60 epics is like a lvl 1 miner complaining about not being able to go out and mine thorium.
I support this change.
Ceej Oct 25th 2006 2:09PM
I don't see it as much of a big deal.
Enchanters have had a bit of a free ride anyhow, for the most part. Okay, DE'ables are a bit tougher to come by than skins, I will give you that. But apart from that they have had nearly no restrictions placed on them.
Almost all other professions require an accompanying one - skinning, mining, etc. Likewise herbalists cannot gather herbs of any level - they must skill up.
Leatherworkers need to get their craft to a certain level before they can convert light leather to medium, medium to heavy, etc.
Engineers and Blacksmiths need to get higher levels in mining before they can smelt higher level resources.
I just see this as bringing enchanting in line with the rest of the tradeskills. Just make a tailoring alt and send all the green tailored "skillup" items to your enchanter for DE. You'll be 200+ before you know it.
Seriously, this is not a hard game to play. Making things a little more challenging should not create such an uproar.
Chleo Oct 25th 2006 2:29PM
One of my guildies has a turtle mount too :)
bliSSter Oct 25th 2006 5:21PM
First, you're a seriously in need of a reality check (pun intended :P) if you think enchanting has some kind of "free ride". It's one of the single hardest professions to make money with and one of the most expensive to level up. This stated by a lvl 300 chanter with only a handful of the choice dropped formulas.
Second, Blizzard also needs a reality check if they're adding levels for disenchanting without addressing required levels on items that can be enchanted - thus placing some type of check in place for twinking. I don't mind twinking through gear, but the enchanting situation is retarded.
The change in required levels for disenchanting will make a sweet premium having a 225+ level enchanter running instances getting the higher end shards and essence that will be so much more rare. I'm all for it. But imposing one set of standards while ignoring another game imbalance is just...well, dumb. Not addressing minimum items levels for enchants is Blizzard outright saying they approve of twinking. Armor kits have a minimum item level. Hell, even enchanting items such as mana and wizard oil have an item level.
It's just a dangerous game, IMO.

Cool thing about the Disenchanting thing. Mats are gonna go up.
About DEing in the trade window, that is an interesting idea.
jkblue Oct 25th 2006 2:45PM
Thankfully this will indeed increase shard prices on the auction house. Just last night I watched in horror as a player sharded a blue from Sunken Temple to get one Small Brilliant Shard that was worth 50 silver on the Auction House. But the blue that he sharded was worth 3 and a half gold to a vendor!

"You mention things that put people in a 'snit', yet you have a picture of a paladin in Lightforge on the page and mention nothing of the uproar in the paladin forums."
There is a huge uproar among the non-beta players. Beta players, for the most part, knew paladins in the right gear were over powered. Although the "nerf" (it hasnt gone live yet so its not a nerf) was probably a bit too far. There will be lots more changes in both directions. I wish people would calm down about stuff they havent even see yet being changed.
As for the DE changes, it makes me sad, since I only use my enchanting to DE stuff, but I understand where they are coming from. Its not to stop alts, because as you say, its not hard to level to 35 and do it anyway. I think its most likely to account stealing bastards from DEing everything in everyones inventory, and stopping mains from dropping an easy gathering skill to DE thier stuff and level thier gathering skill back up. Not to mention DEing stuff adds no money to the economy, while selling stuff to the vendor does. So maybe they also want to put a bit more cash in the economy. I can think of several other reasons to require a higher enchanting skill as well.
Undying Oct 25th 2006 2:49PM
Hey, Disenchanting from trade window means we can give free enchant AND disenchant for free! Wouhou, I'm gonna be so rich with my enchanter!
I agree with Eaxa, the prices might go up in that case, and that is a good thing for the remaining disenchanters I guess...
jkblue Oct 25th 2006 2:52PM
Glad to see the change to Enchanting. This will hopefully make shards more valuable on the auction house. Just last night I watched in horror as a player sharded a blue from Sunken Temple that yielded a single Small Brilliant Shard. The shard sells for 50 silver on the auction house, but the blue he got it from sells to vendors for over 3 gold!
I wanted to slap him.

Instead, point him to Enchantrix ;)
